Re: Nintendo Announces Huge Switch Sale, More Than 1,000 Games To Be Discounted

@nowthisisepic Oh an my main issue is the Nintendo first party games. I get Nintendo has always had terrible sales deals on its games, but they pick the exact same games every sale and its very frustrating.

Even for every black friday an boxing week deals. Its always: Mario Maker, Breath of the Wild, maybe Splatoon and thats about it. and its always the same price. Its just frustrating when Nintendo is the ONLY dev/publisher than doesn't put its games on sale then boasts about having a massive sale.

@nowthisisepic OH i have a massive collection of games across every system. AAA, lowest budget and Indie games. Some of my favorite games have been indie. My issue is the eshop sales are almost always the same. they also have a "massive sale" but the majority of those games are the awful mobile game ports that are just copy an pasted code, that for some reason, Nintendo seems to let on the eshop, my guess is so they can boast about title numbers.

But due to the way the eshop is poorly design, even indie devs have said this, good titles get buried under $0.01 games that have no right to be at the front of the store and always are.

So itll be the same games that are always on sale and anything good will be buried under a mountain of terrible mobile ports.

@nessisonett Nintendo dont need the press? Have you been living under a rock? They have been paying celebrities to advertise the switch haha.

They literally just paid, Christina Aguilera, Serena Williams, Neil Patrick Harris, Annie Murphy, Brie Larson and Jimmy Fallon to promote it an be in commercials for it.

Nintendo is 100% about the press and needs it, your comment is laughable haha. Of course Nintendo paid for this segment and praise haha.

Hell i work for a major retailer on the corporate side and they just paid us to run an instore campaign haha.

Get a clue buddy lol

@jsty3105 The discount model is how all retail works. Demand declines, you put it on sale to promote more sales. I work in that field, its standard for every single market.
If a 7 year old car was priced the same as it was on day 1 no one would ever buy it.
We know it's sustainable because its been happening since the days of the Atari 2600 40+ years ago, even those games went on sale.

Theres no other industry or company i can think of that doesn't have sales or discount prices on older product, not one.

And thats what i mean when i say they artificially keep their value. Games on other system continue to sell even with sales and discounts. Nintendo games only show high numbers because most people know the games wont go on sale.
That's what's artificial about it, Nintendo force it to keep the value. Its just market manipulation.
Nothing illegal about it but its sure as hell as greedy and manipulative of the consumer.

@Poco_Lypso Not for first party games. When was the last time anyone talked about Arms?
2017 still full price.

Snipper clips, totally dead, full price, 2017.

Even if the games are dead and dont sell Nintendo never drops the price.
First party Wii U games where still full price even after Nintendo admitted its a dead system.

Thats my issue, if the games are dead then you drop the price to boost interest. Its how ALL retail works so why hasnt Nintendo got that message.
Its a sign that they artificially price games high when theres no reason.

Mario Kart 8 is a 7 year old game.
The Switch version is just the same game with the same DLC and its still full price. That seems normal to you?
A 7 year old game that very rarely goes on sale is still full price and its from the previous generation? If you dont see whats wrong with that then you might be missing something.

@jsty3105 I agree they should expand on the Wii U remasters but again charging full price for them is just pure greed.

Just look at Mario Kart. they did virtually nothing to it but charged full price. But they used a whole new engine for Xenoblade and added a new area and charged the same.
Charging full price for an old game while doing the bare minimum is pretty crappy.

And yes it works for them but they wouldnt loose money if they put different games on sale ones a year.
For example, i have no intention on buying Pokemon Sword or Shield. But if it goes on sale I'll buy it and im not alone. The whole point is to promote older games.
Charging full price for a 3+ years old game is insane.

If you bought anything else that old for the same price it would be stupid.

@dew12333 Its not many though, its every. Every single company discounts games. The ONLY one that doesn't is Nintendo. COD keeps its value high but even they have sales quite often to promote people to join in and promote the title. Smash Bros Ultimate came out in Dec 2018, never once has it gone on sale. 3 years and not once.
It's just Nintendo being greedy. Hell, the WIi U was a flop but from day 1 to the end they still charged full price for titled. Even now the list price for those games is still full retail.

I work in corporate retail, directly with a buyer an a Nintendo rep and we know how it works. The most annoying part is that when they do a sale its always the same games. Why only pick the same 4 of 5 games every single time.

Re: Review: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl - A Middling Pair Of Remakes

Every time I say something negative against the Pokemon the fanboys defend it an come after me, but every single time a new game comes out I'm 100% right.
Its a multi billion dollar company thats gives a $10 budget to make a game. They always go as cheap as possible and the fans eat it up and they know it.

They could make a bug filled mess and the fans would still buy it by the boat load and Nintendo/Game Freak know it. Thats why they always do the least amount of work possible for the most amount of profit.

The fans speak, it gets ignored, the fans get mad...then still buy it.

Re: Nintendo Announces Enormous Cyber Switch Sale That Will Discount More Than 1,000 Games

@jsty3105 Other companies know that games lose value and lowering the price brings in more sales for people that didnt jump in the first time around.
Nintendo gets to the top of the list artificially. They don't get there because the game keeps the value. They get there because people know Nintendo games never go on sale so they just buy them anyway.

2020 3 Nintendo games were in the top 20 list.
1 of those was artifically shoved to the top because it was the 3 Mario games that were temporary, so everyone went nuts trying to get it before it was taken off the market.

The games dont keep their value, Nintendo forces them to keep their value. Every other games gets to the top of the list legitimately.

You can hate on me all you like but those are cold hard facts. Its how they have always operated.

Re: Nintendo Announces Enormous Cyber Switch Sale That Will Discount More Than 1,000 Games

We all know how this is going to go because its the exact same every single year. They boast about 1000 games on sale, its 980 Mobile games that should be free, 15 third party games that are on sale every few weeks and 5 first party games that are the exact same ones we get every single sale that most people already own.

Nintendo price lock their games, the ONLY company that still does it and tthe hard fans still think its normal

Re: Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Need Some Work

earthinheritor

@Specter_of-the_OLED It isn't about the hardware, its the policies and background tech. Nintendo has proven that hardware isnt the only metric. The Switch is the least powerful system but tis clearly selling insanely well, i love mine.

The issue is their social media presents, operational policies everything in the background people ignore.

Like the insane Youtube policy that punished fans for liking their games that they had to reverse because of massive backlash and bad press.

Price locking 1st party games that literally no other developer has done for more than a decade.

This entire N64 thing where they clearly put little to no effort into it and charge far more than they should have, an thats pretty obvious looking at their social media feed backlash and news sites.

Social media where Xbox and Sony both listen to users and try to solve issues based on feedback but Nintendo just pretends those issues dont exist.

Refusing to admit the massive drift issues despite the fact its a very well published issues. I barely use my switch in hand held, i use a pro controller yet my joycons are drifting.

Shutting down all fan games that dont hurt Nintendo at all. But it was fans that made Sonic Mania and that was the best sonic game in many years. As long as the fan games arent making money it hurts no one and can actually grow to become real games that Nintendo could invest in.

So it isn't hardware, its internal policy that's the issue. They are so scared of working with outside devs on new games but games like Rabbids proved how well that can actually work but they are still stubborn.
