Re: Memory Pak: Star Fox 64, My Incredible Introduction To The World Of Nintendo

Good memories! I started off on the good old rubber-keyed Speccy too and first played Starfox there! (I refuse to say I’m middle aged though…)

My mate got a super nes when they came out and eventually I got to play this version of Star Fox! I thought it was kinda cool and then forgot about it.

Until the Switch and NSO! Been playing it there and the elusive SF2; great fun and I totally see the Star Wars-esqueness.

Happy times! I’d definitely buy a new switch Star Fox, especially if they made it a bit like Wing Commander, with branching story plots mixed in with the shooting

Re: Ubisoft Wants To Be "One Of The Key Players" In Blockchain Gaming

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last 39 years worth of gaming (yeah I’m old, meh). I’ve had a cracking time so far. I’ve avoided micro-transactions, loot boxes etc but this just smells entirely of gauging as much money out of people as possible, just like those other stellar inventions I mentioned above.

There does need to be some kind of morality reset but I’ll be long gone before that happens.

Whatever happened to making good games that are fun & not broken that also sell? People get the profits from that and there’s no need to rinse ever last penny out of someone because they can.

Ah well

Probably some Bomberman Online, mixed in with Pac-Man & Tetris online too. It’s weird how I have never taken to online multiplayer shooters, but I thoroughly enjoy Tetris ‘99 and then these two. And I’m not totally awful at them!

The last Bomberman I played was Eric and the Floaters (ask your dad - it’s a Hudson game from the early ‘80’s) and so this new iteration is giving me a lot of enjoyment 😊

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th December (Europe)

I have Heroes of Loot on my Vita and it's an excellent Gauntlet-esque roguelike. Not sure I want to fork out £7 and double-dip, especially when I paid something like £1.79 for the original, but it's definitely worth a blast if it comes down to around £4

Re: Team17's Worms Series Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

I had the Amiga original, and The Directors' Cut for the A1200. I've bought a few Worms games over the years and whilst this article has technically little to do with Switch software, it is a franchise available for the machine and it is about videogames, so there's some relevancy.

And I will be buying the cart for my Evercade!

Re: Poll: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

michaelf

I’ve never played a Pikmin game, so tried the demo last night and quite liked it. I’m personally not bothered that it originated from the Will U, as didn’t have that machine either, but whilst I like what I played, I’ve got enough to get thru and I’ll expect I’ll buy it in another six months or so (and not at full price either).

Re: Hamster Announces More Than 15 Games For The Arcade Archives Series On Switch

Out of that list, Gradius III, Green Beret and Rod Land would be my choices.

I'd like to see in the future, Rainbow Islands, Arkanoid, Chase HQ, Cabal, Operation Wolf and Op Thunderbolt, Powerdrift, Xybots, Toobin', APB and Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters!

(I'm essentially remembering all the good arcade games I used to play on my Spectrum that I don't believe have had Switch releases)

Re: Today's The Big Day - Happy 35th Anniversary, Mario!

michaelf

My first memory playing a Mario game was a port of the original Mario Bros on the ZX Spectrum, around 1987. My first experience of Mario on actual Nintendo hardware was Super Mario Land on the Game Boy. I’ve dipped in and out of various Mario games over the years and I’m currently enjoying playing the originals via All-Stars on NSO.

Good times and corking games!

I finally bit the bullet and bought Animal Crossing this morning! It’s endearingly sweet and seems to be a bit bonkers (in a “normal” type way) but I’m enjoying it. My mate tried to fly over from his island (he’s had the game since launch), but the friendly Dodo told me that gates don’t open until tomorrow!

This is now me committed to the game for quite possibly the rest of my life ...

Re: Rumour: Is A Tomb Raider Collection Coming To Nintendo Switch?

michaelf

If the collection is meant to represent the various games since TR1, then I'd be looking for some upgrading of the original gfx in the oldest set, alongside some 'quality of life' enhancements, such as saving abilities and more modern style of controls.

Having a smattering of the original style (from PS1 era to current gen), plus the twin-stick duo and GO would be a quite sweet collection.

My expectations versus reality are likely to be very different!!
