Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think The "Switch Pro" Will Actually Be Called?

@Tandy255 I worked in a retail store when the NEW 3ds came out and before that Apple did it with New iPhone and NEW iPod.
i work retail now but corporate side.

Products named NEW are horrific to work with. Customers are confused and have no idea what version they have. Marketing it on a website is just as painful because its all named new or by the year. Its bad for everyone.

Re: Switch Hardware Sales Beat Xbox Series X|S And PS5 Combined, Unsurprisingly

@Heavyarms55 Man you went heavy on the conspiracy there didnt you.
Yeah no one paid them, this wasn't a Sony article or anything else. It was an industry article from analysts.
Everyone is effected, GPUs, Cars, consoles, Processors, monitors, tvs everything with a chip its a world wide and industry wide issue and thats a fact not a conspiracy.

SOME companies have a stockpile, Apple being one of them. Apple can do that because alot of the chips in their phones are the exact same every generation. Even the processors are usual just a slight improvement but the parts inside are the same.

PS5, Xbox and GPU was hit the hardest. Because all 3 were new architecture. When the pandemic started the final parts of the system were still being decided upon and at that point no shortage was expected.

When those 3 main products had their specs finalized it created a massive influx, and influx that would normally be fine, if there wasnt a shortage of raw materials.. The big 3 being Nvdia, Sony and Microsoft, all tried to release new hardware within the same month or 2. Needless to say thats millions of extra parts. Not including every single other industry.

Now for GPUs we had a stock shortage because of bots and scalpers and crypto miner as well

Ps5 and Xbox got hit by scalpers as well. not to mention that with people stuck at home they wanted games and systems to tide them over. Lockdowns, no gatherings, no work...major sales increase.

Nintendo would have been ok. The system is 4 years old, they likely have a huge stock pile like Apple.

Sony have already released rough sales data that the PS5 outsold projections. It even smashed the PS4 sales, which was the fastest selling console at launch. They couldnt have prepared for that. Thats why Sony announced they are trying re work the architecture to help their supply.

Officially there is a world wide shortage in EVERY industry until 2022 now and that was an independent study

There isnt some weird conspiracy. 3 of the biggest tech launches in gaming history, launched at the same time, world wide. during a pandemic, with a shortage of raw materials.

They could have delayed those until 2022 but doing so would have lost them billions in revenue. It would have destroyed Sony, Microsoft and Nivdia financially.

@Heavyarms55 Actually there was an interesting article on a tech site recently. It seems no one predicted the chip shortage at all.
All major companies expected there to be more than needed. People wouldnt be working, wouldnt have money for tech. They still stockpiled to make sure though. The interesting part was that not only did sales continue to FAR exceeded every and all trends and predicated sales.

It was really interesting but all the analysts in the industry predicted the same thing based on past models, which makes sense. But every last one of them admitted this was the exact opposite trend that should have happened.

super interesting to see that even the peoples whos job it is to predict this stuff were completely blown away by what actually happened.

Re: Yes, Link's Improved "Fast Travel" In Skyward Sword HD Really Does Seem To Be Locked Behind An amiibo

@Ashunera84 My point is, as most people seem to agree, adding a feature the original didnt have, that effects the game, and isnt just cosmetic, just for the pure purpose to sell an expensive Amiibo is still pretty bad.
All the other Amiibos add a costume or mostly cosmetics. So adding an entire feature based on an extra piece, isnt good.

It also sets a precedence. People were so mad when Elder Scrolls had horse armor and it opened the door for DLC and now we have constant addons. Microtransactions and Loot boxs started with games like COD and now they are freaking everywhere. I mean, even single player games now sell currency or its hours and hours or work to get something.

Something like this can open the doors for Nintendo, or others, to do something like this but worse.
It'll sell regardless but all it does it shows Nintendo they can sell lock features behind a paywall.

@bozz See...story wise 1 is far far superior. Its more engaging, the characters i cared about..it 2, not so much.

But gameplay wise, 2 is way way better. It has loads of different game play types but it actually works. Even the RTS parts worked well. On ps4 it is unbelievably pretty.

Re: Zelda & Loftwing Is The Only amiibo Compatible With Skyward Sword HD

For people that still think that Nintendo remasters arent over priced. Just going to remind you all that the Mass Effect Trilogy, with all 3 games remastered, with some updated mechanics and updated graphics with ALL dlc...is the same price as this....and this game locks a key feature behind a limited edition paywall....you are fooling yourself if you think Nintendo's pricing makes sense.

Re: Yes, Link's Improved "Fast Travel" In Skyward Sword HD Really Does Seem To Be Locked Behind An amiibo

earthinheritor

@Ashunera84 Oh come on.
The original version can still be pretty damn expensive and only on eBay so there is price gouging going on.
Very few people still have a Wii and even less have a Wii U.
We know Nintendo doesnt price drop first party games, they always stay at full retail. Even a rare sale sometimes drops them by $10 but that might be in 2 years if at all.

Not buying something to show them its over priced has never worked, because they only look at sales and you cant stop everyone from just not buying it. It is absolutely over priced and we all know it.

I wouldnt say undercooked like the other person. But adding fast travel, which is a simple modern mechanic..then locking it behind a very expensive pay wall is extremely scummy. Not to mention that with Amiibos being physical only eventually they will stop making them. Its impossible to find most older ones already. That means they are locking a main standard feature behind a limited edition paywall...that is not ok at all.

As for not being a necessity, of course that true. But this is still an inexcusable tactic. Hobby or not it doesnt make over pricing and scum back tactics any better. Just look at loot boxes.

Re: Random: Did You Know The Wii U Can Burn eShop Games To Discs?

earthinheritor

@Spider-Kev Honestly it's not something I usually do. But it was before the Switch was announced and the Wii U was already a near dead system. I did it for Xenoblade Chronicles X at the time and a few others. Games went out of print and paying insane ebay prices for games just because Nintendo messed up was a hard pass.
