Cooperating properly with third parties (of which, EA remains the biggest) for all titles, but perhaps especially sport titles will be crucial to the success or failure of NX. It still won't be enough to persuade me back though. After Wii U (which, just to clarify, I do like and do enjoy several games on), I don't feel like I need a console in addition to a PC again (I have a gaming laptop that I plug into my TV).
Extending the sports paradigm a little, there's one thing that could persuade me to jump onto the NX bandwagon. If 'NX Fit' and 'NX Sports' are launched then they need to be fully integrated with eachother - sharing data, etc. and recording it for all participants against their user profiles (something that doesn't even happen within multi-player (-user?) Wii Fit U at the moment). They also need to integrate with the major fitness apps (e.g. Endomondo) and wearables (e.g. Fitbit). I know I'm in the minority to still be using Wii Fit regularly but the fitness market is huge and if Nintendo can get this right it could be a very strong way to 'become part of people's daily lives' as we're always told that they want to. Given that we've recently been told the QoL thing is unlikely to happen, I can't see any reason not to do this.
My first console, and possibly still the one I had the most games for. Also my younger brother's first and I had friends who had one. Curiously enough, I don't think I knew anyone who had a Game Boy.
I'm interested to see reviews of the two VC titles, which I know nothing about.
Does anyone know what's happening with Trine? Last thing I saw was on their own website:
"Sorry for the delay! We’re working very hard and doing our best to get Trine Enchanted Edition released for the Wii U as soon as possible, but we have not set a release date yet. We did hope to get the game released on January originally, but unfortunately we experienced some delays that prevented this from happening. We hope to still release the game during this winter. Thank you for your patience."
They obviously missed the winter window, so any news - why or perhaps even what's causing the delay - would be welcome.
I'll certainly keep an eye out for reviews if and when it launches. I think it's unfortunate that people can praise an 8-bit or 16-bit pixel aesthetic but aren't yet prepared to give a 64-bit 3D aesthetic any credit. (Of course, if I'm wrong and it is just poor programming rather than intentional design then that's another thing entirely).
I am very, very bored of pixel art games. I'm old enough for it not to seem that long ago that we praised pixel art games (or just 'games' as we called them then) for their amazing, ever more realistic, graphics. As such, novelty or nostalgia this sort of stylisation might have once had wore off a couple of years ago. That said, this does look pretty polished and I'll keep an eye out for it.
Now, what happened to Trine? wasn't that meant to be coming out for Wii U this winter?
I'm a big fan of Kirby but not of touchscreens so, barring some ridiculous offer at some point in the future, I think I'll be holding out on this one and looking towards Yoshi instead.
I'll be picking up Kirby at some point - it was something I wanted but couldn't get on Wii since it went out of stock so quickly in Europe. With no discount now though there's now rush. I'm guess there maybe some kind of Kirby-themed offer later in the year when Rainbow Curse eventually launches anyway.
Poor apology that's come far too late in the day. Are we honestly meant to believe that they've had significant resources committed to developing this up until very recently? Then they have the gall to say 'don't worry, you can have this other, unrelated thing, on a different product, to make up for it'.
An app that incorporated iPlayer, 4od, etc. I thought was a great idea and something to look forward to when buying the console in 2012. I'd long since given up on it ever arriving but to tell me I can have something else, that I have no interest in, if I go out and buy a 3DS, is insulting.
Muramasa, The Last Story and Fire Emlblem are all titles I struggled to find at retail and so missed first time around. I'd snap them up if they were given a download release.
Madworld, much like Red Steel 2, was a criminally underrated game - in terms of sales at least: under-retailed?
About time - Club Nintendo Europe has been a complete waste of time since the transition to the new hardware generation and the inability to use stars to purchase games. Coming so hot on the heels of the end of the Wii U Premium deal hopefully this signals an intention to rectify that glaring omission.
That 'Silly Rabbit' thing... I know it's U.S.American and I know it's a common reference over there but, well, could someone please explain it to me? I'm 35 years old and I've never understood it!
Taking inspiration from games is one thing but I do wish developers could be more creative with their names.
Frenchy Bird... Hollow Knight... The first thing I think is 'that's an uncreative title designed to make me think of another game, why should this game be worth my money if it's not distinctive and the developers want me to think of another game when asking for my money?'.
And not even a mention for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (or other exclusives such as Lego City and Zombi U, for that matter).
I have to wonder though if this is really that different to previous UK info-graphic campaigns. Indeed, I wonder if this would make me want a Wii U if I stumbled across it not already knowing all of these things (and owning one). Eurogamer did a nice feature yesterday on the history of Playstation marketing in the UK which really puts Nintendo's efforts to shame.
@Assassinated Completely agree with you. There's arguably too much focus on multi-player these days when I suspect many game players still play on their own. Games should be reviewed according to their own merits or otherwise.
@ThomasBW84 'There's nothing else like this on Wii U'
Maybe I'm missing something but isn't this not that dissimilar to a 3D Toki Tori? Admittedly, I'm only basing that on my Super Mario 3D World experience.
@AJWolfTill Hadn't heard anyone was doing that. In some ways I'd be surprised if it's happening since GW have dropped it from their website. I'd definitely be interested in it though.
I couldn't care one way or another about character DLC but as I've said before an adventure mode, even at £20 or so, would encourage me to pick up the game. If the dual-release and restrictions of the 3DS were one reason for not including a proper single-player mode this time around then surely Wii U-only DLC would get around that problem?
Sadly, I won't be getting this. I was excited when it was announced but the lack of a good single player mode means I won't get as much playtime out of it as Brawl. I have enough trouble persuading my girlfriend to play Mario Kart. Of course, we've known for a while that there wasn't an adventure mode included this time but I still hoped to see something about the single player experience in the review. I guess there simply isn't one.
Still, I'm going to keep hoping for an adventure mode DLC. If that arrives then I'll buy the game.
I can't see Watch Dogs selling anything other than abysmally. Hopefully Ubisoft realise their own role in any poor sales. That said, it's great to see that they've offered the DLC, seeing as that's a common complaint for other games on the system... not that I'll be buying...
I just hope it doesn't get lost in Europe the way that the Wii Kirby game did. If they released that as a digital download on Wii U I'd buy it in an instant.
Exactly right. I was one of those idiots that fell for Nintendo's proclamation of strong third party support for the Wii U ahead of its launch. The first games I bought were Darksiders 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3. I think it was actually over a year of owning it before I bought a first party game.
I eventually saw the error of my ways though and when it came to replace my laptop earlier this year I went the extra mile with a custom-build and now plug that into the TV via HDMI for all of those 3rd party releases I want. Not ideal but it gets the job done.
Does Nintendo not take note of holidays and traditions around the world? Delay it by 24 hours and more people in the UK will get your message (or does this just mean that Nintendo has given up on the UK market?).
Hopefully it does signify some kind of attempt to offer more support in future. They can't really believe that these will sell well at full price so long after launch.
I can't actually say that I'm interested in any Activision titles but it's good news nevertheless. The last disc I bought for my Wii U was Darksiders 2 and I don't plan on buying any more. Even that title I'd probably buy again as a download if they reduced it.

Quite possibly the most negative video game review I've ever read and if the images are anything to go by it's entirely justified.
