The game industry really is broken when one game can kill a studio. I have a friend who worked on a big title and was laid off as soon as the game was released.
I didyn't understand why this game forces analogue stick usage. The controls are on a 2D plane and the player has to use an extra button to walk so there's literally no reason to use the analogue stick. It's clear that no one understands the usage case for dpad vs analogue stick. I wish more reviewers covered this. It would save me money and frustration.
I like this style but prefer it for newer games. Triangle Strategy is amazing. A lot of the older games still look great. Chrono Trigger is perfect and doesn't need a visual upgrade. FFVI doesn't need a remake either.
I never even try to 100% games. I enjoy this side quest until the game is done and then I move on. I find the required side quests much worse. The first time I played Link's Awakening, I missed a trade and it halted the whole game.
I'm not excited about a Switch 2. I really like the Switch but I'm more into retro games these days. I've done a lot of contemplating recently, and have realized that I haven't lived a Zelda game since Minish Cap. I like A Link Between Works, but I wouldn't say I love it. Zelda was my favorite Nintendo series but it clearly hasn't impressed me in a long time. I'm pretty skeptical that I'm buying a new console anytime soon.
Another thing is fix: there's no reason to use analogue controls in a 2D game. Frequently, my summons don't appear exactly where I want them to because of the analogue controls.
I'd have fewer echoes, maybe one earned in each dungeon and give Zelda direct combat abilities. I would rather play as Sheik than constantly manage indirect combat.
They're all really interesting games! 90s Capcom is the best Capcom. My favorite is X-Men vs Street Fighter. It's fun and ridiculous and not as overwhelming as MvC2. I'm also really fascinated by the deeper mechanics of MSH.
Both NA and Japan have great covers but I have to give it to North America. The design of that cover is amazing. The movement through the image is beautiful. It's more designed than the others and that speaks to me as a designer.
I bought this instantly. Online is great and there were a lot of players on last night. It's an interesting game for sure and I'm enjoying it. I get the complaint about the price but Fighting games without online play are a waste of money for me. I own a lot of the ACA games but don't play them because there's no online.
I'm both excited and nervous about this game. This will define whether I'm still a fan of this series or not. I love most of the Zelda games until BotW. There were misses for sure before that game but it marks a completely new direction for the series. If Echoes flops for me, I'm likely some with Nintendo games, sadly.
@Yoshif3 I didn't agree. Aonoma was messing with the formula as far back as Majora's Mask. ALBW want so popular that it would push the team out of the old formula. If it wasa huge success, the formula would have become untouchable. It seems that all of the hidden temples in Wind Waker were a preamble to the approach of the item works games.
I liked that ALBW did away with the sequence to a degree but kept the interesting dungeons and boss battles. BotW and TotK both had terrible boss battles and no real dungeons.
I'm truly sad that A Link Between Worlds isn't the modern formula. It takes the best of classic 2D Zelda and adds in some more modern elements for a truly great experience. If they added in the combat from Minish Cap, they'd have a spectacular formula. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll buy any more Nintendo hardware. They've been my hardware of choice for the durability and their games. I find that I'm not enjoying their games as much as I used to. My main series was Zelda until BotW and TotK. Those games really fail my tastes.
Persona 5 is the worst for running too long. I skipped as much as possible and still ended up around 90 hours. I beat P3 in less than 60 hours and that was pretty good. Chrono Trigger, as stated, is the gold standard for RPGs. Most classic Zelda games - specifically A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, and Minish Cap - are good lengths.
Games getting too long are part of the reason I love old school arcade games. Those can be finished in an hour or less and fighting games are satisfying a few minutes per day, pressing to huge amounts of time over a long period. Ultra Street Fighter II is one of my most played Switch games all these years later.
Honestly, as much as I love the Zelda games, none have filled me with a sense of wonder since The Minish Cap. LttP did as my first Zelda; Ocarina did as the first 3d world; Minish Cap's feeling is scale is amazing.
I have a seafoam green and it is indeed lovely. The XL cramped my hands whereas the 2DS was super comfortable. It has an amazing d-pad. The only other console I own from the 3DS family is a New 3DS from Japan - the small one.
This is why I don't like realistic graphics. They're boring and don't scale well. Dragon Ball Fighterz like slightly better in PC but it's mostly in background detail. The MK games look terrible on Switch.
@ndunsmo Mischief Makers is the reason I bought an N64 after my PlayStation drive went out. And the first Mystical Ninja game is amazing. Those are some of my tops from the system. Maybe they'll give us Bangai-Oh!
I love the Neo Geo games. I always get excited for new titles in the series but they always let me down due to the guide line. It's fine for the first few puzzles but a large part of thev appeal of the game is the skill to make shots without guides.
It doesn't hold a candle to A Link to the Past's opening. The way Link's walking kicked up puddles from the soaked ground still gives me goosebumps. The way Ocarina of Time dropped you into the action within minutes is also high on my favorite openings. Tears of the Kingdom didn't feel very epic to me.
Regardless of how Zelda BotW is, I just found it bland. I like when bosses are puzzles; that's why I love Mega Man X and Zelda games. BotW had united boss battles and the game just felt tedious to me. It seems that this is the series new path and not one I'm particularly interested in. Zelda is the series that's kept me in Nintendo platforms so I'm not sure what the future holds in that regard.
@rjejr My first Nintendo console was the SNES. I bought the Zelda pack with LttP for $90 with a mail in for Supper Mario All Stars. I picked up Mega Man X and Players Choice Super Metroid for $20 each.
Persona 3 is my favorite Persona game, hands down. P4 took forever to get started whereas P3 kicked in gear quickly. The P3 cast feels somewhat unique whereas P4 is Scooby Doo and P5 is Lupin.

@mickholohan In the U.S., there is. I'm not sure about Europe.

Are the controls digital or analogue? That's a make it break for 2d games for me.

Re: Super Mario World Lego Set Revealed, Here's A First Look
This is pretty tempting even though I'm not a big Mario fan. If they do LttP, with pink hair, I'm definitely in for that.

I was able to see this a few months back at the Portland Retro Game Show. It's a really great exhibit.

Minish Cap and my daily grind of Street Fighter 6 on Steam.

I'd be more excited if I didn't just buy all of these games on Steam for $5 last weekend.
Re: Random: Some Square Enix Staff Really Want A Final Fantasy VI Remake
It will never measure up to the original, honestly. There's no reason beyond the recent pixel remaster.

@Ade117 P3 is a more simple, streamlined game than P5R.
Re: Review: Persona 3 Portable - A Fine Series Entry, Though One That's Tough To Return To
Persona 3 is my favorite Persona game, hands down. P4 took forever to get started whereas P3 kicked in gear quickly. The P3 cast feels somewhat unique whereas P4 is Scooby Doo and P5 is Lupin.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Name Your Pokémon?
Ever since the original, I name the first Geodude I catch TheROCK. All others keep their names.
Re: Fire Emblem Engage Continues To Look Stunning In New Gameplay Clips
This one looks pretty good but I haven't found Fire Emblem stunning since the GBA games. That pegasus knight animation is so amazing.
Re: We're Getting A New Four-Player 'Puzzle Bobble' Exclusively On Switch Next Year
I just hope the guide isn't permanent. Building the skill to land perfect shots is so satisfying.
Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Legend Of Zelda Game?
I'm old so A Link to the Past is my answer. It was packed in with the SNES and blew my mind. I do remember thinking it was too easy at the time.
