We wrote about the possibility of Double Dragon Neon coming to Switch way back in August last year. It seems that since then, Majesco has been busy at work with WayFoward in bringing this bodacious, cult classic, co-op beat 'em up to the Switch.
Released back in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Double Dragon Neon is a fitting tribute to the classic beat 'em up series. Our sister site Push Square awarded it a mighty 9/10 at the time, so it must be good! Here's the official synopsis from that original 2012 release:

This game is excellent, so I'm glad it's coming to Switch.
Thank god you spelled Bimmy correctly.
Super pumped for this release.
Sweet! I've been playing through a bunch of Double Dragon and Kunio Kun games recently and I always wanted to give this a try.
Looking forward to Double Dragon Neon Elbows. The follow up, Luminescent Knees, should be equally as good.
@Slowdive Steeets of Rage 4 has a pixel filter option, just turn it on and the entire game can be played with classic pixel art.
Great game
Did not think it was going to come to the switch
I take its coming on download
Would have preferred cartridge but if the price is right I might get it
Played it on 360 and put it some time in it. Overall I thought the game was pretty goofy and silly but it’s still worth a play though. The music is pretty catchy.
@Slowdive SOR4 is really good, and you can unlock the pixel art characters to use, which is so cool.
Definitely grab SOR4 if you can. Fantastic game.
@Mirage-5x5 it's Wayforward, so I'd expect a Limited Run physical.
Wow those graphics.
It's like a very weird uncanny valley or something.
The visuals are pretty distracting IMO (I'm pretty spoiled by the amazing Streets of Rage 4) but it's cool to have a modern Double Dragon, so I'll keep my eye on it.
@SuperWeird Thank you for the pixel art info. I was holding off for that reason.
Wow the good news keeps on rolling these last 24 hours haha. I absolutely loved this back on the 360. Graphics weren’t great back then and won’t look much better in this post SoR4 world we live in now, but the combat system is great and I love the music as well.
This game was soooo much better then Double Dragon 4. Glad to see it getting a rerelease.
Funny how reviews can vary so much for some games; IGN gave this a 3 out of 10!
Truly a beat 'em up renaissance. I mean, this is old, but still.
@Slowdive The pixel filter applies to the whole game, not just the characters. Background art, characters, everything can be played with pixel art.
Yeah, massive Double Dragon fan here... I'll be buying it!
LOL Bimmy Lee is back and ready to kick some tail!
I've been hoping this would happen since the Switch hit! It's a great game with a terrific sense of humour and an amazing soundtrack...speaking of which...physical release? Of both the game AND the OST please
I had this on PS3, but never got a chance to play it and got rid of my PS3. Might pick this up on Switch. I wonder if this will make its way to PS4/PS5.
@Slowdive SoR4 has a retro filter that gives it a pixelated look. It looks great in my opinion. I originally didn't like the cartoon style either but it grew on me.
This game is awesome, good music and really funny. Please make it a physical copy
This is what happens when they see other similar style games seller so well!
@Slowdive there is nothing short of pixel art games out there. But to each their own I guess.
Great! I really enjoyed this, back in ps3. Makes me wish for a proper DD collection.
Double Dragon Neon is a lot of fun. I might just have to double dip even though I played the PS3 version to death.
@SuperWeird I thought just the characters were pixel! I might get SOR4 after all.
I never got to finish this on steam, there was some sort of issue that happened when playing this on Windows 10, and as far as I know, it never got resolved. I've been hoping for this announcement for a couple of years now!
I’ll wait for physical!
@Bizzyb Don't forget Jammy! Those two are basically misspelled Mutants you encounter in a mysterious lab.
@ChromaticDracula That's probably because the final trailers for the game showed off the classic pixel characters, but didn't mention anything about playing the entire game with pixel art; you had to buy it to discover that surprise.
I don't think the Xbox version included the retro mode. Not sure about the PS version. But for Switch you can play the entire game with pixel art and it looks just like the original Streets of Rage trilogy.
I hope it has online multiplayer. I'm buying either way.
Keep the good news coming.
Ever since I heard of this game's existence I've wanted to play it on Switch and it looks like my prayers got answered. I'm a huge Double Dragon fan so there's no way I'm not going to play this. Nice little Christmas surprise.
Side note, was that a double high five and a groin bump in the trailer?
@Tasuki
Agreed. I was pretty disappointed with Double Dragon 4.
Good news. Scott Pilgrim and DD Neon on Switch?!
Just the soundtrack alone warrants a purchase. Loved this on PS3 and was hoping for this day. Just after I cleaned out my Switch for potentially buying Doom Eternal too. Phooey.
I’m throwing money at the screen but nothing is happening!
@ChromaticDracula Just to be clear, it simply lowers the resolution of the game. It doesn't look at all like proper pixel art, it actually looks pretty crap with that filter on.
Find footage of it on youtube before letting that be the basis of your purchasing decisions, because you might be disappointed.
It's a great game though.
Awwwwwwwwwwwww, yeah!!!!!
I was bummed that we didn't get this on Wii (?) back in the day.
Buuuut... I think I will wait for a LRG physical release as I have more than enough to play at the moment.
Outstanding game, I greatly enjoyed it. I just hope this version has better netcode, I played this on PC with a friend online and the input delay was atrocious.
Very glad this is getting ported.
Damn it! I bought it on PS3 only a few months ago. I couldn't wait, thinking it would never move to Switch or even PS4. Still a great game, not that I'll be buying it again. Perhaps when it's dirt cheap, which is probably never, because DD4 from 3 years ago is still full price (albeit it it's a different developer).
Nice now all that's left is Super Double Dragon for NSO.
I wouldn't say it got too good reviews back then, but it definitely had its audience and I'll probably refrain from playing it on Game Pass if it has to come to the Switch, where I have all my other entries (still unplayed). Physical would be awesome.
It is certainly a fun game for DD fans and the Switch is such a natural home where it should be. But wow is it really 8 years since it came out? How the time flies.
I’m sorry, but imho this did not look good. Can we please stop with crappy looking ‘flash’ graphics?
YAAAAAYYYYY!!!! I'M SO EXCITED TO GET TO FINALLY GET A CHANCE TO BUY THE SAME GAME TWICE SO I CAN REFUSE AND THE DEVELOPERS USE THAT AS AN EXCUSE TO CLAIM THERE IS NOT ENOUGH SUPPORT FOR THE SAME GAME OVER HALF OF SWITCH OWNERS ALREADY HAVE! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I can't see it on eShop here in the UK, can anyone else confirm if it's there?
Thanks
