Re: Talking Point: Come In Nintendo 3DS, Your Time Is Up

daniruy

I love my 3DS to bits, but everything and everyone must, one day, go. I bought mine in 2011 - as a matter of fact, mine is the ambassador one. I appreciate the many hours I spent with it, but I'm focused on the Switch now. Thank you, 3DS. I'll never forget you.

I can never forget that game. Used to play it with my brother, scared to bits of it.

I remember one night, out parents were asleep (they didn’t know we had been playing such a gory piece of media), and it was almost midnight.

It came the part with those bloody dogs. Then we stared at each other and went together to our shared bedroom! I don’t even recall saving the game!

Nice memory that one.

Re: Soapbox: Don't Listen To The Pokémon: Let’s Go Haters - The Game Has Definitely Found Its Audience

I think people are used to thinking that some stuff belongs to them. It's "my favourite franchise", "my favourite game", "my favourite mechanics". I get that and even support it up to a point.

I am not as good a competitive player as I'd like to be, but I think Pokemon belongs to me just the same. I've been playing the thing since 1998, I am really happy to see Pokemon Yellow in gorgeous graphics, music and with new mechanics.

At the end, people are probably upset they are going to relearn in order to keep on top of the game, because new people will come, understand the game and kick their asses.

Re: People Are Review-Bombing Pokémon: Let's Go Across Major Sites, Amazon Japan Blocks User Scores

I just don't get it.

I've been playing Pokemon since the very beginning when I was 10 years old. Only with Moon I got into the mechanics of the meta-game.

Now, I really like the abilities, item, IVs and EVs and team-building. I am learning at my own pace.

Then they release a remake of the first Pokemon I fell in love with (yellow) and I bought it day 2 and am having a hell of a time.

I even like the Pokemon Go mechanic for capturing the critters - although the joy-con sensibility let me down.

But it is not a bad game by any means. It is fun as hell and the soundtrack - oh man.

These people need some love, seriously.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Urges Game Developers To Embrace Subscription-Based Services

daniruy

Tell you what.

I grew up going to rental shops to rent cartridges every Friday. Buying games was not possible - they were two expensive. Now, two games for 5/week ( that was in Brazil, 20 something years ago), you spent the weekend playing, no interference with school life, and poor performance in school, no games. My parents loved that.

From my perspective, I played loads of titles more, and my knowledge of the SNES and N64 grew a lot during those times.

Today, I struggle to pay 60 pounds for a game, because life doesn't allow that, and I have not much time to play either. I would gladly pay 10 pounds a month in order for me to play some Netflix-ish platform.

That sub-header makes me think of one of my pupils in Year 7. I was teaching about reproductive system, and showed them a video of sperm cells swimming inside the uterus. I asked: "What is the name of that dark tunnel sperm cells are swimming in?"

The girl answered: "Uranus!"

And the headteacher was observing my lesson.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

daniruy

I had some fun moments with Sunshine a couple of years ago - after Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. And that is the problem, as you say Mike. I hadn't played it back in the days and went on to play it 10 years after release.

And I have the EXACT same problem: the camera. I wanted to play; the game was inviting me to, but the camera beat me up every single moment. It was massively frustrating.

Interesting though, last year I replayed Mario 64 again on the WiiU and the camera never felt that bad.

This only makes me want a Galaxy 3, really.

Re: Thankfully, Europe Is Getting A More Handsome SNES Classic Mini

daniruy

What should I do? I grew up in Brazil, with that lovely US Version - loved the purple. Now I live in Europe, and am forced to watch my friends and acquaintances speaking blasphemies against that holy machine, whilst embracing the colors of the beast, that fanciful imitation of glory!

Owe to you, oh Earth and Sea!

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Sets Out Nintendo's Stance On eSports

daniruy

I do like that approach. I am not intereated in the "pro" side of things because, as fa as I can see, it takes away the fun of it, allowing the best of the best to be in and all the others out.

If it is for the masses, well count me in. It is hard to go,say, to competitibe pokemon, because it is a lot of knowledge, but it is fun nevertheless, and I think if I put a lot of effort, I can still play with others. But I will never be able to play against pros.

Way to go, Reggie.

Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

daniruy

After 5 years with my wonderful 3DS, we know what we've been through. I was an early adopter, but after that decided to never do it again.

With the WiiU, I waited for a year to buy the Zelda Wind Waker's one.

Never again. It's always better to wait and see. I know I will buy one, certainly; not immediately though - no need for that.
