They still have a long way down to match Steam/IOS/Android's shops.
I guess the question is how do you stop this? You start 'seals of quality' or whatever metric and then there's good games you miss and folks are mad. You let most the things in then you get this and folks are mad.
Even AAA stuff on the Switch can be hit or miss. Do you not allow a game on the eshop that has framerate/resolution issues? Does N say 'it only goes in if it's as good as Mario Odyssee' or something like that?
I understand what you're saying but I kinda have to disagree. Removing historical stuff cause 'gross' isn't a good thing imo.
The confederate flag is the same thing. Fine don't sell it or fly it really (unless you're one of the 74 million traitors in the USA last election) but don't remove it from prior art. There's lessons to be learned.
Sure it was interesting for about 10 minutes then just meh. The Simpsons' one was a bit more interesting just for the Simpsons but it still got old real fast.
It can't run last gen games very well. Why would anyone think it would get any new IP that is only xb/ps?
The Switch will be sold on smaller indie games and N's stuff until they figure out the successor and that's not looking too rosy. Knowing Nintendo the Switch 2 will be just more color combinations or some other Nintendo nonsense.
And now reading about this being a 'endless runner'. Nope. Hard skip for me.
Sony being the king of money-hatting every dev for PS exclusivity (timed or not) needs some pushback. MS buying out Bethesda/whoever is another good start.
Sony can't keep owning the console space. It isn't healthy.
Currently working through Horizon ZD but will try the demo. Probably on PS4 where it'll be fully realized. I might also try it on Switch just to see how much the graphics were chopped down.
But how else can a company boast the game is 200 hours long? Cause if I pay money for some game; it better last me a year of 40 hour a week playing....
Not really. Grinding is horrific as is most stuff put in games to 'extend' time. I've played quite a few games that should've stopped at say 6 hours but were extended with pointless stuff that didn't matter.
I think it will be. Cyberpunk kinda shows how this stuff is going to have to go.
Sony/MS decided to fracture gaming into base/pro with settings (I play GoW4 on my PS4 Pro in performance mode) and there's been a few games on Switch with these settings.
R@Clank on PS5 have a 'performance and pretty mode' so this is going to be something going forward. Not a fan myself since 'console' means just playing but here we are.
The graphics do have a similar 'some cell shaded, some trying to be more real' look like BOTW which I liked enough but some folks found the style off-putting.
BOTW is definitely more cell-shaded. I think the areas look good but the characters don't mesh with them very well. Like putting action figures on a painting or something.. I dunno. Not bad but odd.
Just make a Switch 2 and a sweet deal with Apple for the M1 processor. Drop some N games on the Apple Arcade or something.
M1, 8gb ram, 1080 (maybe upscaled higher but I don't care 1080 is fine), 256gb on board storage and maybe a nicer screen and there you go.
But it's Nintendo so no sense will come out of that HQ. They'll milk the switch as is for as long as possible bringing back the 'will they go 3rd party' talk after sales long dry up and everyone is playing on xbsx/ps5/gtx3k pcs and then they'll do some dumb stuff like bring out a waggle switch or something else stupid like they tend to do...
They ain't going back to the NES/SNES days and that's really a shame. Fare thee well Nintendo; I'm glad to have known you but I think I might be done with your incredible contempt for your fans and your inability to see past your own noses.
Um, 4k 30 you mean. Ain't nothing gonna ray trace (their very simple implementation of it) at 60fps/4k.
I'd have rather sony/ms gone with 1080/60/full FX but it seems those guys can't give up the 'Moar resolution' war. Heck so far the PS5 is upscaling more than the XBSX so those dumb dumbs ain't even truly hitting 4k already on pretty bog standard hardware (nothing much special with the new twins).
Though ol' Doug needs to start talking about a Switch 2 or looking for a new job. Time for N to get off the dang pot and update the old girl.
The only games I liked was Turtles 2 on the NES (or MAME for the better version; sadly the arcade never came out on anything that could actually run it well), Turtles in time and Turtles Hyperstone Heist.
Turtles 1 was atrocious and pretty much everything after the SNES/Genesis is an abomination.
The Switch was underpowered when they released it.
They really need to iterate faster since it's a mobile system. Arm moves very quickly compared to x86 so a new Switch every 2-3 years would probably be for the better. Sell them sans dock for 299$ every 3 years.
As for the demo; I noticed some frame rate drops but nothing that really bugged me too much (handheld). It's a warriors game so that's to be expected imo even with the Switch being very weak. I may buy it cheap some day. The camera is definitely awful and that wall jump is totally worthless from my playtime.
I only have 1 TV that's usable for video games and it's also the TV watching TV so I do handheld and the wife can watch TV.
That and for some reason I like handheld more. Partly the way the living room is set up the TV has wicked glare most of teh day and it's sometimes hard to read stuff on the TV since it's only 52" and I sit something like 8-10 ft away.
But having the ability to dock is a good thing imo even though I don't make use of it.
What's the point of limited time though? Just a stupid publicity stunt?
I get it with physical goods (still a dumb publicity stunt) but games can be sold forever digitally. Maybe that's all it is though. The 3d all stars stuff I expected would just be piecemealed after the 'limited' run for maximum profit.
Well the issue was the stupid cartridge instead of CD and that stupid mini-disc instead of DVD. The power wasn't the problem; it was their awful 'anti-piracy/short sightedness' that killed them in the console space.
They're smarter to keep the Switch brand and just iterate on it (faster, better battery life, better joycons, etc). No reason to try and keep up with the 'moar powah' crowd. I'd wager even if N released a similar powered console as the PS5/XBSX they'd never get back to where they were with the NES/SNES. That ship has sailed imo.
edit: Also remember N doesn't understand how the internet works. You think they can compete with that rag tag service compared to what MS does? Heck even Sony's online is barely up to par; N is so far behind it would be sad if it weren't so funny.
Why? They can't compete in the dedicated console space as proved since the poor choices that led them to the N64 and on. The Switch provides something the Twins aren't doing that seems to have caught on. Just iterate faster (say every 2 years) and I think it'd be a winner winner.

It's a minefield.
Re: Nintendo Plugs Zelda: Skyward Sword HD With New "Button-Only" Control Scheme
@VoidofLight
Yeah I'm skipping this. Motion controls are awful and using a stick to swing the sword sounds stupid too.
Just map it to an actual button N. Motion controls needed to die with the Wii.
Re: Feature: Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link Taught Me The Value Of Perseverance
@kepsux
Yep. It was bad when I first played it in the early 90's and hasn't aged well at all.
That dig at Simon's Quest though... Shame. Though looking at it now yeah; it's rough.
Re: Monster Hunter Rise Officially No Longer A Switch Exclusive, Coming To PC In 2022
@thesilverbrick
I played the demo and quit. I played another MH demo and quit that as well.
The games are not for me. Not many Capcom games are for me honestly. I don't really dig what they do.
Re: Review: Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection - A Masochistic Medieval Marvel
I've hated every one of these games and won't play this one.
It's very niche type of game.
Re: SNK Announces Neo Geo Pocket Color Compilation For Nintendo Switch
If they're doing this then why not just port the OG Neo games and not the portables?

Too bad N is too lazy to do anything right other than prey on us oldsters that grew up with them.
Re: Beep Beep! Taxi Chaos Takes Its Directions From Crazy Taxi, Coming To Switch On February 23rd
Not even sure why crazy taxi was popular.
Sure it was interesting for about 10 minutes then just meh. The Simpsons' one was a bit more interesting just for the Simpsons but it still got old real fast.
Re: Video: Here's Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Looking Stunning In 4K, 60FPS
@Clyde_Radcliffe
It looks nicer and I like the framerate but yeah; I think I agree. Taking old games and just uprezzing/upping the fps isn't what I'd want.
I'd also say a full remake would be much better.

Re: #DRIVE Is A Gorgeous Endless-Driver Game Inspired By '80s Action Films

Yeah. This looks interesting as I have enjoyed Horizon Turbo but I'd need to see what it plays like.
What's an 'endless driver game'? Outrun type thing? If that's the case not sure I'd enjoy it.

Re: Random: Super Mario 64 Gets A Ray Tracing Makeover Thanks To Fan Mod
Interesting but RT is still a novelty even with the 3xxx cards.
Probably take another gen or 2 to get it in a state that's more refined with performance.
That was Mario 64 and there was slowdown. Just think about that.
Re: SNK Vs. Capcom, One Of Video Gaming's Greatest Crossovers, Is Coming To Switch

No thanks.
Re: Random: Dataminers Use Original Uncompressed Samples To Restore Super Mario World's Soundtrack

Re: Review: DOOM Eternal - This 'Impossible' Port Is Nothing Short Of A Miracle
These games are PC through and through. Playing with jigglesticks would be a nightmare. May as well get punched in the crotch for 8 hours.
Re: Video: 16 Brutal Minutes Of DOOM Eternal Switch Gameplay
Doesn't look too bad considering it's running on a potato.
Playing with joycons though would have to be maddening (bad enough on a regular controller). The new Dooms basically require KB/Mouse imo.

Nintendo is staffed with idiots. News at 11.
Re: Review: Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered - A Racer From A More Innocent Time

IMO Burnout Paradise ruined Burnout. Not everything has to be some open world non-sense.
This sounds much better imo. Or port Burnout 3 to it.

Wonder how easy/pricey it would be to get an XBSX delivered from JPN since it seems like they'll always have stock there.
Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - Not The Zelda Game You Want, But Perhaps The One You Need
I was wanting this game but will probably pass on it unless I can find it in a bargain bin somewhere.

Good to know.
I really really regret getting a Wii. I could've used that money for bourbon and been a lot better off.
Re: Review: No More Heroes - A Crude And Madcap Anime Nightmare That Deserves Your Attention
I have this on the Wii but couldn't stand it. The 'waggle fighting' was madness like every other bit of waggle on that stupid system.
Does this one actually play with the buttons or do you still have to flail around like an idiot to play it?
Re: SMITE Adds Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles As Playable Characters

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo Revealed
It didn't seem too bad to me.
I would never pay full price for a game like this anyway. I think I'd like to pick up hyrule warriors/Aoc but i'll grab the carts used for cheap.
Warriors games are fun for a little while but tend to bore me after a bit so no way i'd pay full price even if it ran 4k/60fps.

Ports abound on all the systems. Maybe MS will be different with their BC push but N/Sony will still be a'portin.
Re: Review: G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout - Bland, Forgettable Saturday Morning Fare
Wish Konami (or whoever owns them now) would remaster GI Joe Arcade and release it for 5$ or something. That game was great.
Re: Random: Not Everyone Is Happy With Cadence Of Hyrule's Interior Artwork
I think it's silly they have such large boxes for such small cards.
Why they couldn't go with DS sized boxes is a mystery to me.

Re: Poll: Do You Play Your Switch More In Docked Or Handheld Mode?
100% handheld.

Re: Alwa's Legacy Is Another Switch Success Story, Blowing Steam Sales Out Of The Water

I play the PC for big blockbuster stuff. The Switch is perfect for the simple pixel side scroller.
