Fall Guys

Someone — or potentially multiple someones — are having a really, really bad day at Mediatonic HQ, as the latest patch for Fall Guys included... their entire source code. Oops.

As you can see on SteamDB, a website which tracks changes to Steam's database, Fall Guys was updated with a bunch of new changes, but those changes included a new folder called — and we're not joking here — "BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame".

Why is it bad if a game's source code gets leaked? Well, it makes it much easier for hackers to get in, and either make the game a nightmare for other players, or figure out how to give themselves items, currency, and so on. But it's also Mediatonic's secret sauce recipe. By leaking it, they've given people the ingredients to the proprietary blend of herbs and spices that make Fall Guys work.

But, of course, Mediatonic have already done damage control, and the source code has already been deleted. Since it was pointed out in public, though, on Twitter (and now news sites), it's highly likely that people already have it, and can potentially distribute it further.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will be coming to the Nintendo Switch some time after this summer — presumably free of folders that Mediatonic should definitely not ship with the game.
