Nintendo's fiscal results show an impressive increase in sales performance across the board, and that includes its growing library of apps for the smart device market. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp marked the main new addition to the company's official mobile games collection, with combined sales from smart device and mobile IP coming to 39.3 billion yen. To put that in context, it's a 62% year-on-year increase.
The game - which controversially introduced a form of loot box earlier this month - joins the likes of Pokémon GO, Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes as Nintendo continues to grow its investment in smartphone gaming. The firm also has Mario Kart Tour in development, a 'free-to-start' that's yet to be given a proper release date.

The mobile titles do a good job raising awareness of Nintendo's franchises.
That won't stop people from complaining about them on this site.
I love FeH
Have to admit that I stopped playing Animal Crossing a few months ago, but I finally started playing Pokemon Go. Glad to hear that mobile apps were a good decision.
And of course will make a tidy profit in addition to the raised awareness.
Could we at least mention Miitomo?!? I realize it’s the WiiU of Nintendo’s mobile titles, but surely it contributed in some manner to these revenues.
@bluedogrulez
The revenues from Miitomo allowed Nintendo to pay for a brand new toaster in the office kitchen.
I'm only joking, I liked Miitomo possibly the most!
I've spent more time (and money) on Fire Emblem Heroes than any other mobile game, not that that's saying much. Consoles all the way
@liljmoore Wait, what? I mean, I don't disagree with you... about the existence of mobile games being fine. But loot boxes make billions each year, and people are allowed to complain about those in my opinion.
That’s great news, but they could make even more money if they released all of their games globally. To date, neither Animal Crossing nor Fire Emblem are available in my country, and it’s probably the same in most of Latin America. And I refuse to go out of my way with a foreign account just to work around this silly region restriction.
@Octane There is a huge difference between lootboxes in paid games and free games though.
I hate the overwhelming majority of mobile games. But these days smart phones are everywhere and the only games on mobile I will play are Hearthstone, Pokemon Go and Fire Emblem. Hearthstone being the only one I acknowledge as being almost as good as the original since it IS the same game, shoved onto a touch screen only format.
But I digress, because smartphones are everywhere, smartphone games too, are everywhere. They are good for companies and clearly massive money makers, but I still consider their influence on gaming and game development to be overall a negative. "Free-to-play", loot boxes, microtransactions, all of that nonsense, while not originating on smartphones, is most widely associated with the format.
That's why I don't turn my nose up to mobile. Might not be for me but there are a lot of people that wouldn't get the chance to play games without it. More games for everyone.
Hopefully this means that a true/traditional Animal Crossing game is in development for Switch!
@Haywired: ROFL!! I enjoyed it too, but Nintendo made nada from me on it.
Gawd FE: Heroes takes up a lot of space on my phone and more with each subsequent update. It's likely surpassing Fates at this point in terms of size.
Still amazes me they took so long to tap this particular revenue vein
Nice to hear the Nintendo is doing well on mobile and in home consoles. As long as Nintendo's main focus is Switch & 3DS then in happy.
