The new island is VERY short, for those wondering. No spoilers but it took me max ten minutes. The new arcade game also only took maybe another 10 minutes to get the high score?
I don't regret the purchase as it's pretty cheap and supports a great team, but would've been nice to get something more in addition.
The overall Touryst experience is EXCELLENT for those on the fence who never played first time around.
Already preordered this, which is a rarity for me. Loved the original, and looks like a decent add on. Plus was pretty impressed with the updated graphics, tbh.
Yes, like many others I was thrilled to see my bank account debited for the cost of a Switch 2 this morning.
Despite owning all consoles this is the first I've ordered on day one since the original PlayStation back in 1995! Back then I spent £300 on the console itself (according to Google that'd be over £700 today?!), plus £50 each for 3 games, £20 for a memory card, and £20 for a second controller.
Despite my excitement for Switch 2 (which is very, very high!) nothing will ever match the jump in experience going from SNES to PlayStation. It was MINDBLOWING to play Ridge Racer at home, and then Wipeout and Battle Arena Toshinden - not to mention Tekken soon after - just brought gaming to an all-new level of excitement.
Whoever's getting a Switch 2, and however soon you get to enjoy it, wishing you the very best time with it!
I recently got all three Xenoblade games on switch and have come down with a virus in time for the weekend, so I guess I’ll start with #1 first. I played all three of the games’ opening parts just for a flavour and all seem incredibly great but I have to say my best first impression was for #2! That Rex seems such a nice kid! 😂
Is anyone reminded of the situation between the original Crackdown and Crackdown 2 (e.g. an updated version of the same map, with new features and polished touches added on?)
Not necessarily bad, since I actually preferred Crackdown 2, but charging more than the original and taking 5 years to do it makes me hope that what was shown is the tip of a very hefty iceberg. I really hope so.
It might have something to do with the fact that people all over the world have less disposable income than they did a year ago, that Ubi's games are known for going on deep sales in short order, and that in gaming generally RRPs are too high, especially in light of season passes and in-game purchases.
First game I ever played was probably on Intelliivision - maybe Burger Time or a Space Invaders clone I forget the name of.
First game I ever bought was The Last Ninja 2 and first game I played on my own computer was Phantom Club (a superhero-themed isometric game similar to a not-as-good Head Over Heels.)
@Olympia I'm glad people enjoy them. We like porting them as it's a nice collab with Aksys, plus we enjoy them too. I especially enjoyed Spirit Hunter: NG, which totally hooked me/creeped me out. ^^
Nowadays devs can’t make a complete product right from the off and have people be happy about it. This game looks staggeringly polished and complete and we already want more… I know you can’t please everyone, but JEEZ. O_o
In my pretty extensive experience, certification is not a big deal, so much so that I can believe it passed and was ready to go when some nasty problem was found, prompting the delay. A day one patch or a complete resubmission would be the likely culprit I’d have to thought. Most likely it’s a patch delay.
@nkarafo To be fair, there's a lot more going on here than in HCT. That game uses scaling and only needs to render the track in one direction. It's a lot more old school than it appears. This game is alot more demanding. That said, any improvements would be good!
I think £11 for 5 hours is fine - it's the quality of those hours that's important. I would go see a good movie at the cinema for - say - £8 and that's surely worse value for money?
I couldn't disagree more. I've barely been able to put this down, although I totally concede that your mileage may vary.
For me it scratches that Spelunky itch plus the health system means that deaths are a little less instant. it's even possible to survive falling on spikes if you have enough health.
I miss being able to pick up random stuff (mice, rocks, etc) but the inventory is nice to have and the intelligence of the enemies in tracking you down keeps things tense.
My only real criticism is that bosses are only scaled in difficulty by giving them larger health bars, which can feel a bit grindy.
Just to let you know that Ghostlight will be publishing the game in the EU and Australian markets, and that there will be a 20% discount for the first two weeks after launch (starting 17th Jan)
Disclosure: I worked on the port, so am aware of such things.
As a day-one member of the GL team, I’m really pleased that we’re back on a Nintendo platform for the first time since the Wii years. And no, I can’t say what the first Switch JRPG is just yet. ;D
I’ve been LOVING this. First time I’ve played a roguelike with foreshadowing of events on future floors which builds a real sense of narrative. It’s crammed with nice touches but there are a few bugs. All I can say is that it’s kept me away from Dead Cells and Salt and Sanctuary for a couple of days now...
I'm hoping that the reason Dark Souls has gone so quiet is that it's being saved for the next Direct with some major tie in to the full online service reveal. I can hope, right?
Nice to see this get some coverage - it's one of the better games on the eShop I've purchased of late and the comparisons with Super Metroid are well-deserved...
I mean, It's taken my attention away from the likes of DRtC, Rogue Aces, Bombslinger, Streets of Red, Raging Justice, Flinthook and others, so it's definitely doing something right! ^_^

Re: UK Charts: It's The Final Week Before The Switch 2 Floodgates Open
Should add that I only ordered mine a week ago, so had to buy MKW separately since the bundles were sold out everywhere!

Re: Talking Point: Is It Time For Another Side-Scrolling Zelda Game?
Phoenotopia is basically Zelda 2 isn’t it? Phenomenal game!
If a new Zelda 2 is what you’re after you can’t go wrong, although the combat can be tough!

Re: Talking Point: What Classic Sega Franchises Do You Want To See Rebooted?
Gain Ground please.
Re: 'Star Racer' Is A Rad Mix Of F-Zero And Star Fox, With Music From Banjo Composer
Aero GPX is the F-Zero tribute I'm personally waiting for but this looks cool enough.

@Olympia I worked on porting both of those to Switch so glad to hear you enjoyed them!

Re: Talking Point: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?
I have found that electrical contact cleaner fixes my joycon and pro controller drift whenever it’s cropped up. No need to replace them.

I'm working on 3 of these and they are all awesome games, if VNs are your cup of tea.

@Varoennauraa pretty sure gyro aiming is in there.
Re: Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Coming To Switch Early Next Year With Gyro Controls
I absolutely loved this on OG Xbox and even played through on iPad but that price is SILLY MONEY... :-

I haven't played the first one, but I'm part of the team porting this. I really enjoy it! ^^

Re: Feature: The Best Metroidvania Games On Nintendo Switch
Other MVs I’ve really enjoyed on Switch are:
A Robot Named Fight!
Chasm
Salt and Sanctuary
All excellent - I’d also argue that Dead Cells can’t be considered as a MV, as it has sequential levels. Nice game though!
Re: Nintendo Download: 17th January (Europe)
Erm, I think the Fairy Fencer description text is actually for Cinderella? I certainly wouldn’t claim FF is for all ages, although it is cool.

Re: Reminder: Nintendo's Huge Festive Sale In Europe Ends Tomorrow, Last Chance To Grab A Bargain
@gcunit Heh, you're welcome! My collection is similarly healthy. Well over 100 now! ^^
Re: Reminder: Nintendo's Huge Festive Sale In Europe Ends Tomorrow, Last Chance To Grab A Bargain
So far I've grabbed:
Bleed
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Flat Heroes
The Next Penelope
Nine Parchments
Pocket Rumble
Resident Evil Revelations 2
Slayaway Camp: Butcher's Cut
There have been some crazily great savings to be fair. Well done Nintendo.
Re: Fantasy RPG Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force Is Heading To Switch This Year
As one of the people responsible for this game’s release in Europe, I can confirm that it’s releasing in January 2019.

Re: Guide: New Nintendo Switch Games Releasing In 2018
I'm hoping that the reason Dark Souls has gone so quiet is that it's being saved for the next Direct with some major tie in to the full online service reveal. I can hope, right?
Re: Gallery: Feast Your Eyes On These Gorgeous Sega AGES Screenshots
I love me some Gain Ground. Still an awesome concept that I'd like to see revisited today. ^^

I have pre-ordered this and am actually pretty psyched about getting hold of it on Thursday. ^^
