Last month, it was announced Hasbro - the biggest toy maker in the world - would be releasing officially licensed Fortnite Nerf blasters in Spring 2019. Adding to this was the reveal of Fortnite-themed Monopoly - now available in all good toy stores.
In an interview with IGN at 2018's New York Comic-Con, Todd McFarlane - legendary comic book creator and the man behind McFarlane Toys - revealed his own company would be releasing action figures based on Epic Games' free-to-play battle royale title. The figurines will be released in waves, with the plan to eventually compress the time between the characters that drop in the game and release on shelves in action figure form. Todd made the following comments about the Fortnite brand:
I've been dealing with toys for over 20 years, and I've never had a brand this huge be so open to just creating new stuff - they were excited and I was twice as excited...2019 is going to be a big year for us.
At this point in time, no price or release date for the figurine line has been announced, but the aim is to get them out on shelves by this year's holiday season. Take a look at a look at the concept product below:

Not a huge Fortnite fan but I always thought the character designs were the strongest part of it. These don't look too bad, but I wish some other games would get this much merch. For me I can barely find any Splatoon or Street Fighter stuff in my country!
the game with the worst and most random artdesign ever (maybe overwatch is even worse). everytime i see it i feel like i need to puke
Oh cool McFarlane toys!! Oh... Fortnite.
@6ch6ris6 Wow, who !@#$ in your cereal this morning? I mean I don't like fortnite either but dam that's harsh.
I'm still surprised that a property has come out that manages to plunder pop culture at large for profitable references harder than James Cameron's Avatar and World of Warcraft ever could.
These will sell well and that makes me
“Oh no, that property I don’t like! It’s the worst thing ever and so dumb, because I don’t like it! Only things I like should exist!”
Anyway. I don’t go for collectible figures, but images are neat and it’s a good business decision.
At first I saw the cursed colored bear in the pic and thought this was a Five Nights at Freddy’s announcement for Switch. Wish I would have been correct rather than this.
These would be great gifts. They look great
Funko is making Fortnite collectibles too. I’m getting my brother a Cuddle Team Leader Pop! for Christmas.
These will be great gifts for my two daughters that play Fortnite with me. I’m hoping to get at least these or the Funko ones as Christmas gifts. Both would be well received.
@DarthNocturnal I actually played since the beginning but only got properly into it at Season 3 and I’m really sad I didn’t go for Black Knight so when I saw they were doing a funko of him I got it right away haha
I know nothing about this game - is that bear a Breaking Bad reference? Probably coincidence.
The boxes look really old and battered! Is that intentional? Or has the concept been around for a while? It just looks... tatty!
McFarland Toys does great work, these look fantastic!
I'm over collecting figures, but giving credit where it's due.
aaaaaaand they've jumped the shark.
To be expected. Sad great games like minecraft and this have been downgraded to kids games.
I am literally sick to my STOMACH of the stigma around Fortnite. Honestly, the second I see anything regarding the game, I just know there will be a barrage of negative comments. It's just so disgusting to me.
I don't play Pokemon, I just don't see the appeal, but I don't make it a duty of mine to comment on every (or any, for that matter) article I see expressing my distaste. It's so petty and, ask yourself, what does it achieve? You're not sharing a ground breaking opinion, you're echoing what 99% of the voices on the internet love stating. It's also very obvious that the majority of the people who do have something to say have never played it or only played it very passingly.
It isn't an incredible game but it is an unbelievable amount of fun when you get a group of friends together and just chat and play. And the character designs are, at times, stellar.
All I'm saying is that it just comes across as so childish and I can't help but instantly dismiss anybody that comments something like 'ugh fortnite is a kids game'. It just goes against my philosophy in gaming - why should you shame anyone for enjoying a game or shame a game that, regardless of your personal opinion, IS high quality because of its reputation? Just play games and enjoy them. If you don't like something, get over it and play something else.
@MajorasLapdog
I've gotta agree, I mean I don't care about Fortnite and don't consider it nearly as groundbreaking as Minecraft, but it's popular and people seem to enjoy it. You don't have to play it, but you also don't have to be so negative about it online. It's a free to play game that isn't pay to win, that alone is pretty commendable.
@Dalarrun amen to that. Also, I bought a Battle Pass last season to access the premium stuff for £8 and when you purchase it, it straight up tells you that if you play through the pass enough, you'll save up enough v-bucks to get the next season's pass without spending anything more.
If that isn't massively commendable conduct, I don't know what is. Especially for a game that's already free to play!
@Rafke Because they cover merchandise for games that are popular on Nintendo Switch? I don't quite follow you... Are they only supposed to cover first party games or something? That would suck.
@MajorasLapdog
Yeah, it has the best monetization model for a free to play game that I think I've ever seen. That and its art style are the only things that appeal to me, but I hope future free to play games follow suit and stop selling awful loot boxes. Don't even get me started on games with full MSRP's that still try to get you to pay for loot boxes (cough Overwatch). Sure Fortnite's skins are kind of expensive, but at least you know what you're paying for.
I can see these selling well to kids as nearly every 12 year old in the country appears to be playing it.
I have never played it and as it is now on Season 6 I think I won’t understand what is happening as I missed Seasons 1-5. No spoilers please. I’m hoping for reruns.
When a popular game like this brings the masses to gaming, it's easy to scoff a bit, knowing, like most of us, that there are richer and more rewarding experiences available from other games — though, really, this game is exactly what some want out of a video game. Still, Fortnite is fun enough for any gamer to give a try, and having more gamers to support the industry is really important to give enough room for continued support for the types of games you like better.
In other words, if these games that break out into the masses don't come along every once in a while, the industry will lose it's injection of hype/optimism/investment/cash and we get less of what we might feel is the "better" stuff.
Seems like the best plan is to welcome in fans of these games and show them around rather than trash the games they like.
@aaronsullivan
Right. Fortnite is an entry point into gaming for a lot of kids, and that's great.
@Dalarrun I'd just suggest that it's an entry point for adults/parents, as well.
It's also the type of game that people watch, with popular twitch streams and personalities to follow. It casts a wide net.
@aaronsullivan @Dalarrun it's nice to see a little understanding and diplomacy. Gives me a bit of faith in my hobby. Between hyped games being trashed and the 'console wars', which is admittedly much less prominent but still crops up often enough, it is so easy to start to resent a community where everyone just seems out for blood because your opinion might differ.
@aaronsullivan
I get the adult/teen thing, but if they weren't interested in videogames before, they probably aren't going to be when the Fortnite popularity dies down. Also, I personally never understood watching other people play games, and I CERTAINLY don't understand people sitting in their bedrooms making money off of playing games. I think that last bit just has to do with me getting old and bitter that a Twitch "career" wasn't possible when I was younger aha
@MajorasLapdog
I still have MAJOR beef with the AAA gaming industry and their predatory practices, which a lot of hyped games are ruined by, but I otherwise agree with you.
@Dalarrun oh yeah, I completely get that. I'm not suggesting the videogame industry as a whole is perfect at all, there are terrible practices throughout. EA are a particularly awful example of a company denying players of content unless they're willing to fork up more cash on top of what was paid for the software.
I'm simply referring to seeing people's opinions being vehemently bashed and contrarians ripping on something for no reason outside of it being popular. Those are the things I'm growing weary of
@MajorasLapdog
Yeah, it has gotten pretty bad here at NintendoLife. PlayStation fanboys coming over and comparing Nintendo to Sony all the time, Nintendo fanboys downplaying everything not on the Switch just because, that sort of thing. Still, this site has a much better community than IGN and it's why I jumped ship and planted myself here. I've been a PC/Nintendo guy all of my life, though, so I never understood the console wars thing. I do break out my fiance's PS4 for the occasional JRPG and Bloodborne, and I used to be big on Halo in the mid-late 2000's.
@Dalarrun On streaming, yeah, it's a bit foreign to me as an old gamer, too, but it's a real and lasting fixture in gaming, now.
I do relate a bit because I'd have friends over when I was a teen and most games we liked were one player games. So, we would trade off controllers, but since there were 3 or 4 of us, we were watching more than playing when we were gaming together. It was fun to root for the person or watch them crash and burn right after bragging and laughing about it together. Also, when one of us got better than the others at a particular game, it was cool to see parts of the game we might never see on our own.
A lot of that translates to following a streamer that you like.
In general, though, yeah. My son will be watching people play and I'm just like, "Wouldn't it be more fun to play that game?!"
@aaronsullivan
Yeah, as a kid I enjoyed watching my brother/friends play games, but that's because I knew them I guess. I remember being a kid and watching my big brother play Resident Evil. He'd try and hand me the controller, but I was too afraid to play and enjoyed watching him play it with a blanket to cover my eyes when it was too much for me. Twitch is good for shining light on smaller indie games, and I appreciate it for that
@I_Am_A_Geek Why? Is there something wrong with kids liking things?
@Dalarrun I was fortunate enough as a kid to be able to scrounge up money and beg for gifts that let me get both SEGA and Nintendo consoles during their competition, so I never though much of the "war".
I found the differences interesting, but I guess if someone was "stuck" with one console, they might want to feel better about the only one they had. Not much has changed there, I guess.
Sick to death of Fortnite and its fandom.
I wish it would just rot and wither away...
@Dalarrun I'm pretty sure the origin of this site was a record of all the virtual console games on Wii. So, I think it started with a bunch of older people looking for their favorite games and then it morphed into a full blown Nintendo site and the community had some commonality to start with. As the popularity of Nintendo has ebbed and flowed, it seems like there are always a few people here that don't mind digging into a more complex view on things.
It's one of the few comment sections I engage with and easily the most rewarding for me, anyway.
@aaronsullivan
Most of the regulars on this site seem pretty cool. Nintendo fans ready to applaud the company when they're doing great, but also able to call them out without being overtly harsh when they mess up. It's the regular negative Nancies here that I don't understand.
@0rwellianson
I have found it to effect my gaming life like this:
Oh, my students are talking about this game, I'll give it a try. I see, has a good one-more-time hook to it. This is kind of fun, but I'm probably not going to have time to get too much better. Look at how popular it is. That's why my kids are learning these new dance moves. Funny.
And... that's about it! I never got sick! I'm sorry that people enjoying stuff seems to makes you feel so down.
Next, they should try this outfit.
@aaronsullivan
Gotta admit, I love the flossing dance Fortnite has made popular. It's so stupid looking and genuinely makes me laugh every time I see it.
@Jewfro_Wizard Its more of what reputation they give the game. Kids liking it are fine, but if all you see online about it are kids screaming things they shouldn't even be old enough to know about, it gives it a reputation as a "kids game" deterring off many players.
@I_Am_A_Geek
Most online shooters have had these problems, dating all the way back to Halo 2.
@MajorasLapdog
Lol upset much
@aznable very intelligent insight
@MajorasLapdog
One tries, one tries
@aaronsullivan I’ve tried the game; it’s complete rubbish. Stop defending rubbish.
@Dalarrun Haha. Yeah, I can even do it... but no one outside my immediate family should ever see that.
@0rwellianson I'm happy to "defend" what you think is rubbish. Our tastes don't have to align. I would never expect someone to like the game because a bunch of other people do, but I don't see much value in pretending that something I don't like that much is somehow indicative of what others should think of it.
Everyone gets something different out of gaming, and this is certainly hitting a nerve with a wide audience. If there's harm in it, I don't think it has to do with the game play mechanics, the quality of presentation, or the sales model. It's all pretty solid and respectable, if not very deep.
how do i block fortnite articles
@AxeltheBuizel if you're a fan of Streetfighter figures, chase up the SOTA Toys (State of the Art Toys) line. They were released 15 years ago and are amazing. I've been hunting around eBay and have secured 8 of them from my favourite characters. Fully articulated, come with interchangeable hands, heads and accessories. Many are still sold boxed (all mine were).
@SushiGummy By not clicking and commenting on them.
@aaronsullivan by supporting trash; you become trash by association. Bug off.
@SushiGummy let me know when you figure that out...
@Dalarrun that’s just you, cupcake. Go be pathetic somewhere else.
@0rwellianson
You're the only pathetic person here. Instead of adding to a friendly, peaceful conversation, you resort to name calling because you don't have a single intelligent thought in that big head of yours. Maybe you should hop on over to IGN with all of the other teenagers who call each other names instead of actually discussing anything.
@Galenmereth
The game itself is aimed for everyone, even their somewhat random skins. However, many of the skins have a certain theme to them. They aren't really random. There is just so many of them it feels like it is. I personally enjoy Fortnite, and hope that those comments we'll be a bit more positive.
@Dalarrun maybe you shouldn’t act like a triggered little nancy boy and lighten up; opinions are just that; opinions. If you can’t stand that, maybe you should stay off the internet and live as a hermit in the mountains somewhere, you flaccid dunce.
@0rwellianson
Yeah, you're definitely a preteen. Thanks for confirming. Blocked.
@Jawessome I've heard of those, and they've made a lot of my favourite characters, but they are very expensive.
@0rwellianson I'm happy to have a discussion with someone who has supporting ideas, or some evidence of rational thought behind their proclamations. Any chance you might add some of that, or should I just ignore you?
