It's a brand new year and we have the latest UK charts to kickstart 2023 (although technically this covers the last week of 2022). There are no major surprises this week and no new entries, but simply a minor reshuffling of the top ten games. At the top spot is Santa Monica Studio's God of War Ragnarok, climbing two positions to beat out FIFA 23 in second place.

Interestingly, the Switch version of FIFA 23 came joint first with the PlayStation 4 version in terms of the platform split, making up 28%. It just goes to show that EA's lack of effort with Nintendo's platform is seemingly paying off, at least in the UK.

Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe made its way into third place, knocking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II down to fourth despite a 40% sales fall. Modern Warfare II sales dropping by 64% may have given Nintendo's racer the slight boost it needed to take the bronze.

Sonic Frontiers held strong at number ten this week, falling down from number seven. Once again, the Switch version dominated the boxed sales, making up a whopping 53% of the platform split. Finally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons made its way back into the top ten to come in at number eight, rising four position from the previous week.

One final thing to note: according to Christopher Dring over at GamesIndustry.biz, overall boxed sales in 2022 were down by roughly 10% in comparison to 2021.
