@dew12333 I mean that’s literally what she does and what her YouTube channel is about. Don’t get your jimmies rustled over it. What does that part of your comment even have to do with the article?
It’s awful that putting people out of work like this is considered perfectly normal and “necessary” by the industry. Hopefully the support involves helping the people who were laid off find new jobs that are kore stable (preferably at places that aren’t owned by a company partaking in crypto/blockchain/GenAI stuff)
Layoffs like this are one of the reasons why I’m just a hobbyist game dev. Really hoping all of the people working in it are able to find stable jobs that treat them like human beings.
@Zeebor15 Wikipedia says they’re owned by Forte Labs, which is apparently a company that also participates in blockchain and crypto nonsense. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was something that played a part in Phoenix Labs’ employees getting screwed over like this.
Didn’t apply because I don’t live anywhere near LA, New York, or Houston. Even if it were in any other big city I’m pretty much in the middle of nowhere so I couldn’t make it to any of the events if I wanted to. Would be cool to experience it early but I’ll just wait until launch to play it .
As weird as it is to get used to I honestly kind of like the new design. Anyone who’s watched DashieXP’s Mario Kart 8 videos however knows that this friendlier look is probably nothing but an act…
@HeadPirate “ If anything, Nintendo of America has been emboldened by the market share in the US increasing so much, and that's been awful for us as they toss their weight around to force changes to bring games inline with Western values.”
Like what exactly? Vivian’s trans identity being canon in the western version of Thousand-Year Door as well? Judging by all the comments articles here talking about it get compared to everything else it seems like a lot of people are still obsessively frothing at the mouth about it.
Nintendo games are largely the same as they’ve ever been in terms of not touching on stuff like that. The only LGBTQ+ stuff they’ve had other than Vivian has really just been gay relationships in Fire Emblem Three Houses and allowing Miis of the same gender to be “soulmates” in Miitopia if I recall correctly. If queer characters existing every now and then is seen by someone as “forced” then that’s a problem they themselves need to deal with.
@Yoshi3 True. Hopefully we get a new mainline F-Zero on Switch 2 (I’d honestly be happy even if they just released a remaster of F-Zero GX with GameCube controller support)
@Yoshi3 F-Zero 99 seems to be doing quite alright. Plus F-Zero has a different appeal than Mario Kart. If they brought Famicom Detective Club back then I imagine they’ll be willing to bring F-Zero back for a mainline entry
@Waveboy Apparently they’ve tried quite a few times but in the end Warner Bros. stopped them from happening. There was a remake of the original trilogy that was proposed by fans, had a prototype and received very positive reception from Netherrealm but Warner Bros killed it because the devs weren’t “experienced”. (They even had the audacity to tell them that after getting the team’s hopes up and saying that a greenlight was likely)
@Pastellioli I imagine the licensing won’t affect backwards compatibility since it seems like it’s going to be similar to the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles’ compatibility with PS4 and Xbox One respectively. AKA physical versions of delisted games will still work.
I’m seriously hoping that original Switch games get some kind of performance boost at least. Don’t care about the graphics too much but I want to play the Arkham games and Dead by Daylight at a smooth framerate! (as well as some first party titles that struggle in specific areas)
@Pastellioli I think the only games that won’t work at all are the Nintendo Labo games since those were built around the size of the original Switch. Assuming the regular Joy-Con are supported (which they should be) then I could see that being the solution to playing other games like Ring Fit Adventure.
@JalapenoSpiceLife The people who were actually putting the game together? Programmers and artists and all those people aren’t the ones ripping you off. They’re just putting the game together and WB and NRS higher ups are the ones who force them to implement the terrible micro transactions.
@JalapenoSpiceLife Jesus christ dude. Human beings just lost their livelihoods today. The people in charge aren’t the ones that suffer from these layoffs. Maybe have some empathy for once?
I’m surprised they didn’t do this earlier since they pulled advertising from the site over a year ago. Needless to say it’s very telling that this whole rebrand has been a complete and utter failure considering all of these companies are saying “yeah no thanks”.
@GarlicGuzzler “Free speech” nowadays for many means “free to openly be a hateful bigot with no repercussions” unfortunately. Even the Muskrat himself is publicly doing it.
@NinjaNicky I vastly prefer these low poly games that perform really well to realistic games that barely feel like video games and run like crap on the Switch 🤷
These games are super fun when playing with friends (though it always takes a bit for me to start coming up with funny answers every time I play lmao) so an M-rated version of it sounds interesting to say the least.
Seems like a fine enough game for people who like exploring the ocean. “Story chapters locked behind crap objectives” sounds a bit harsh and hostile for an “average” game.
@Not_Soos No one is saying he didn’t get death threats. Even though what he did was terrible and harmful (not going into detail because I’m tired of talking about that whole fiasco) he didn’t deserve them. Nobody does.
My point is that 99% of the time death threats are sent by cishet conservative gamers to people of color and queer folk over games “hating straight white men” just because they have a trans character or something minor like that.
@SoIDecidedTo The company that helps developers (who go to them WILLINGLY unlike what you guys claim to be the case) with writing for minority groups they’re not a part of is the one filled with hate? Not the Gamers™️ who regularly send death threats to people of color and LGBTQ+ folk? Ok bud.
Wasn’t this a plan for the original Switch that got scrapped because it was a bad idea? Why ditch something that works perfectly fine just to be “different”? I know being different is Nintendo's thing but it’s harmed them in the past (i.e. the GameCube using mini-discs instead of regular DVDs as well as not having DVD functionality for it, which was a big reason people bought a PS2 or Xbox)
Unlike a lot of other Nintendo fans out there who seemingly just want the first-party stuff I’m actually really interested in more obscure titles like this coming to NSO. I’ll have to try these sometime soon.
@GrailUK Cruis’n Blast was so much fun all those times I played it at our local arcade with friends. The hidden vehicles you can select make it even better.
This kind of thinking on Nintendo’s part is so behind the times. Just wait until they discover you can watch Metroid gameplay on Xbox and PlayStation 😱
Master Chief, Kratos and Samus hitting the griddy together in harmony would’ve been perfect… 😔
I’ve played through this at a local arcade with friends and it was fine. Neat that it’s on Switch so that people can experience it outside of that but it works far better as an arcade game you’d play for a few minutes and nothing more.
Maybe I’m biased since I’m a 2002 baby but in my opinion gaming was in its peak around 2001-2007. So many big things happened. The GBA released and brought handheld gaming forward, along with the DS three years later. GTA 3 came out and was a huge hit. A lot of games from the previous gen got sequels that improved on their predecessors, HD gaming got a start with the Xbox 360’s release. Online gaming became a mainstream concept with the OG Xbox after previously being featured on the Dreamcast, etc.

Kinda strange that they don’t have the Switch 2 logo in there even though the system was revealed almost two weeks ago.
