Today marks the release of A Plague Tale: Requiem across multiple platforms. Like the original rat-filled adventure A Plague Tale: Innocence, this is another cloud release on the Nintendo Switch.
Unfortunately, it's not just a rental offer, either. If you want to play through the full game on Nintendo's hybrid system you'll need to fork out $59.99 USD or your regional equivalent. In terms of the installation, you will have to first install the app, which takes up around 59MB of space, and then test out the experience.
These games obviously aren't the first cloud games to be released on Nintendo Switch. Square Enix released the entire Kingdom Hearts series via the Cloud on Switch, and other games like Control and certain Resident Evil entries have also made their way across to the system this way.
So, will you be playing A Plague Tale: Requiem on Switch? Vote in our poll and comment below.

Colour me surprised that some people actually consider buying cloud versions of games on the Switch.
Meanwhile, you can now buy it DRM-free on PC and own it forever and back it up any way that you like.
My internet connection is so bad it can't even load an NES game! 😂
Honestly even owning a Series S and having a Gamepass subscription I still have zero intention of giving it a look.
I’m a sucker for certain things but at least I’m smart enough to not get involved/tango with cloud versions of games.
No way, no how.
My wife played the first on PS5 and so that’s where the game will get played if anywhere. First one looked cool and the game itself doesn’t deserve to get pooped on. It’s the cloud that needs get the business end of the butt.
I'd consider FF7 Remake: Cloud Version. See what I did there?
@garfreek : Fun fact: Super Mario Bros. on NES is so small that it only contains about as much data as your comment copy/pasted 462 times, or this comment 196 times.
Cloud version throws away all interest so thats an obvious no.
I will try it out if it has a demo.
Does this even need to be a question? (And yeah before people tell me “Yes because people have opinions” or what not, I know that)
Uh, no thanks. Cloud versions are the biggest waste of money. Never going to bother ever getting cloud versions of any game. If I really want to play the games I'll get the non cloud version elsewhere, but that hasn't happened yet.
Cool for those whole 5 people into cloud gaming though.
@Silly_G Thanks! I need to copy and paste this to my worthless internet provider then!! 😂
@Thomystic I'll have a stab at the Aerith expansion, heard it had a bit more life in it this time around! 😂
I will be playing it on PC or Series X (GamePass). I have 0 interest in a "cloud" version.
I don’t have any other system, but I’m not really interested in the came anyway.
The only way I would play any cloud game would be if it was free. They did little to no work beyond button mapping. It's not native to the console so it's basically an always online f2p game to me.
Only if they do a physical version of the cloud version.
I wonder if nintendo should offer a cloud service like xcloud. Instead of buying the games individually you just subscribe and have all cloud games available to you.
Funny thing is, cloud gaming actually works GREAT on PlayStation. I just finished the first Sly Cooper game on my PS5, and it was almost flawless. Felt like I was playing it natively, with the exception of scarce instances of lag that just felt like the game was losing frames for a couple seconds. It only happened maybe once or twice per play session.
Compare that to when I tried the Kingdom Hearts demo on Switch, which was the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Massive input delays, resolution drops to 240p or less, Sora running around aimlessly despite my thumb not even touching the analog, consistently choppy frame rate, notifications that I was about to be disconnected from my play session... And this was all within a span of 10 minutes or less. Again, I was able to beat the entirety of Sly Cooper with almost no hiccups.
Now that Nintendo has a price plan of $50/year, there's really no room for excuses anymore. Not that there was much room to begin with.
How about no.gif lol
If I didn't have access to it on Xbox I'd have no problem going for the cloud version. Have bought previous cloud versions of games on Switch and they've worked well.
Even if I had a decent Internet connection to support cloud gaming I still won't support it on principal.
How can it still be profitable to release cloud gaming titles on switch?? I can't imagine enough people are buying this stuff.
Certainly not. I don't have the means to play it and I don't even have enough faith in the trend to check the demo in futile hope that they would ever consider adjustable resolutions at all, let alone the 480p my phone hotspot can comfortably stream. For most such services, the cloud version is seen as the way to ignore the target platform specs completely and thus flex all the wall carpet graphics they put out on home consoles and desktops.😏
I'm playing it on my Series X thru Gamepass. So far so good and it looks amazing! I'll probably buy a physical copy for PS5 soon, before it becomes difficult to find like Innocence is for some reason...
@Dr_Luigi The online infrastructure does, though, doesn't it?
I have a PS5 and Series X for this very reason.
Love my Nintendo for 1st party, everything else is on the others.
It's unfortunate that Nintendo hasn't even attempted to compete, from a power standpoint, since GameCube.
It’s a definite no from me. Game streaming as one component of a subscription service can work, but not this ‘pay full price per game’ model.
Stadia tried the latter and we all know how successful that was.
On Stadia? Oh right, cloud gaming defined.
@Dr_Luigi That might be your expereince but it's not everyones. I've been playing cloud games for almost 3 years now with no issues. Does that mean everyones experience will be good like mine? No.
@michaelf Stadia technology worked really well. It was Google themselves that was the problem there.
@blockfight oh I agree that the tech wasn’t the issue. Other factors, including Google themselves, caused Stadia to fail.
@Dr_Luigi They've got it good enough that I dont notice it to be honest. I play on xCloud regularly with no issues.
For switch i want games that actually fits on a disk.
Original games or retro games brought new life on the switch. Like Square enix is doing with Octopath traveler those are games i only want to play on my switch or on a steamdeck.
Not interested in Cloud Versions. Heck, not even interested in playing this on PS5, should be 60fps, not 30.
@Varkster Well, all I own is a Nintendo Switch, so there’s that.
Yeah…..I’ll rather just download on Gamepass
No, cloud versions should only be a supplement to an existing purchase, possibly supported by subscriptions such as Game Pass.
No, I just played through Final Fantasy 7 Remake again recently.
More than enough Cloud for a while
I treasure physical game and therefor avoid Cloud gaming like the plague.
Can't wait to start it today! But yes of course I won't be playing the cloud version. PS5 for me.
Its included on Game Pass for one thing. For another, why would I spend money on a game that only lives in the cloud and can be turned off at any time for any reason? No thanks
I wasnt interested in the game before I knew it was cloud based, getting persona5 this week... so I will be busy
Not interested in the game but wouldn't buy the cloud version even if I was.
Less rights than even a digital purchase? No thanks.
I feel bad for the people who don't know the difference between owning digitally and cloud.
i'm sort of okay with cloud gaming but paying a one-off price is objectively madness. what happens when they take the servers down? are they going to give all the money back, stadia style?
such a shame that cloud versions aren't included with nintendo switch online - might make it worthwhile to get it/play them.
Why sure, let me be an intelligent gamer and throw away my hard-earned cash to support this perfectly fine industry practice where the consumer is obviously the company's top priority and definitely not money. This practice should absolutely be the norm, because consumers should recognize that they have no right to own what they purchase. You know what? Never mind cash. Have one of my kidneys.
Been meaning to check this out for awhile, but a cloud version? No thank you.
I might be interested if the cloud version on Switch actually worked well. I've played cloud versions of games on my phone and PC that work well (enough). I haven't played one cloud version of a game on the Switch that hasn't had serious, gameplay-breaking issues. Cloud versions of games on the Switch will always be a no for me until the implementation on Switch is improved.
@garfreek
I told you not to move to the Galápagos Islands but you wouldn’t listen.
I'm not totally against cloud gaming; but I don't think it's where it needs to be yet to start charging full price.
I think people have a delusional concept of owning things forever. Funny thing happens when you buy stuff “to own forever”: it ends up owning you. All things are transient.
Played the first on PS4 Pro, I’ll be getting this for Switch Cloud. I played Control on Switch Cloud and for maybe 30 seconds of the 30 hours I spent with that game I had issues that let me know I was using the Cloud.
The Village demo ran great. I have no problem with the cloud. It’s better than buying hardware I don’t want. I’m holding out for the next from Nintendo. I just don’t want to be on Sony or MS machines.
I have never had problems streaming. So for me having the option to play some games I really wanted without getting new hardware is more than worth it. I really enjoyed the first Plague Tale so I was looking forward to this. When I do get new hardware one day, I’ll probably play it again if I like it.
Who buys cloud versions of games? I can't believe they are still making them for switch.
Stadia is going to close and Nintendo still makes the same mistakes as Google with their cloud games. The only way to go with Cloud games are in a service as Gamepass or PSNow, where you choose if you want it as a Cloud game or to install it.
Can't "get" something they won't let you own.
Nope, already tried the demo and the streaming still sucks. You want me to pay full price you give me an optimized native port.
Any "cloud" game is dead to me and might as well not exist.
@jello64 but the turtles are so cute!!!
Gotta go, the mayor needs to send an email! 😂
Only 87% for No. genuinely thought it would be higher than that
@BlueMonk No one is delusional about the concept of forever. The problem here is you essentially paying full price to pretend you own a product.
Let's say you spent 400$ worth of cloud games, and one day Nintendo says, "Alright, we had a good run, let's shut it all down."
You just lost 400$ worth of games, you will have to re-purchase elsewhere.
I played the first when it was on PS+ on PS5 and was surprised how much I loved it. The fact it took itself so seriously, made out the situation was so severe and dire but then had literal rat tornados. Absolutely absurd and brilliant!
Definitely excited for the sequel but Switch is really not the way to go for this one. Will pick it up on the PS5 once my backlog is cleared a bit.
Honestly I’m so proud that people are saying no to cloud games.
If you want people to play your game on the switch then actually put time and effort to have it run on the switch like what doom and the Witcher did.
Good luck with that...Steam Deck for the win, Now that the reservation period has ended its Purchase now with 2-4 weeks delivery
Cloud gaming sucks, see what happened to google stadia.
Requiem, is this game anything like eternal darkness, can someone tell me
@Greatluigi Honestly this is kind of a bad take.
Now I personally don't want cloud versions, but I am in a luxury position of having two consoles. However the notion that time and effort are all that's needed to make a game work on Switch, and that cloud versions are lacking them is not accurate.
Sure a cloud port is much easier, but that doesn't mean it's the easy way out, it may be the only way. There are many factors of game dev that could mean the game just can't run on Switch. The rat swarms in this game would be very hard and maybe impossible to do on Switch. They're not like in Doom or Witcher where you can cut the details and number of scenery pieces and add lower poly models with details baked in (not to be too reductive about those impressive ports). This is a fundamental feature of the game that relies on some beefy tech to pull off. Not to mention the game is made in a proprietary engine, it doesn't have Switch support built in like Unreal or Unity and going from PC to Switch is not the same as going from PC to XSX or PS5, it involves a ton a work at an engine level as well.
It's probably just not cost effective to do this work. So if it's a case of a cloud port or no Switch port at all, why not offer the cloud version? For those who only have a Switch and want to play it's still a solid option.
@Vexx234
I’m done with the games. Nostalgia is the death of hope. I just don’t care. I only hesitate if my experience will be affected at the time.
And that’s what matters to me, as time is more valuable than money. But once I am done I am not a collector and I do not like owning a bunch of stuff.
So I think that it is delusional; the idea that stuff actually matters to you. It’s getting old seeing influencers sit in front of a bunch of media that defines them.
