I just went to download in on my 3DS since I was thinking about it, and it doesn't appear to be there yet still. And they said they wanted to update it on all platforms in April. I guess that never happened. I've also been searching around, and can't seem to find any form of UK release date for it. Well this is fun...
I did not notice this, in fact, as the latest update also made the app not work on my phone. Now when I try and play it, it'll start losing, then say "This device, OS, or software is not compatible with Pokémon GO." Yaaaaay.
To be honest, if people can't work out that there's a button to turn off the AR functionality, the probably shouldn't be working anyway. And playing Pokémon Go is only a distraction in a dangerous working environment if they are playing it while the should be working, which they should be punished for anyway, whether it be Pokémon Go or anything else. Basically, my point is that saying that is a bit pointless, really.
Something I still can't help but wonder: if this is the last splatfest, how are we going to get snails after this? Will we just be unable to upgrade slots and shuffle existing ones once we run out?
I wasn't entirely certain until I saw it was based on Windjammers, but I did think it looked mighty similar to flatball. I couldn't even think that with a straight face, let alone say it. Phantom is stupid. Flatball XD
But seriously though, from what I've seen of Windjammers, that actually looks like a really fun game.
After taking a second look at the video, I noticed that the only way to turn the camera is to fire your gun. Going to be honest, I feel like that could be somewhat problematic.
I'm also not surprised that the stage seemed quite linear, because I noticed you can't turn the camera while in squid form (also, no squid transforming animation. I'm very disappointed). I also noticed standing in the oponents ink doesn't slow you down, which is one of Splatoon's main mechanics. Basically, the entire control scheme just looks terrible, and they missed some important mechanics.
I like how I'm the only person complaining about the control scheme.
I see what they did, they’re implying that if you wait for the train to pass, it'll go better for you (obviously), but it doubles up as saying that if we keep waiting, there may or may not be a new MK8 dlc, that may or may not contain Kalimari desert. Assuming they didn't simply forget that it wasn't in the game. But if that was the case, they would've tried to get footage from the MK8 version, then realise there wasn't one. Hmm... Perhaps this does mean something...
So I've just read the entire comment section (like some kind of mad man) and now I think I understand both sides a bit more now. So, Nintendo had been translating media into cantonese, despite not having translated any games. They decided they would translate Pokémon games into Chinese (both simplified and traditional), but only Mandarin, meaning the names that the Hong Kongians (is that the right word? I don't know...) knew would be changed into the Mandarin names. I can understand Nintendo not wanting to translate to both Mandarin and Cantonese of both Traditional and Simplified Chinese, as that would mean translating into four Chinese langauges. I can also understand the Hong Kongians (I know that must be the wrong word, but I don't know what the right word is) complaining about it only being translated into Mandarin and not Cantonese, as though they may technically be the same language, as far as I can tell, it's more akin to how all our Latin based languages, for example, use the same alphabet, but when prounced in a different langauge, they sound very different (ie. the French "boeuf" to the English "beef", or just generally trying to pronounce a French or German word with an English accent. It's not the same).
It'll be interesting to see how Ninty handle this. Also, please correct me on any mistakes I've made; I'm very intrigued by this entire fiasco now.
To be honest, I don't care how much of the game they change, as long as the gameplay's the same. I'd be happy playing Splatofu, y'know? I don't care that much about how it looks, nor about how much it's been changed, I just care about whether or not it's fun to play, y'know?
@maaleska Wait, you mean it can't be rooted if you want to run the app? My phone was rooted before I got it, and I haven't the foggiest you'd go about unrooting it. I don't even know what the benefits of having it rooted even are.
I didn't know there were any problems with the joystick on the N64 controller; in all the years that we owned one (we definitely still owned it when the Wii came out, but we don't have it any more) we never had any issues with the analogue sticks. Are you guys sure that you were playing the games right?
I'm just going to point out to anyone complaining that they're making it too easy by adding the infinite wallet and poe lantern, you could just do this thing, it's called "not using them". The main premise is that you don't get or, if they're unavoidable, don't use them. It's the same as doing a 3 heart run; the heart containers are there if you want them, but if you feel the game is too easy, you can just not collect them. Same way you don't have to collect faries and buy potions, nor do you have to get the biggoron sword. You're essentially just going " How dare they make the game easier, if I choose to use these items." Do you alwauys play Mega Man on hard mode because you don't like that they made it easier for the international release, and think that they should have not added the easier difficulty setting so that they don't reach out to a wider audience (those that want the original experience/want a challenge, and those who just want to enjoy the game/might not be very good at the game)?
My point is, it's completely optional, you don't have to use them if you think it's too easy, but for people like me who are lazy and aren't very good at games, having an optional item to make the game easier/more enjoyable, it's quite nice. I still don't have to use it, and neither do you.
It's like FE Fates phoenix mode all over again: "How dare they try and reach a wider audience! How dare they try to help people enjoy their game! Games aren't meant to be fun!" That's genuinely what those people sound like to me. It doesn't make any sense.
I decided to try and find the UK blacklist. It's number 4, no doubt about it. Doucke, slag, bugger, those types of words, I feel, are particularly British, they kinda give it away.
@pokedude583 I didn't actually realise how long that comment was until I posted it. I hope no one actually wasted their time reading it. And if anyone did, why on Earth would you waste your time on such unimportant things? What is wrong with you?
Looking through commets on this and other posts, I feel like I'm the only person that found getting the skell license a breeze. I mean, I got the collecting one immediately as I already had them, I got the FrontierNav one as soon as I got revenue from there. All I had to go out of my way for was the killing of monsters. Am I the only person that explores everyewhere as much as they can as soon as they're able to, or something?
@Yeahman It confused me when I read your comment because I'd never heard of Squeak Squad. Another case of Nintendo changing the names in different regions for no apparant reason, because it was called Mouse Attack here in the UK.
I'm just going to point out that changing the age doesn't really change anything; it's just an arbitrary number. All they have to do is say that she's X years old, make the voice sound that age and Bob's your uncle, you've just changed the age of a character. That number doesn't mean anything.
Also, who wears clothes under a bikini? That doesn't sound normal, practical or sensible. Although, not being of the female persuasion, I don't know, so correct me if I'm wrong.
I've not encountered any of those problems, luckily. The only problems I've encountered so far have been thanks to my own ineptitude, by which I mean I'm not very good at the game.
You forgot to mention two things. A, beating the 'gnat attack' minigame unlocks the builder mario costume, and B, after unlocking all sample courses, by beating the NWC courses, you unlock tge ability to shake mushrooms into luigi mushrooms.
People keep mentioning 2008 E3 and how this one wasn't as bad. Dare I ask what happened during E3 in 2008? I've only seen the last 2 or 3 E3s, so. Yeah.
I'm looking at this as being less of a "we're going to announce it at E3 so we can't say anything." and more of a "we're working on something else right now (Happy Home Designer) so it could be a while."
It's good that they are being resbonsible and not letting anyone use it so no one cheats or anything else, but knowing that they've done it means that other people - possibly less responsible ones - could eventually achieve the same thing and do the exact opposite, cheating, pirating and distributing it so everyone else can. But for now, we're all safe.

Oh man, eight-directional movement, my favourite. Imagine trying to play Splatoon with a d-pad (like in that game). That does not seem like fun.
