I have Galaxy 1 as part of 3D All-Stars. I’ll buy Galaxy 2 when it’s on a sale. It won’t ever be substantially discounted, but a typical 1/3 off discount (as is wont to happen with first party Nintendo games) would be enough for me to bite.
I’m just disappointed that the subtitle wasn’t “the Alarmo is ticking” …
However! I’d like to see:
1. A new 3D Mario 2. The Twilight Princess remaster 3. Some additional info about backwards compatibility eg whether existing games get a natural improvement or not, even if this was described more generally.
MK9, which is the obvious choice. Also, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Plus 2 is a bit of a mouthful.
Aside from the potential 24 cart races / battles, why not incorporate a 'build your own course' function into the game? After this number of releases, there's fewer new features / gimmicks one can add that make them meaningful inclusions. So why not Mario Kart Maker?
I think this is a non-issue. Some games lend themselves to certain art styles compared to others. If every game, from DOOM to FIFA (or whatever it’s called) was in HD-2D, then there’s a problem.
Let’s enjoy the diversity of graphical styles, including this one
I really enjoyed this on the GC, also not completing it. I've since bought the PS2-skinned version for the PS4, but I'd double-dip IF it wasn't borked upon release like the Battlefront Classics were
On Switch, I’ve just started Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, unbelievably for the first time (I also had it, also unplayed, on PS3 via PS+) and I’m continuing along blowing things up in Just Cause 2 on PS3.
Merry Christmas, everyone! I’ll get some SMB Wonder time in, before I embark on cooking Christmas Lunch (which will be a greater challenge than Wonder I can tell you lol).
I have the “HD” version on PS3 and whilst I want to enjoy it, the camera and controls are too cumbersome for me (even if they were the norm in the PS2 world). So if controls and cameras are more aligned to modern ways of gaming then I’d add this to the ‘definitely buy’ list.
@McBurn thank you for sharing! The posts make interesting reading; I've enjoyed reading developer insights since like forever, and the ones in the link certainly aren't anything particularly negative about the company, it's people or behaviours.
"Rockstar mystique" as a concept is not legally enforceable. A perpetual NDA / confidentiality clauses in contracts are, however.
But it looks like Obbe took the sensible route, and one which I guess gives him the least amount of grief, especially if lawyers have been or threatened to be involved. (this I am speculating on, there's no evidence either way).
Still; this action imposed by Rockstar sullies their reputation more than the articles would ever do.
I liked the little touch that they included, with the coins and the Mario silhouette, however placing that at the back of the dock isn't going to get much "view time". However, as a Lite-only owner, I'm waiting for the Super Switch 2 to be released before I get one with a Dock ...
to be honest, I preferred these in their Speccy incarnations. I can see why the C64 versions have been included, as ownership of the ZX machine ROMs are trickier to pin down.
Personally, other than Mutant Monty, they're all decent, with Monty not being related to any of the Mole-featured games!
Like SpringDivorce said above, if this is ~£5 then aye, go on. Any more and no. I already have the Speccy versions to hand!
Interesting. The key word here, relating to the Unreal Engine 5 demo is comparable. That word doesn't mean "exactly the same". I'm expecting that, when looking at the specs of the hypothetical new device against the PS5/XBSX, it's a decent match. The anonymous sources are not saying this is pixel perfect and resolution identical to any currently released console.
There'll be a bit of hyperbole and excitement, as is to be expected. My own thoughts are that it's reasonable to assume that the handheld version will output graphics to something similar to a PS4. Given the small screen estate compared to a regular home tv, it should generally look better than current Switch and ideally look better again on the tv. I like the idea of the dock having some extra hardware to give the tv-output some additional sheen and prettiness.
I'm not expecting a super powerhouse "beating PS5 4K+raytracing" machine. But a definite upgrade from the current Switch.
And backwards compatible with digital + physical purchases and NSO please!
bought it yesterday, for Switch. Seems like the ideal candidate for play, in handheld mode (and then in tv mode if the mood takes you). Wanted to support the devs directly than acquire via a sub, but obviously the devs will have been paid for it going onto GP or PS+ as well. A win, especially with this being such a good game
it does say something when your current machine has outsold your previous one by over 113million units! I'm sure when the Switch 2 is released, there will be price cuts etc for the Switch 1, so that will increase total unit sales as well.
But for now, more info on your Switch successor please, Nintendo!
Upgraded internal tech will make Super Switch 2 Pro (aka "the next one") more favourable to third-party developers. Whilst many people clamour for Nintendo's 1st party output as their only reason for getting a ninty machine, and rightly so, I'd expect Nintendo to want to repeat the Switch success and not the Wii U's effective desert-like feeling of games releases.
A more powerful unit would help reduce pop-up, make a handheld version less "smudged", smoother frame rates etc for ports, never mind first-party games.
@Ooyah yeah - I remember reading about it in the computer mags of the day and drooling. I’m still tempted to get the mini, even though I’ve got way too many consoles and games to ever play!
I’d just like this to be released in the Hamster’s Arcade Archives series, rather than a remake or equivalent. I’d also like to see Rainbow Islands in its original form, but I believe there are licensing issues with the music which is preventing it being released. And I loved the Amiga and Speccy versions!
So, with two PS360 games and a PS4-XBone game, I’m hopeful that the latter will work out as well as it did on the PS4 at least. I am expecting the first two games to translate well. I love and have played those Batman games (and PS3 Batman Arkham Origins / Oranges ) and would love to have them in handheld mode on the Switch in the same way I love playing Assassins Creed in that fashion.
It’s not my first rodeo with these games and economically, why should I double dip, but I’m very tempted to buy this and play them in handheld mode IF they all run okay.
@-wc- yeah me too. I got into gaming in 1982 and there have been many qualitatively better years for me - and the wider industry - than then!
As someone who rarely buys 'day one' (or even 'day 30') new releases, when a game comes out and when I play it can be years apart, so answering this type of poll is difficult for me.
I'm just glad there's been many years of great releases across many different formats!
Does anyone know if there are any differences of note between playing docked and in handheld mode? As a Lite-only owner, this is something I'd want to know as I'm quite keen to buy ...
Interesting. Was expecting mostly gaming with some ‘lifestyle’ questions to satisfy the advertisers. I was amused by the car descriptions; they were definitely using more US terms, as I have what is considered to be a ‘compact car’ and that option wasn’t there, but a SUV was! Appreciate the survey is for multiple sites, not just NL, but it amused me.
I only just got in the age range too! Although not the last one (that’s in a couple of years 😱).
@Realness totally agree! I hit 48 this September, started at aged 8 and have no intentions on stopping ! The Switch is a great machine and it sits proudly amongst my other machines
It’s good value for me. I separately bought the AC dlc but I’ve enjoyed the Mario kart courses and getting them part of the expansion pack. I’ve only ever played Mario 64 on a real N64, so the other library of N64 games there is worth it for me. The Megadrive collection is an afterthought, but a couple of games I’ve not got elsewhere help.
I’d really like to see Nintendo committing to adding GB/GBC/GBA games to the service, launching / with a good selection of games for each machine - and then maintaining it.
Interestingly, all three packs are on sale in the uk eShop, so if you buy them now, it’s £41.97, somewhat cheaper than the £100! I have just bought the Ezio collection as I was waiting for it to be on sale as I couldn’t justify a £45 price point.
I enjoyed the first one on the GC back in the day, so I’d quite like to play that again plus the sequel for the first time. I can’t really justify paying full price for both, but if there was a bundle at £25 I’d probably dip. Or wait until they’re on sale at the equivalent price.
@LeChuck I also had Puzznic as well which was also good fun. Those two plus Pang came out about the same time for home computers so I had a triple P release situation happening … 😬
I sunk 95 hours into my first game (on the Vita); it took a little while to get into it, but when I did, I so did 😊 I will get around to trying another landscape style and playing from a different approach. Being able to spend 10 mins or a couple of hours really helps, especially playing on a handheld.
I may even double dip as the Switch version got further updates compared to the Vita
I played many (many) Ocean games on my Spectrum - which was a computer, not a console. After a shaky start, Ocean games on the the Speccy were often seen as a sign of quality. The later arcade conversions, like Rainbow Islands, Chase HQ, Pang, Operation Thunderbolt, (plus more!) were brilliant.
Ocean's foray into 16 bit computers and consoles was somewhat inconsistent. It's a shame the label isn't around now, doing what they did best.
And more importantly, it's a sad day to find out of Mr Ward's passing. Enjoying playing Ocean games will be a fond memory for me and no doubt many others too. A good legacy to have.
I was so thrilled to get this for the Wii back in the day, as all I wanted to do with the wiimotes was pretend I was a Jedi and swinging a lightsaber. The feeling didn’t last too long though …
However! I re bought both tFU’s for the PS3 some years later and enjoyed those versions immensely, so I can’t see myself getting this version for my Lite, as I can’t even properly do the “swinging a lightsaber” bit with a joycon.
A little too late in the day for this release, perhaps?
The irony is, after having quite descriptive and useful folders on my PS3 & PS4, I got used to having just the most recently played games immediately showing on the switch & PS5. So I’m happy to continue, especially as you can’t pin folders to the main screen.
The only folder I created was a ‘retro’ one, and then decided not to bother after that. Alphabetical order works for me (and I’ve got about 50 games installed, so manageable)
I quite like the sound of Arceus. I’ve never played a ‘normal’ Pokémon game since last week, and I thought I’d try the first; literally Red on the gameboy. It’s also good fun so far.
For me, whilst I’ve had a vague interest in the series, the latest games seem so steeped in lore, backstory and franchise history and seems to me as being a bit off putting if I’ve not played at least one or two.
So Red - and it looks like Arceus will be, too - seems to be the start of this journey. Only 25 years late!
Oh dear. Another company to avoid buying their games from.
I’ve adjusted a small part of what the founder said, to reflect my own personal thoughts:
“The unwanted trend of producing games based on blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens is more and more commonly despised as a mechanism for gauging our customers.
Nevertheless, we are desperately looking at other ways to increase our profit from these poorly-valued tools and can’t wait to gauge our customers.”

I have Galaxy 1 as part of 3D All-Stars. I’ll buy Galaxy 2 when it’s on a sale. It won’t ever be substantially discounted, but a typical 1/3 off discount (as is wont to happen with first party Nintendo games) would be enough for me to bite.

Re: 'The Knightling' Takes Inspiration From 3D Zelda In A Promising Debut Trailer
@Ladasta I shall take your word for that as I’ve never played Fable! There’s no hope for me, I know …
Re: 'The Knightling' Takes Inspiration From 3D Zelda In A Promising Debut Trailer
trailer was fun; full of character and feels a bit Looney Tunes inspired. Was half expecting the protagonist to be Daffy Duck.
Game play does look pleasingly familiar, but will wait closer to release time before committing to a purchase.
As I'm wanting to upgrade to a Switch 2 in 2025, there may be some competition for my spending!

Re: Poll: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Is Out Today On Switch, Will You Be Getting It?
It’s a definite no from me. Game streaming as one component of a subscription service can work, but not this ‘pay full price per game’ model.
Stadia tried the latter and we all know how successful that was.
