Expecting nothing after the last direct, maybe we'll get even more Anime JRPGs and Free-to-Play Tournament shooters (Sigh). So anything else will be a happy surprise. I still think the (semi)Pro is being announced tomorrow, and hopefully some details on pro-enhanced games old or new.
As a massive Kirby fan who thought Planet Robobot was the pinnacle of the series, I was so disappointed with Star Allies. In 1 player it was just a confusing mess to play, it was irratating instead of enjoyable. Like Yoshis Crafted World, the new 'gimmick' just didn't really work.
@khululy I agree, the 2 Rayman games are brilliant. I'm not really into metroidvenia-esque games but I also loved Ori. My favorite platformer this year is Kaze and the Wild Masks, brilliant gameplay which harks back to the Original DK Country games.
The 2 Donkey Kong Retro games are the pinnacle of 2D platform games. I'd love to see EPD Tokyo make a new 2D DK to see where they'd go with it. But please keep the core gameplay mechanics!
Next must-purchase, I spent so many hours on the 2nd game back in the day on PS1. I have been holding out for this Switch port and resisted buying it for PS4.
Yet they basically made clones of New Super Mario Bros. DS for years, this excuse isn't valid. Nintendo hasn't released any new racing games for the Switch as far as I know? If you were a Wii U owner like me it's been slim pickings for original Nintendo content past couple of years. The last direct was mostly full of anime RPGs (like Scott the Woz I'm not into RPGs). Thank God for indie games, I'm loving their support on the Switch.
I got one of these last year, great bit of kit paired with a Gameboy SP modded with an IPS V2 screen. It's is very expensive and the EZ Flash is way cheaper but it drains GBAs battery nearly twice as fast.
@TheRenegade908 there is a 64 player Battle Royal Bomberman game on the way, free to play. Its called 'Bomberman R Online', it used to be a Stadia exclusive.
A complete Donkey Kong rip-off, only slower. But I'll probably still buy it as the 2 Donkey Kong reboot games are 2 of my my favorites ever. I don't mind the blatant 'homage' in this case.
@Kirgo exactly. The sprites and graphics are great on a technical level, but on a design level they look like every other generic platform game. Grass level, ice level, etc.. It reminds me of that old game Superfrog, another blandly designed game. Look at the first underwater screenshot in the review to prove my point.
Gameplay-wise, this looks great and I've pre-ordered it. Graphics-wise, it's bland and generic. I'm a bit puzzled NL praising it's graphics? Is it too hard to use a bit of unique art direction into these type of games instead of copying what's done before.
I've modded my Switch Lite with a transparent shell, looks great! And I've matching transparent joycons for my normal Switch. I'm all for transparent shells.
Imagine the next Mario Kart Game would be themed on this world tour concept, with tracks from all around the globe and a big character roster?(Like Smash). Be brilliant, here's hoping...!
So it seems we'll have 3 Splatoon games released since the last Mario Kart game, strange times. The direct focused a lot on Japanese fantasy/RPGs and Arena games, this seems to be norm these days. They're not my cup of tea, but it seems to be the direction the Switch market has headed.
I'll probably get this, but the courses look bland with garish colours, very surprised this is a Mario game. The Mario Golf game on 3DS had better art direction than this.
@Christofu yes it's just gone on so long it's painful. I purchased Mario Kart 8 on the day of release for Wii U, nearly 7 years ago! Crazy long time to wait for a new entry in the series.
Wow the Wii U speed looks pedestrian compared to the Switch Speed, and nice fast acceleration. I'll be playing this all the way through again on Switch, fantastic game.
