@Dinglehopper same. And with the price hike this is no longer a day one purchase for me. Not because of the asking price really but because after 6 years I want more than glorified DLC. I am still hoping I’m wrong but for now I’ll wait to read/watch a few reviews before making a purchase decision.
@Hero-of-WiiU I feel the same way… I would have much preferred a brand new world too. Especially with the six years gap between this and BotW’s release… but like you said we’ll have to wait and see
@Perryg92 I don’t think it’s fake. Too many leaked pics including impressive sets never seen before on MOC sites about other cool IPs like LotR, Disney, etc. Only way this may not make it into production is if it gets cancelled but we should otherwise see most of those sets release within the next 2 years.
I really have no opinion I completely trust the devs on this game I am however skeptical this game can have anywhere near the level of innovation BotW did so I’ll be content with tweaks to a winning formula.
@ozwally I have both and I agree Switch is so much more pleasant for ease of use. I get a lot of hate on Reddit for saying this but Steam Deck is way better with Windows.
@Nintendo_Thumb wow, thank you for your detailed comment =D. I only played very little Mario Maker on Switch because my online expired (I play mostly offline single player and barely have any time to play at all lately) but I appreciate your input and I’ll definitely consider giving the online levels another go once I renew it. I have been meaning to try a few levels I saw ppl playing on YouTube anyway.
I think for me the main give away is probably what you are referring to as « regular » 2D Mario being obsolete. I agree in the sense that if Nintendo is to make another 2D Mario they really need to innovate (especially after 4 fairly sterile NSMB games).
I think my main issue is with some YouTubers (RGT85, Wulff Den off the top of my head) making the argument that Nintendo would be stupid to release single player 2D Mario games after making Mario Maker and in that strict sense I completely disagree. Nintendo is a business and a relatively old 2D Mario port on Switch is selling wayyy better than the brand new sequel to Mario Maker, it’s selling way better than lots of other games and last I checked almost as good as 3D Mario.
I think a new 2D Mario is inevitable and I hope it is fresh and innovative and very different from « regular » 2D Mario when it does come out. And maybe that game with its new art style / story / mechanics could encourage an even better Mario Maker 3 later on.
Ultimately I guess 2D Mario has become more casual and Mario Maker stepped in for those that are more skilled. And given I am not particularly skilled I can appreciate a more casual 2D Mario, but please Nintendo innovate a little. cheers
So sick of all the YouTubers saying Mario Maker makes 2D Mario obsolete. I personally much prefer 3D Mario but the market for 2D Mario is still very strong… lots of ppl out there myself included would rather play a Nintendo made 2D Mario rather than suffer through thousands of half arsed projects with the odd decent levels nevermind I don’t have time to mess around creating my own. I still hope they innovate and evolve the genre but as long as they do that then it is anything but obsolete and it will probably continue to destroy Mario Maker in the sales department.
Not all platforms are made equal when it comes to digital games but PC is definitely the best place with services like steam that have been around for the equivalent of multiple console generations. Xbox is a decent place as well slightly better than PlayStation in my humble opinion due to better track record at supporting old games, Nintendo is the worst place by far to buy digital. They are always the first to shut down online services and support old games max one generation going backwards (GBC/GBA, GBA/DS, DS/3DS, GameCube/Wii, Wii/Wii U… and then since Switch zero backwards compatibility going forward and zero guarantees Switch’s successor will support any of its library but given Switch’s success at selling us cheap ports I’d bet Nintendo will try to screw us all with their next console… and I’ll probably just suck it up all over again 😂. But yeah when it comes to Nintendo games physical all the way. Besides they have fantastic resale value.
@Haruki_NLI it was probably being said about the Xbox one but definitely not the PS4 who had some of its best exclusives during its last year. Totally agree on that and definitely disappointed by the lack of games especially with the promise of more studios at the beginning of the Switch’s life by the combination of mobile and home console into one platform.
Ughhh I’m sorry to complain but I just want a line of Zelda and Mario legos with minifigures (not the stupid ugly play sets) why does every franchise under the sun seems to be getting the LEGO treatment except our dear Nintendo IPs
@Pokemaniacal I agree he was awesome for the role…. I don’t mind Hemsworth I’m just pissed about the casting change. No doubt there is more money to be made with DC but I have very little fate any thing coming out of DC would be even half as good as the Witcher.
@Mioaionios nice! The Star Wars theme is truly one of Lego’s very best. I’m into Harry Potter mostly myself but if I had unlimited budget i would definitely love a few Star Wars sets. I am hoping LotR gets a reboot too but I am doubtful that’ll ever happen
@Mioaionios maybe! Personally I love LEGO for its quality and I think they are worth their steep price… I would even argue they are a decent investment seeing how they keep value over time even used. I wish we could get more Nintendo IPs in LEGO form I really don’t like the design of the Mario play sets I wish we could get a proper minifigure scale peach castle or Zelda LEGO mini figs sets and yeah definitely some Pokémon stuff!
@Mioaionios I cannot agree with that even with the price increase LEGO sets are usually about 10 cents a piece if this were a lego set it would cost about 100-120$ not the 300$+ that you are suggesting.
@garfreek thanks for the generous recommendations!! I have always been curious about final fantasy and didn’t know where to start. I thought the FF7 remake looked good but I wasn’t sure the store was complete and I kept reading the latest entries weren’t that good (XIII and XV) so I’ll grab X when it goes on sale . Chrono trigger is like legendary status but I scare away from older games because I find them harder lol. Maybe I should keep an eye out for that too especially if it’s not too long. I gotta give it those Mario RPGs a shot too although they seem very different from your typical jrpg. Which tales game do you feel is best? I could probably grab the latest entries on a steam deck.
@Maximumbeans that is a very fair point lolll I should probably start with a smaller jrpg I just thought this looked like it would hold my attention more because of the universe and characters. I just wished there was a demo to try at least a bit of the gameplay. The DQXI 10 hrs demo got me to buy the game but that’s another one that is gonna pile up on the backlog I fear… I need a crash course on better time management if I am gonna continue gaming as a hobby lol
Never have played a single Xenoblade game before… actually never completed a single jrpg. This game looks really good though if I can muster the 100hrs plus it seems to require. I wish there was a demo along the likes of the DQXI demo. Either way glad to see Switch exclusives getting such good reviews. Awesome work Monolith!!
Phantom hourglass was my introduction to Zelda games and it was a bit rough at that. I mean I loooved the game until my third visit to the temple gosh I gave up and decided I must be bad at videogames. Now that I see all the hate that temple is getting online I kinda wanna give it another go maybe with a guide next to me.
@PhhhCough yup totally agree. I don’t know how small of a demographics owners of Switch/Steam Decks are but for sure I see little value in buying third parties on Switch… and I was not impressed by the latest Direct…
Just got those yesterday on Steam Deck for 3$ an absolute steal of a deal during steam summer sales. Glad to see more people will enjoy/discover those gems on Switch
@Orokosaki I am not sure what you would consider shallow because I never played any destruction derby game on PSone but I do highly recommend this one. It may not be the most polished game out there but the driving and destruction make it loads of fun. There is decent customization and an interesting variety of vehicles (if you can call a toilet and a couch a vehicle) and events with crazy twists. I hope you give it a shot. I guarantee a smirk on your face for at least several hours worth of fun.
@DarthXenos there are plenty of modes to choose from including last man standing basing myself of PC/PS4 versions. You can play the campaign or do custom events. I don’t remember if you can do last man standing in a circuit like the one in the trailer but then you can customize the number of laps to make it near endless… (by the way that’s an easy way to rake up loads of in game cash)
Wow! Very impressed! I just bought it on Steam to play on my Steam Deck and already owned it on PS4 but to anyone else who hasn’t played this yet I highly recommend it! It’s the most fun I’ve had in any racing game other than Mario Kart
@Wurstsemmel753 Minecraft and Skyrim are solid ports too not so sure how well the Switch is gonna handle No Man’s Sky though that’s one I’ll probably play on a Steam Deck instead
@Anti-Matter I appreciate your feedback I don’t have a PlayStation console anymore at the moment but I would be willing to give it another go whenever I get a new PlayStation console (I sold my copy but got the digital PS4 version for free during COVID) or even better if it comes to PC. I do have to say that I enjoy Mario for the gameplay first and foremost and I agree the story is lacking. Even Odyssey had an above average story as far as Mario is concerned and I despised it but loved the game nonetheless. As for the dying screens/accessibility Nintendo has improved with each generation while maintaining a decent challenge. I gotta say though the one thing I miss my PlayStation for is games with a deep story (deeper than Ratchet even) but now with a Steam Deck I at least have access to God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn… hoping more titles will be ported after Uncharted!
@Anti-Matter What do you like about ratchet and clank so much? I tried 2 of them including the reboot on PS4 and I couldn’t get myself to play past 45 minutes… it felt like a shooter rather than a 3D platformer and well not a very good one at that.
Is it weird that I wish that the upcoming Hogwarts game had an art style like this? I am sorta bored by photo realism in games… it’s uncanny at least with characters not so much environments
The Switch now being my most often played console I am very happy to hold on to my 10+ years old 1080p 55 inch TV until the official Switch Pro comes out in probably a couple more years
I am divided, part of me wants the Switch successor to be a straight up Switch with full backwards compatibility and beefed up specs all the while keeping the hybrid factor but on the other hand I like the Nintendo gimmicks they bring with every generation (dual screens, stereo 3D without glasses, hybrid, motion controllers) and I hope they can surprise me again
Yayyyyy I have been googling this almost daily scared it may have been cancelled I really miss this game ever since I sold my PS4 can’t wait to play it again on Switch so much fun!!! (I was even considering buying a steamdeck just to play it)
