We can never have enough Pokémon toys, especially buildable ones! And today, The Pokémon Company and Mattel have announced a brand new Pikachu that's bound to set off sparks in your heart.
This MEGA Pokémon Motion Pikachu Building Set lets you build an adorable, elaborate electric mouse to display or play with. Coming with 1095 bricks, once fully constructed, you'll be able to move Pikachu's legs using the mechanised, hand-activated crank!
The attention to detail here is stellar. We love the little round red cheeks that just make us was to rub them, and the added electricity coming from them really just adds to the cuteness factor. This 'mon comes in at just over 22.5cm long (under 9 inches) when all put together, so it'll make a nice shelf item for sure!
Here's a peek at what this little yellow mouse will look like when he's all built:
Look, we love him, okay? It's the little paws. Mattel's demo video on its website will convince you — the grass even moves to make this Pikachu look like the one in the anime intro!
There are even interchangeable nameplates which let you pick between Pikachu's English or Japanese names, a lovely little touch!
Of course, given the size and the brand, Pikachu doesn't come too cheap. Mattel lists the electric mouse at $96.99, though (at the time of writing this) Amazon has it for just over $75. In the UK, you can grab it for £74.99 at Very or £72 on Amazon.

This looks very cute and I don't think $97 is that much.
If this were a Lego product, it'd cost thrice that amount.
Omg it's so cute for just a bunch of plastic bricks. I think this is the one time I like one of Mattels pokemon sets.
It's been years, but I always forget how skinny Pikachu is these days. I do prefer the original version but congrats on his weight loss journey!
-and the toy looks pretty sweet
For $97 it should say Pikachu!
I wish Pokémon would just team up with Lego already. But this set looks cool I won’t deny!
I've bought some non-Lego Legoes before and the quality isn't close. They dont fit together well and the directions are generally trash.
@Mioaionios €100 for 1.000 pieces is the normal price for lego. This set would’ve been €120 at max if lego made it.
@Sonos which non-Lego Legos? I’ve gotten dozens of LOZ and Nanoblock sets, and they’ve all been great.
@Mioaionios I cannot agree with that even with the price increase LEGO sets are usually about 10 cents a piece if this were a lego set it would cost about 100-120$ not the 300$+ that you are suggesting.
@geo-shifter loz are super cool especially the the Loz mini sets amazing detail in small form factor
@dil_power @darkswabber
True, but considering how large this set is, wouldn't Lego try to increase the amount of pieces?
@Mioaionios maybe! Personally I love LEGO for its quality and I think they are worth their steep price… I would even argue they are a decent investment seeing how they keep value over time even used. I wish we could get more Nintendo IPs in LEGO form I really don’t like the design of the Mario play sets I wish we could get a proper minifigure scale peach castle or Zelda LEGO mini figs sets and yeah definitely some Pokémon stuff!
@dil_power
Lego's great. I own a couple of Star Wars 18+ sets: R2D2, A-Wing Starfighter and Republic Gunship.
I wish the technic pieces used for supports were clear, otherwise it's pretty perfect. I also think the price is pretty good, though my hesitation is that it's not Lego and I don't have any experience with Mega.
@Mioaionios nice! The Star Wars theme is truly one of Lego’s very best. I’m into Harry Potter mostly myself but if I had unlimited budget i would definitely love a few Star Wars sets. I am hoping LotR gets a reboot too but I am doubtful that’ll ever happen
@Mioaionios If it was LEGO it would actually be a quality product, Mega Construx is SUCH bad quality
Will need to see a vid of the motion but the price seems really reasonable… LEGO, please take note.
This is so cute. I wonder if Mega will make any more pokemon? Price seems kinda steep for a toy.
I agree, it would be much more expensive if it was a Lego toy
Not a bad price really. The motion Gyarados is far cooler, but also quite pricey.
@dil_power Exactly. LOZ actually had some nice Pokémon sets at one point. I’m not sure if people can still find those. And the little Japanese shopfronts! Beautiful!
We all know Lego is quality, but I’ve seen creativity from lesser known brands.
But nothing beats the NES Lego set… hehe.
If it ain't Lego, it ain't sh*t
