One of the first-party highlights of the latest Nintendo Direct was the reveal of Mario Golf: Super Rush.
This marks the return of the Mario Golf series, after quite some time. In fact, we haven't had an entry in the series since the 3DS title, dating back to 2014.
In Camelot's latest instalment, arriving on Switch on 25th June, you'll be able to enjoy golfing with familiar Mushroom Kingdom characters through a variety of lush and scenic courses.
The game will include both local and multiplayer modes and the highlight of the lot is Speed Golf.
In this mode, players tee off at the same time and race to the green. There's also a Story Mode - starring your Mii characters - yay, Mii are back. They'll interact with the Mushroom Kingdom characters, complete golf challenges and earn experience points to power-up stats.
To top it off, there are motion controls - allowing you to hold your Joy-Con controller as a golf club.

Pre-orders for Mario Golf: Super Rush are available now. Will you be adding this one to your collection? Tell us below.

I love the mario golf games on the 3ds so I will be picking this one up some time.
Looks very cool.
THIS IS VERY HYPE
Oh Camelot, when will we see a new Golden Sun rise again?
We're never getting Wii Sports on Switch, aren't we?
RIP Golden Sun. ='(
The only spherical object worth a monkeys in this direct.
Looking forward to buying it in a sale, playing it a few times and then going back to Mario Kart.
I didn't play the last couple Mario Golf games, but that Speed Golf mode looked super fun and I will definitely be picking this one up
I was recently considering getting Mario Golf World Tour on 3ds as it looks great but of course, I'll be getting Super Rush!
Mario Kart 8 DLC?
Super Mario Odyssey DLC?
Mario Kart 9?
Mario Strikers 3?
NAH
Lets have another mediocre follow up to everyone's least favorite Mario sports game.
I was hoping this get announced. But it honestly looked a bit like a low budget game. I expected Mario Kart / Aces graphics.
Still down for it.
Mario Golf has always been my favorite Mario Sports game. Love this series and I'm so happy to see it's finally in HD on the Switch. Looking forward to hearing more information about the game!
@Jakiboy hey look at that.
Another person that thinks his opinion is the world’s opinion.
One of the best games shown in a poor overall Direct.
The Mii story mode interests me the most!
Easily my favorite sport series, and a game I've been hoping for for four years. Very excited to take Princess Daisy out on the links.
Are the Mario Sports games actually worth the full price? I've only played the Mario and Sonic at the Olympics series. To me it seems like I'd be good just sticking with Wii Sports and the first two Olympics games.
I'm happy for anyone else who is excited though
Story mode is intriguing - best but about the GBC Mario golf game
Best 2021 announcement of the direct. I’m happy but kinda sad about the rest of the year.
Well, after the 2 Mario Tennis (And of its absence on the Wii U), yey, Finally a new Mario Golf, to see what surprises they will have in this version ^^
Love the Mario Golf series, just hope the story mode is a little meaty, these are literally the only golf games I ever play, something about throwing Nintendo items and elements just makes it super addicting for me.
I'm a little cautious after Mario Tennis Aces looked good pre-release then ended up being very mediocre but this does look pretty good... An actual proper RPG story mode this time?
Praying for lots of unlockables and customisation. The leveling system and skill points is great - something to work towards. Such a shame about the environments though.
@PapaMurphy, we get one thing you asked for! Now Sports Story next!
My favorite sport franchise. This was all I wanted from today's ND.
That speed golf mode looks like it could be really fun and hectic, especially if you can interfere with your opponents' shots.
@Friendly
So you would have another Mario Golf that would most likely be mediocre then any of the above I mentioned?
PFFFFFTTTTTT LOL
So excited for this! Looks fun
@Jakiboy Least Favorite?!?!? Speak for yourself. Truth be told, I’d equally love some MK8 dlc ( or a new entry for that matter ) but I love me some MarioGolf. Me and my homies freaked out for this announcement.
Very excited for this and glad to be wrong about the games being shown.
YES! Been waiting for it.
Looks like fun to me. Mario sports games have yet to let me down with multiplayer entertainment. I wonder if this game will support local wireless play. If it does then I'll definitely need 2 copies day 1.
@Jakiboy read again.
Am I saying that?
Pffffft LOL ROFLMAO WTFBBQ
@Jakiboy
Camelot has never worked on any of those Mario franchises and I don't see why they would now. While they've been working on the Mario Golf series since the N64 days.
Maybe if your concern was a new Golden Sun, your comment would be a valid concern
Oh, gosh... 😥
I'm really bad at playing golf games.
Oftenly got score positives (+1, +2, etc) everytime i play golf games.
Yup, I'm about ready for this one!
May need to see some more details about this since the last Mario sports games were not the best in my book.
Cool. I I skipped PGA 2K21 due to the large download (and always online requirement?). I absolutely loved the golf mode on 51 Worldwide Classics, as utterly barebones as it was.
I just hope they don't make DLC for this as they did for the 3DS installment, which put me right off from ever playing it again. This will probably be the first time I will hold off on buying a first party Switch title. Plus, I regretted buying Mario Tennis Open at launch, which was released in an unfinished state. I might hold out for a reprint with the update data already on it.
Sounds like a great Father’s Day gift (to myself)!
Mario Golf fan here. This is splendid news
This and strikers are best Mario sports games. So many hours on Mario golf on the gamecube... I got major hyped for this. My wife looked very puzzled.
This will be a day 1 for sure
Nice. This is a game that I like the idea of using motion controls.
This looks like a better version of Wii Sports golf with the Mario roster added in for extra fun. And a nice replacement for the loss of the Tiger Woods games on Wii.
no shot I'd ever pay $60 for this lol
Mario Golf games make great party/drinking games. Things can get super competitive in a full 18 hole course. You can adjust the rules depending on how sauced you want to get. I'm buying it asap and I'm sure my friends will as well.
Using motion controller as a club sounds interesting, theres this vr mini golf game I play on my occulus rift and feels great using the controller
I hope we get another mario party though to make up for the last one that I've heard isnt very good
This was my low point of the direct buuuuuut it lights a candle in my heart for a new strikers.
One of my favorite Nintendo franchises! I wonder if story mode will be as good as Mario Golf Advance?
Everything about the trailer looked incredibly boring. One of the worst announcements in the direct for me.
@Jakiboy those games you mentioned, zzzzz... total snorefest. Those can't replicate the gameplay here, we haven't had a Mario Golf on a home console since the Gamecube, and looks like it's made 1st party in-house this time, so it should be good. If you hate the franchise so much and expect it to turn out like crap, why did you even click the article, just to spoil everyone's fun? Maybe consider trying the game out before calling it mediocre, 1st party Nintendo rarely make mediocre games.
I have a feeling this will be GOTY for me. While I'm basically giving up on buying new games in the near future, this is a day one purchase for me. World Tour is one of my favourite games of all time, and this looks like a cross between that and Everybody's Golf (the latter of which I played last year and absolutely loved). Really, I just think that golf games are my favourite type of genre now. So relaxing.
Why is Yoshi always left out of costume parties these days? I am genuinely upset that they keep ditching him out of these things!! And yes I'm aware of Mario Kart Tour having some outfits for him. I guess if you can gamble for outfits he can get them. :/
...though the game does look nice, I'm absolutely going to get it.
All I want is a new strikers.
A game that I really wanted on Switch. The speed mode looks pretty cool.
@TheUltimateFaker They are indeed charging full price for this Mario Golf like they sadly did for Mario Tennis too.
If these were released on Wii U, none of them would be full priced.
I love golf games even though I don’t like golfing in real life.
I'm not really a sports guy (outside of NHL hockey), however, Mario sports titles aren't typical sports games, so I'll probably end up picking this up at some point.
I was holding out for Strikers but I’ll take this absolutely.
They basically took Wii Sports golf, which I was obsessed with, and slapped Mario on it. That being said, unless this totally bombs every review I'll be picking it up. I'd like to see a little more but if its Wii Sports golf+ set in Mushroom Kingdom I'll be happy. Also, can we get Wii Sports on Switch yet or......?
I think this could be good. I think Speed Golf could be a great mode, and I do like motion controls...The environments I saw though killed nearly any excitement I had. I was wondering if any of them were Super Mario themed, and I noticed the desert course was themed around World 2 of NSMBU. Are they not allowed to do a desert course inspired by Super Mario Odyssey's Sand Kingdom and Tostarena? I skipped Mario Tennis Aces for looking too basic with its courts and that may happen again here with these course designs. If they have more visually creative course designs to show later, this will be a must have.
@Yorumi
Ya the course (courses?) shown looked pretty barren and a little too realistic for Mario Golf.
Hopefully there are some weird ones, and classics from the N64.
multiplayer is gonna be wicked I can't wait for this
The golden sun will rise again some day.
It’s a Mario. It’s a day 1
The only game that excited me from this Direct.
Can't wait last one i played was on the gamecube years ago.
I love the mario golf series it will be fun playing mario golf again.
What's up NLife!?!? My first post here. Long time lurker here, and also an active member over on pushsquare. Just got back into the Nintendo world this past December when I picked up a switch lite! Last nintendo console I owned was either a gba sp or a gamecube haha, can't remember. Anyways....
This was the highlight of this direct for me!!
Awesome!!! I just hope we get wacky courses, because this looks like a PGA golf course with Mario characters on it. Which, don't get me wrong, I like that as sometimes I don't want the wacky courses. I just hope we get a nice mixture of both.
Mario Golf is one of those things you're happy to see get a new entry, but not something you'll probably buy.
Speed golf mode looks so much fun. Looking forward to it
Hell yes. I’m all about this
Been waiting years for this.
Unless something really bad is revealed about it before launch, Day 1, absolutely.
@TheUltimateFaker
In my opinion the golf games are but not the tennis games. I haven't played the others.
Good news I love Mario Golf on 3DS. Hoping for Mario Sports Superstar ported to Switch soon.. or better yet, Wii Sport.
@Yosher I have a question for you. Feel free to ignore it if it makes you uncomfortable. Here goes:
... are you a boy or a girl?
You have a male name, and you definitely have a male-sized appetite. - but you lay eggs. I mean, it doesn't matter, I enjoy your games. Just curious...
Mario Tennis Aces intrigued me, but it was overpriced in my personal estimation. However! The appearance of Chain Chomp strongly tempted me.
I do not see Chacho here, NCL. My video game dollars are safe and snug in my pocket. They can wait. Can you?
@COVIDberry Ex..cuse me? Are you high on Direct fumes?
@Yosher So it's a sensitive question. Very well. Carry on, then.
This was legit the only 'realistic' thing I wanted to see in the Direct, so I am very happy. Kinda sad when I have to dial back my expectations to the point where Mario Golf is all I hope for these days, at least until Nintendo starts dropping some of the things their fanbase has been craving for decades. We probably won't be getting a new Star Fox (or Strikers and F-Zero for that matter) ever again so I keep my expectations lower than the Wii U sales figures.
Odd as it is... I want Mario Strikers back!!!
Mario does Golf. Tennis. Racing.
Heck even the Olympics. It's time to go back to soccer!!!
heheheh
One of those games I never want to spend the money on but ultimately glad I did.
RIP Golden Sun
Better make the fifth Mario Sports game in a row right?
I love without qualification every MarioGolf game. I am so excited.
@GoldenSunRM @Harmonie Golden Sun on DS was just bad, I don't know how much it sold but I don't think it was enough.
@Bizaster Miis were never really gone.
@Elroy_B Yes, I also want a new Mario Strikers.
And about the game, I liked other Mario Golf games. So, I'll be picking this up.
Looking forward to this one. Ive wanted a new MG game since the WiiU got skipped. Loved it on the cube and N64. Lets hope they add more content and game modes and a better story mode than they did in Mario Tennis.
Nice to see it back. Not a golf fan, but golf games often are more fun than you think.
I played speed golf online in everybody’s golf (which shares some of its camelot dna with mario golf) and that’s nicely chaotic
Hope the story mode is a bit beefed up, becsuse that was great on the gba version but lacked on 3ds
The Mario Golf announcement was both the best of the direct and the directs main saving grace. For a 50 minute presentation it was maybe the least interesting selection of game possible - Mario Golf was the only real standout - maybe a few more semi-standouts.
As with Mario Tennis, this doesn't look like it takes place in Mario's world. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it loses some charm.
The rush mode seems like A LOT of fun and it might be the sole reason to get this game
@HotGoomba,
At this point I very much doubt it, this new game has the golf covered and bowling is included the 51 Worldwide games package, who knows perhaps Wii U sports club did not have that much of a take up.
I literally roared when this announcement suddenly showed up. I didn't expect it at all, and yet I wanted it so bad. Have loads of awesome memories with the gamecube version, and the 3DS as well. Just hope they won't limited the multiplayer to 'a switch per person'... which I fear they most likely will.
I'll probably get this, but the courses look bland with garish colours, very surprised this is a Mario game. The Mario Golf game on 3DS had better art direction than this.
@Tandy255 ahhhh mate, I was buzzing when I seen this last night. The major thing I wanted, boom, I'm getting it. Unreal hahaha. Day 1, of course 😀👍
Very impressed with the direct, there was loads to like, several others tickled my fancy too.
No worries on Sports Story, that'll be on an indie direct soon.
Have a fabulous day pal.
@Jakiboy,
I like Mario golf games though, nice reveal as far as I was concerned.
@nmanifold,
Like the more realistic look to be honest, and at the moment we have seen very little, so too early to judge in my opinion.
Finally my answers! I've been awaiting a new Mario Golf for consoles!!!! It's been since Gamecube era for a console release, and finally!!!! I still had questions about why it wasn't released on Wii, especially with the motion controls, but finally!!!! Something I'll gladly pay $60 for too!!!! Hopefully it lives up to it's hype. I've been in love with the Mario Golf series since playing it on N64 (and always getting frustrated and wanting to throw the controller). Loved the Gamecube version, so hopefully, this is just as good!!!!
@sanderev Golden Sun Dark Dawn was not bad enough to kill the series. I think that the series is more a victim of strange development timing
Golden Sun and its sequel The Lost Age were both high sellers on the GBA. The series was really set up for success. But...then instead of following up on that success, the series vanished for over seven years, only to return on the then waning console, the DS.
It was just mishandled, I think. It's really sad to see.
@Harmonie True, but the story of the DS games went from "meh" at the beginning to plain bad after the first half. It's the only Golden Sun game I actually never finished. And since it's very much a single story based IP I just don't see them ever coming back from it.
Not unless they completely reboot the story.
Or something like a "Golden Sun 2" with a completely new story and world based off mechanics of the old games. (Like Final Fantasy does, and now Bravely Default 2)
@Jakiboy Do you get paid by the hour to make a complete ass of yourself?
@Donkey-Kong-Fan
No, just like to screw with morons~
