Update: As highlighted by our buddies over at VGC, it appears that the latest Animal Crossing patch has, among other things, addressed this glitch and once again covered the modesty of your furry, feathery, or leathery animal residents.
Here, Nintendo even made en explicit note of it in the patch notes:
- Fixed an issue where facility members wearing clothing that uses Custom Designs appear to not be wearing any clothing.
Should think so, too. This is a family game, for family people.
Original Story [Fri 3rd Dec, 2021 12:05 GMT]: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' new DLC, Happy Home Paradise, is a delightful addition to the main game that has already been keeping players busy for hours on end. But while designing holiday homes for new villagers is the DLC's focus, a particularly strange glitch has been shifting some players' focus onto... Other things.
Over the past few weeks, players have been reporting a bizarre error where villagers have been loading into the game entirely naked. As Eurogamer reports, it would appear the glitch has been present ever since the DLC's launch at the start of November, and only seems to happen inside Happy Home Paradise's cafe – one of the island facilities you unlock as you progress through the DLC.
While some corners of the internet will be less troubled by the glitch, it's been causing quite a bit of confusion for those who weren't expecting it to happen. If you don't want to see fluffy villager butts and loose tentacles – oh dear – we suggest you look away now.
You'd imagine Nintendo would be pretty keen to implement a fix for this, so we doubt the bug will be around forever. Still, if you happen to stumble across a nude ostrich in your cafe next time you play the game, at least you now know what's going on...

I have had an issue since day 1 where my villagers will often walk around in a plain blank white T-shirt despite having been given many items of clothing - would prefer this glitch to be honest

This is generally caused by them putting on one of your custom t's from Mabel's shop when you haven't uploaded any.
Go to the back wall and replace all the patterns with ones you like and they should ware that instead of the white t's.

If I was too guess based on the photos ... this is an incompatibility between species that ware "tops" as "costumes" and species that ware only bottoms. If you switch out someone working but don't change the uniform to something they can ware, this happens.

What's impressive (if not a bit cursed) is how much detail Nintendo put into the villagers' fur patterns, despite the huge majority of players who will never see those details by default.
People are joking about the pervy or prudish, meanwhile AC fan artists see an opportunity for more accurate drawings :V

I wish this was an option sometimes, a lot of my happy home paradises I set up like them in their natural habitat for the villagers that are designed in a "natural way"
Like Kyle lives in Africa, Bianca in some cold mountains, Octavian in a coral reef etc.
Doesn't apply to all villagers (for instance claus doesn't look natural at all lol) but for some it'd be cool
I find it more interesting that there fully modled like this with details youd otherwise never see... as (from what ik from previous AC games having yet to play this one) the animal villagers can only were one stile of top there assigned to ware so seams intresting that the tee isn't just part of there modle in general
@BongoBongo I think they tend to do that if they don't have any sporty clothes they like in particular. Could be wrong, just a theory based on observation.

@roy130390 There's a mod that lets you have nude villagers and NPCs. It even makes player characters nude, and adds genitals to every character, with a catch; if you have a male, you would see a female character with a penis, and other way around. Of course, they recommend NOT connecting to the Internet when playing with a modded Switch. They're working on making the new characters added naked, as well. I just hope we can see Lottie, and Digby naked.
