Metroid Dread might currently be out in front as the top-selling video game following E3, but over on the social media platform Twitter the conversation is apparently all about the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
In an official Twitter gaming wrap-up covering the first half of 2021, the platform revealed the "most talked about games" from this year's E3. In first was the new Zelda game coming out in 2022. Here's the top five:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
- Elden Ring
- Battlefield 2042
- Halo Infinite
- Forza Horizon 5

Despite Zelda taking out the top spot - FromSoftware's Elden Ring apparently had the most viewed video on the platform:
According to Twitter, at one point during E3 2021, it "dominated" the conversation on the platform - with 26 out of 30 Worldwide Trends related to the event.
In addition to this, Twitter also revealed the "most tweeted about video games" in the first half of 2021. Taking out the top spot was Genshin Impact.
- Genshin Impact
- Apex Legends
- Ensemble Stars!
- Final Fantasy
- Animal Crossing
- Knives Out
- Fortnite
- Monster Hunter
- Fate/Grand Order
- Minecraft
Japan followed by the United States and South Korea were also the countries tweeting about gaming the most.

Yeah i'm not surprised, I'm really looking forward to this game too.
I wish they could have shown us a bit of the gameplay, but i'm still very hyped all the same.
Also Elden Ring looks interesting too.
Can't wait for The Legend of Zelda: Ganons of Discomfort.
Yet Forza was still the most anticipated game to come from e3 apparently
This just shows that there's big disconnect between the gaming media and the people.
We've seen it before when Xenoblade 2 came out and couldn't even win best soundtrack at TGA's when the public was praising it, or how about how 3 Houses got the cold shoulder but won the TGA fan poll?
They'll continue to get it wrong as long as Nintendo is involved.
So between this and Metroid: Dread we have a clear "winner" of E3 2021 then, huh?
But... But... E3 said that everyone is most looking forward to Forza!
@SwitchVogel Yeah, not sure where they came up with that. Don’t know a single person that’s talking about Forza at the moment. It’s almost like it’s 2016 or 2017 all over again in my circles. It’s all about Nintendo... or it would be all about Nintendo if not for the Abandoned conspiracy. But I digress. That’s not an E3 topic.
Not going to lie, that else ring game at 60 fps looks real good 😲
yes. BOTW WAS A WII U TITLE. so yeah BOTW 2 is going to be bigger and better. I know that will be hard to belive but the game is going to be alot bigger in size which will be saying alot. just hope you get a better reward for finding all korok seeds than a pile of gold poop. but every thing else on this game is going to out do the original and I cannot wait.
And yet, all the Xbox fanboys keeps saying Xbox “won” e3.
All this based on a small teaser video. The hype will be real when they fully reveal it next year.
@AgentGuapo I mean, if you're an Xbox fan, then their titles probably appeal to you more. Microsoft's show did nothing at all for me, but I'm glad their base is satisfied.
Part of me is surprised a bit of chaos didn't make the list.
BotW2 is a cert for me. Elden Ring looks pretty cool too.
What scares me the most is what's going to be competing for Game of the Year. I know it's too early to say anything about either game, but they both are surely bound to be nominated. I have too much passion for BotW2 to want Elden Ring to win.
I thought metroid dread was the most talked about. BOTW 2 is neat and all but it's a bit longer of a wait. There's not much to say other than what's the title and when can i play it.

Everyone who dislikes Nintendo: Microsoft totally won this year!
BotW2 and Elden Ring are my two most hyped games right now, both look incredible.
But Forza has better graphics

@SwitchVogel to be honest, Forza is a good looking game.
Yeh elden ring looked a bit lame to me.... looks like I will be one of the few not picking it up
Curse of the wild
Breath of the Wild 2's launch sales are going to be something else if it's generating this level of hype a year prior to launch.
I was too excited for the Advance Wars reboot to remember what they showed off for BOFW2.
Does Animal Crossing count if it wasn't mentioned at E3?
@WallyWest but if you could only play one?
I'm surprised Metroid Dread isn't in the Top 5. I'm super excited for BOTW2, but right now my focus is mainly on Dread since that comes out soon. (Still BOTW2 was definitely best of show, no question)
@Entrr_username haha that one still baffles me. They must have paid for that meaningless honor or something, because who is most anticipated by Forza? Every entry in that series look the same to me, and you know what you're getting with those games. They're just nice realistic racers, which is fine, but nothing we haven't seen many times before, even from other series entirely.
@duffmmann The moment one mentions anything positive being "paid" is when I stop reading.
I don’t want to get anything started, but I’m not sure this will be 2022. The announcement said it hopes for 2022, and it wasn’t mentioned in what’s next for Switch.

@zool Hard choice but most likely pick BotW2 as i will get more time from it.
@Entrr_username I don't genuinely believe they were paid obviously, it's just a statement to possibly explain the baffling reveal it is that a racing sim that looks like the ones before it would win such an honor (meaningless as it may be), because I'm genuinely not sure what explains how that game wins most anticipated from that this year's show.
