Re: Round Up: EVO 2022 - Every Nintendo Switch Announcement & More

Honestly, people need to acknowledge that rollback is NOT the end all, be all. Street Fighter 30th has it and it's awful; Capcom Fighting Collection has it and it's not great. Cross Tag and Power Rangers have some of the best online I've played, full stop. I've been told that Switch Samurai Shodown had better netcode than the other versions. Persona 4 Arena has really good online play on Switch.

If you want the best experiences with online fighting games, you've got to have a wired connection. Full stop, no excuses. The best netcode is only as good as the weakest link in the connection.

@XBontendo I agree completely. The combat was more polished but at some point, it just became joyless. The original will always be a high watermark for me so anything beyond that is icing. I had fun with TSA but it's not nearly as good as the original.

@MsJubilee The first two are on Switch. The physical releases were handled by Limited Run and it's also on the eShop.

Re: Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Won't Be Getting An Important Online Upgrade On Switch

First, this is clearly not ideal. The Switch port should get the same upgrades as the other versions. That said, it's about the implementation on the online play rather than the type of code used. Rollback is great when properly implemented. Delay-based code can also be good, if implemented properly. I play a lot of fighting games online on Switch and the best experiences I've had were on delay-based systems.

I am playing on a wired connection using the Hori adapter. My internet connection is fast (100mbits down/40 mbits up). Here are my results:

BlazBlue Cross Tag (delay-based by Arc System Works) - Hands down the best online on the system. I've played something like 2000 matches with maybe 10 bad connections.

Samurai Shodown (delay-based) - Second place. I've played hundreds of games and only had a few bad connections. When they're bad, they're terrible.

Dragon Ball Fighterz (delay-based code by Namco) - Pretty bad. Nearly half of my matches were terrible so I stopped playing the game.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary (Rollback by Digital Eclipse) - Bad on all games. I rarely play this online because it's so annoying.

Ultra Street Fighter II (Delay-based by Capcom) - Terrible. I played it a lot online when it came out because there was no alternative on the system. They should have used GGPO like HD Remix did.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Switch Game Of 2021? It's Time To Rate Your Favourites

I was mostly let down by games this year. Metroid Dread's control scheme really sucked. I'll never understand using analogue controls for 2D games that require the precision of a d-pad. No More Heroes III wasn't very good. The combat was better than the first game but it felt pale in comparison. SMTV drove home that these games are not for me. R-Type Final II is pretty good and maybe my favorite 2021 game by default. I'm getting Super Robot Wars 30 in today so maybe that will hook me. The Deedlit game is coming next week and that one might also do it.

Re: Talking Point: A Nintendo Direct With Something For Everyone, And Quite A Few Surprises

@Meteoroid I was surprised that they didn't even mention it as an upcoming game. It's clear that this series has pretty much been abandoned by Nintendo as the last game in the series came out on the DS as a U.S. exclusive. I was hoping that they'd push the game a little bit so that maybe we'd get a new entry. Metroid has gotten non-stop coverage since its announcement 3 months ago while AW is ignored. It's Nintendo's choice in how they want to market a game but they don't seem too concerned about the series' future.
