Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?

daniruy

I have been doing retro gaming for a while. Game Boy and SNES mainly - Nintendo Switch subscription has been great for that, although I do prefer the Virtual Console.

Fixing my Game Boy Color, modding it and discovering hack to old games is a lot of fun, so I am spending my gaming time mostly with that.

Also, Xbox Game Pass is indeed great when it works. As of late, queues of 45 minutes are obscene. I am going back to the UK so I will be able to afford more games. In Brazil, there's no way I'd spend 5000 on the console and almost a fifth of it in every game.

Re: Soapbox: During A Mental Health Crisis, It Wasn't Cosy Games That Helped

I knownthe feeling mate. As a teacher and father of two and husband, and student, and this, and that, I have many responsabilities that often trigger my anxiety.

Zelda and Rocket League do the same for me. I am either taking my sweet time exploring a bit of Hyrule, or trying to get one more victory. And that helps.

One thing at a time, mate. We'll get thwre and we'll be okay.

Re: Industry Tributes Pour In As Fans Mourn Manga Legend Akira Toriyama

daniruy

That was some sad piece of news on a Friday. I think Toriyama has been my most read comic book artist. I've read the entire Dragon Ball saga multiple times, as well as watched the films. Chrono Trigger is still one of my favorite games of all times.

If it was only for the drawings, that wouldn't be why he is so influential. It's the entire worldmaking. This incredible artist who inspires us so much might be on a similar level of Tolkien to me, with all the fantasy and the imagination as well as conversations with my brother and friends.

RIP and may God comfort his family, friends and us all.

Re: Feature: 21 Vintage Nintendo Games You Can Now Only Buy For Original Hardware

daniruy

Try buying Lufia 1 and 2 for SNES - which I have many times because I love those games - they are important to me because I played it with my brother, learned English partially through it (and Mega Man X) and love the soundtrack.

I think that, in cases like these, emulators should be "decriminalised", or else they will disappear indeed. I would love to play them with my daughters legally so I can teach them to value the industry and the people who make good things for our enjoyment.

Re: How To Prepare Your 3DS And Wii U For Retirement - Hard Drive, Battery, Backup Tips

daniruy

I love my 3DS. I bought it on week 2, all the way back in 2011 in Brazil. Then I moved to the UK and had to build my library digitally - due to the stupid region lock. I've been playing Game boy titles a lot in it.

Now, I've got a problem: battery. I have recently replaced it for a new third-party battery, but the console doesn't hold charge for more than 30min. Ié heard it might be the charger port that needs replacing. Did anybody do that already?

Cheers, folks - and long live the 3DS.

Re: The Nintendo Switch Is Officially Launching In Brazil

daniruy

Good for my countrymen! Although I would certainly appreciate if Nintendo released translated games in Portuguese.

Although, I must say, without that I had all the motivation I needed to learn English. I had to understand why Zero was so amazing and Mega Man X just blue.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask At 20 - The Enduring Appeal Of Nintendo's Strangest Game

daniruy

This is a very different beast from Ocarina. I remember (and still play) Ocarina of Time as a tale of joy - the boy who got a fairy, lost his infancy and recovered it back at the end.

I remember playing Majora e feeling a very different sensation. If was a fun game but not a joyful one. It was strange. I finished it when I was already an adult and I think this was the very game In which I enjoyed the side quests much more than the game itself.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Has Three Metroid Games In The Works, According To Leak Group

daniruy

Please, observe my avatar.

Now, remember that every Metroid game is at least very good (including Other M, in my opinion).

Then realise that Metroid Prime is, with Super Metroid, two of the best videogames ever created.

Finally, be comforted by the fact that those games will always be with us.

NOW SCREAM FOR ME NINTENDO LIFE!
METROID!
METROID!
METROID!

(Sorry, got carried away).

Re: Anniversary: Feel Old Everyone, Donkey Kong Country Turns 25 Today

daniruy

I still recall the ads, in 1994. I wanted this game so badly to play with my cousin.

There was this saying in Brazil, when one wanted to complain about public services: "Why make your life harder, if I can make it easier?" Everybody said that with maxed out sarcasm.

Now, Nintendo's ad for DKC was: "Why make your life easier, if we can make it harder?"

So DKC became my obsession for as long as I can remember.

Then it came DKC2.

And that, my friends, is the best platformer EVER. CREATED.

Re: Poll: Vote For Your Favourite GameCube Games

daniruy

Several of them games I played on the PS2 (which I still own) and on the Wii (as well).

But it saddens me that I had to skip the generation and play it during the Wii era because it was my University days and I had to study Biology instead of playing Metroid Prime.

Re: Play Your Nintendo 64 On Modern Displays With The Super 64 HDMI Adaptor

daniruy

I am really keen to support this new not-so-emerging retro industry but £150 for the cable it's a bit much. So far, products that offered me the level of experience I want for a price I am not bothered about - even though it's expensive - it's the Super Analog series. I am craving the Super NT and the new Mega Drive one. I shall wait for the N64 one - because it is, by now, only a matter of time.

Re: Soapbox: My Love Affair With Tetris, Probably The Best Video Game Ever Created

daniruy

Like you, Damien, I was given a game boy in the early '90s and carried on playing Tetris until... Well, I still play anything Tetris related (provided I have BUTTONS and not touch screens) very often.

I adore Tetris. My wife is not a gamer but she does play Tetris - the original on my 3DS when she feels like playing. She is not bothered by any other versions but that Game boy one. She even undergoes theological digressions on the nature of Providence by analysing the tetrominoes falling down from heaven - and it's up to us to make them fit in our reality even when the game (life) is insanely difficult.

I suspect I will say, one day, that Tetris is the ultimate videogame because you can take it everywhere, it's very adaptable, it's entertaining and can even give us food for thought.

I dare not saying it's the greatest, yet. Because I am 33 and I hope I will see great stuff in the upcoming years.

Super Mario Galaxy 3, get in!
