It's an FPS only really in POV. Now if they'd change it to a run-n-gunner then it might break out but the way the games play they're not mainstream FPS type things.
I mean breaking of the weapons soured me on it and this is running on a potato so I might pick it up if N ever releases a new console and it can BC/upgrade framerate.
But Breaking of the Weapons really ruined LoZ for me. Doesn't help that the world is barren and really boring. Walking simulators are more interesting.
And a toaster of internals for about that time as well.
N has to get off their lazy butts and get a successor out. I'd much rather play Breaking of the Weapons emulated in decent quality over the dreck the Switch is now.
It's a portable and needs to hew to a faster upgrade cadence with lower prices.
I've had the regular game forever and uninstalled it to save space on the card. I need to finally start it and actually play. I liked Morrowind and Oblivion enough.
I know what fpga's do. I don't care about all that.
If I were to limit to 16 bit era stuff this thing is fantastic from the reviews but I don't care about full perfect timings/etc. I don't play professionally so no biggie to use emulation for me.
Nice. I don't think I'm going to mess with one of these though as I want to get a good portable PS2 emulator so it'll be a Steam Deck or some form like that.
Nice system for sure. Maybe they'll make a more upgraded one eventually but from what I understand there's some pretty heavy ram limitations in this one. Could be mistaken as I'm no expert on emulation.
The pro consoles were stop gaps due to 4k and nothing more. I don't think you'll see that this gen.
As long as it's BC fully with Switch 1 then it's all good. I'd like to see BC being incorporated for every gen possible for all makers. It's just good consumer sense; which we all know isn't how these companies (except maybe MS sometimes) even operate.
I don't disagree wrt the 60fps comment but don't think N should abandon the Switch form factor.
The XBSX/PS5 are UE4 1440 60fps consoles and you're going to be real disappointed when UE5 stuff is 30 fps with all sorts of dynamic tricks.
IMO 60fps should be standard across it all but that's a tall ask for developers that like to cram in all the things that cripple slower systems. I can't huck a real gfx card into my PS5 to make it capable; I'm stuck with the old busted AMD stuff it came with. Same with N's stuff.
Yeah. Some portable with some dock ++ attachment breaks the whole thing N is going for imo. At that point just make a home console with all the power you can and re-send the portable side back to game boy type stuff (limited type portable games).
The Switch needs a follow up and that follow up could upscale old games (MS does it and adds HDR). I don't think it can ever be on par with what is plugged in under a tv of course unless science makes a huge breakthrough in either CPU tech or battery tech. It's still going to be 'slow' compared to something that can eat 500W from a wall jack.
These would be nifty in some sort of bar area/basement/man-cave type space. I guess it'd be more for some interactive decoration but would be pretty cool.
Of course I have 0 space for any of that so no go here.
I've heard it's a good game; waggle just ruined it.
I still want a new top down Zelda game. I'm done with the 3d nonsense (all around not just Zelda). Best Zelda in the last 10 years is the remake of Link's Awakening. The 3d games just aren't near as good. Too bad N can't go back.

Re: DOOM Is Getting A New And Improved Definitive Release On Super Nintendo
@EVIL-C
Never had the SNES copy but do have the 3DO copy. ... Not a lot better.
This is pretty cool. I'm interested to see how it looks/runs.
Re: Mini Review: MARS 2120 (Switch) - A Mediocre Ode To Metroid Dread
I looked at the screen shots and could hardly tell what I was looking at. So ugly.
Re: Review: Abathor (Switch) - Retro Fantasy Hack 'N' Slash Is Great Fun With Friends
@Ristar24
It's free on Steam (a piece of it or something) and yeah; I felt the same way compared to Rastan.
I want to like it but the movement/something is wrong and in this type of game that's a killer imo.
Re: Review: Hot Lap Racing (Switch) - An Enjoyable "Simcade" Racer That Still Falls Between Stools
@ShingoTamaiX
Heh. I've given up on the Switch and have since about 2022.
I'm sorry N but I'm out. If the Switch 2 does what I need it to do and fixes about 100 ergonomic misses of the Switch 1 then I'll look into it.
Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'
@Nameless_Shame
Yeah; I didn't care to look and just gave an easy number. hell 20 years since Prime so any day now..
Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'
@NinChocolate
Sure. Metroid has been around for what; 25+ years.
Any day now right?
Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'
@NinChocolate
Eh Metroid is a niche game.
It's an FPS only really in POV. Now if they'd change it to a run-n-gunner then it might break out but the way the games play they're not mainstream FPS type things.
Re: No, The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Was Not Running On 'Switch 2'
If that was Switch2 then I'd already be skipping it and wanting Switch3.
Re: Soapbox: I Hated Metroid: Zero Mission At First, Until I Loved It
I played this one for a while and liked it enough until the run/slide area through all the blocks over the lava or whatever.
Nope. Quit after trying about 10 times. Terrible mechanic. Thankfully I emulated so save state but even that didn't save it. I'm done.
Re: We’ve Played Batman: Arkham Knight On Switch - Here’s 17 Minutes Of Gameplay
@The-Chosen-one
I never played but handheld would be nice.
I have a Steamdeck OLED for it.
Re: Devolver's Bleak Sword DX Brings Pocket-Sized Monster Battles To Switch Next Month
Looks interesting.
What type of game is this?
Re: Feature: The Best Builds We've Seen In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom So Far
@ComfyAko
One of the reasons I'm probably skipping. I hated nuts and bolts and dislike any crafting.
Good for those who like that stuff but I bounce off it hard every time the mechanic is put in a game.
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Has Surpassed 10 Million Sales In Three Days

He's not a Nintendo fanboy?

Re: Anniversary: LostWinds First Launched 15 Years Ago Today
I still have it on my Wii.
Played a bit and it was interesting but wii-mote games got on my nerves pretty quickly. So glad that stuff is gone.
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Nintendo Ad Teases New Master Sword Details
So it breaks in like 3 hits?
Re: Review: Alan Wake Remastered - A Modern Classic Returns With Major Visual Downgrades On Switch
N needs to get that Switch2 out.
Who is buying these smeary poorly performing ports?
And yeah; it should at least look/run as good as the 360 version or even the old PC version.
Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator
@wicktus
Yeah, Switch2 should be pretty baked at this point. N's just milking the 'supply chain' excuse cause well; it's N.
I mean the Switch is fine if one really like pixel metroidvania games but it's much too long in the tooth. Get the Switch2 out there asap.

Re: Gorgeous Pixel-Art Metroidvania Secures Funding For A Switch Port
@LiquidNinja
Metroidvanias, Souls-likes, Rogue-likes. Seems that's pretty much the breadth of the industry right now.
Re: You Can Now Play NES Games On The Analogue Pocket
@Iconoclysm
For me I've not yet come across it but again; I've never been all that into things like that.
Contra plays just fine to me on an emulator compared to a Nes sitting by the TV. Mario World the same, etc.
The games you are probably thinking of I never got into anyway. Maybe something like Mega Man which I thoroughly detested from day 1.
So nah; I'm good with emulation. YMMV of course.
Re: You Can Now Play NES Games On The Analogue Pocket

Switch2 or bust imo.

Re: NPD Results Show PlayStation 5 Outsold Switch In August (North America)
@HeroEightBit
Yeah N is definitely milking this thing waaaay past it's expired date.
I guess they can just blame 'supply chain' and continue on. I guess most folks are just playing N games or indie pixel stuff so carry on I guess.
Re: Best Contra Games On Nintendo Systems
3 was the best imo.
Then 1, then super c.
Never played the genesis one. Need to rectify that.
Re: Virtua Racing-Inspired 'Formula Retro Racing World Tour' Speeds Onto Switch

Well price is another aspect. Cheap consoles everyone can enjoy.
Re: Random: This Fan Found A Sealed Copy Of Nintendo Power #1 - Should He Open It?
Depending on current life issues I'd keep it to sell later.
But if money needed or whatever then sell.
Or if rich open and see if it blends.

@zbinks
Yeah; I can't see why this couldn't run on Switch at 60. Doesn't look any more complicated than Horizon Chase or the VRacing port.
Re: Random: Popular Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Glitch Can Get You 10,000 Arrows In Minutes
One of these days I'll have to get back into this game; use whatever glitches and play through.
Item breakage was the reason I quit (bad mechanic imo) but if I can cheese stuff then I'll just do that and play through.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Investigates Switch's Lowest Resolution Games

Re: Video: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Frame Rates In Games
Consistency first and foremost. Frames and frame pacing.
Next comes 60 fps. That should be the bar and games should be designed around that if at all possible.
30 fps is the bare minimum of playability and it needs to be rock solid. No dips or pacing issues.
VRR helps as long as it's done right. Sony dropped the ball there and I'm not sure N would ever support it given that they're allergic to technology.
Re: Netflix Cancels Resident Evil Series After First Season
I couldn't make it through ep 1.
The CGI RE show isn't cancer causing so maybe that one will stick around but that new one; hoo boy.
And the poster talking about She-Hulk; yeah. Even the ads/FX shown make that look like some half-funded Disney Channel effort. So bad.
Re: Rumour: Amazon Is Reportedly Preparing To Buy Electronic Arts

When's the last time EA was AAA? That's just the Madden company.
Re: Review: Islets - A Wholesome, Hand-Painted Metroidvania That's Stunning To Look At
@Maximumbeans
I don't play games that expect me to just waste time walking around for hours.
GFX look nice but the description of gameplay is a big no from me.
Re: Random: This Mad Lad Is Building All Of Breath Of The Wild In Minecraft
Nifty.
Bet it looks pretty nice in RT mode.
Re: The Aya Neo Air Is A $600 Switch Lite-Sized Pocket PC
@PhhhCough
0 hours of Elden Ring or Dark Souls sounds like a selling point to me.
Re: This Gorgeous Action Game Looks Like A Moving Stained Glass Window
@Realness
It's not a limitation of hand drawn art. My guess is it's a limitation of the middleware they're using.
Hand drawn is just expensive.

Re: The Aya Neo Air Is A $600 Switch Lite-Sized Pocket PC
Interesting if only for a more fully compatible/easier to deal with emulator console.
The little chinese things are ok but something more robust/running a real OS with better support is something I might be interested in eventually.
Battery life is a big sticking point for sure.
Re: SEGA Genesis Mini 2 Games List - Every Mega Drive And SEGA CD Game, All 61 Titles
Bummer no Lunar and no Mortal Kombat CD.
Dunno why they'd waste space on something like Night Trap.
Oh well; it's been pre-ordered on a whim so I guess I might get one if they have enough.
Re: Poll: What's The Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game?
Arcade will always have the #1 spot in my heart (the actual arcade, not the nes copy).
Re: Horizon Chase Turbo Gets Blown Wide Open With New Free 'Adventures Mode'
I enjoy this one more than most other racers. Wreckfest is probably #2 on the list.
Stuff like GT/Forza/Grid can just nope right off. Fun like getting slapped in the junk with a live tuna.
Re: Owlboy Devs Move From Birds To Vikings In Its Bouncy Co-Op Follow-Up
Not for me at all but I do like these guy's art style for sure.
Re: Nintendo President Says Switch Production Is "Uncertain" Next Year
Why would they raise prices? There has to be about 100% profit margin on that potato at the price it's at.
The Switch should be down to 149.99$ or something at this point.
Re: GAME's 'Home Arcade' Range Lets You Build The Arcade Of Your Dreams

Yeah; I didn't know what rollback was and didn't care to look it up. Now I know.
Re: Talking Point: What's The Highlight Of Your Game Collection?
If I had to pick something it'd be my 3DO and game collection. All boxes but sadly I don't still have the console's box.

Re: Watch: This 90-Minute Deep Dive Into Two Of The Most Underrated Zeldas Is Well Worth The Time
I didn't like them; the control with touchscreen Nintendo nonsense did me in.
Same with Twilight Princess and the waggle garbage. Totally ruined it and I quit in about an hour. No sir.
