I honestly can't understand why anybody would pay money for stuff like this in 2018 when there are so many awesome games to play on the Switch already.
I can only speak for myself: I haven't had this much fun since HeartGold with the Pokéwalker, thanks to the great graphics, the fact that I can finally play a normal Pokémon game on TV - and the awesome Pokeball controller!
First of all, being able to control a whole game with only two buttons? How old-school and cool is that?!
And second, I feel like I'm really in the game with it! I throw it, it rumbles, I can hear the little critter's cry inside of it, it lights up in many colors, and I can take a 'mon with me on a stroll IRL.
I took one yesterday, just out of curiosity. I was hoping it would level up a bit. And when I put it back into the game today, it levelled up from 4 to 19! Hahaha, it instantly became the strongest member of my group!
I also love the fact that I can take out any Pokémon to walk/fly/levitate by my character's side.
All in all, I was a little sceptical, too, but this game proved to be the most fun for me in a very long time!
Of course, without the Pokeball controller, it would probably be a less rewarding experience - I'm glad that I pre-ordered the two together.
I really think people shouldn't listen to the critics and try it out for themselves.
I still have no idea why a game like Pokémon needs to be more "friendly and accessible".
The series are literally about 10-12 year-old kids.
It cannot get any friendlier than that.
Pokémon games are the easiest RPGs.
I used to complain about the Switch becoming the dustbin like Steam - but I don't anymore. I realised, the more games there are, the lower the average price will drop and the better sales we can expect with time.
@Jokerwolf : I'm 38 and I'm getting it for myself. (Finding a good deal helped, though. I'm basically getting the ball for ~35 USD if I detract the game's price from the bundle.)
@gortsi : I have all the other consoles. Since I have a Switch, I rarely use them. It's that good. I just wish I could play those high quality third party games on it, too, that I can't right now. I literally would rather buy any multi-platform games on the Switch, that excellent and versatile I find it. For me, it's a whole new era of console gaming. I've been waiting for that for a long time. So naturally, I'd like every possible game to appear on it.
@gortsi You just disparaged the best selling video games which means you think low of most gamers. It's as if you say, Hollywood pictures are trash, go and watch art movies. Sure, some people will. But the majority won't. For a reason. If you can't see that, you're naive.
I didn't say there aren't any good third party games on the Switch. I'm saying there aren't enough. I'm happy for the success of the Switch. But I think it deserves more than half a dozen old ports from other consoles.
"It's evident indie games are selling well on the Nintendo Switch with ongoing reports of successful sales, but why exactly do these games continue to perform so well on this particular platform?"
Because real, big third party games are very rare on Switch.
I would love to play the Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Far Cry, Just Cause, Mafia, Red Faction, Madden NFL, NHL, Project Cars, The Crew, Tom Clancy's, Tomb Raider etc. games/series on the Switch - but I can't do that, can I?
And in the absence of high-profile games, what do grownups have? Nintendo's first party titles are fun and colorful and mostly aimed at youngsters. Not everybody wants that all the time. So people with a Switch have to turn to these indies.
Personally, I think they should be fillers, not the main attraction of a console. They would still produce better sales numbers than on Steam because the Switch is more versatile.
The majority of console owners are grownups. (The average age is probably even closer to 40 than to 30.)
We really, really, really need more third party AAA games on the Switch...
@koekiemonster : not just more features but more VC games at the launch of the service than Switch will totally have in its lifetime... (And even when they'll terminate the online features, you can still play them...)
What I don't like is, that so close to release date, there is still no pre-order price given for the game in my country (Hungary). That usually means webshops won't have it at launch.. I really hope that's not the case because ordering an English language one from the UK would take 3-4 weeks to arrive...
I pre-ordered the game+Pokeball bundle in Hungary for 25.980 HUF which is ~70 GBP. I guess that's a good price then. I got an email later saying the price will go up but I'll still get the bundle for that pre-order price. I really hope so now..
That being said, when I got to know that the Pokeball Plus isn't just a novelty item but a controller and also a "living" pokeball, I pre-ordered it with the game.
So I guess I'm gonna have fun with that even when I play the game in decked mode, too.
(Otherwise, I'd use my Pro Controller for sure.)
JoyCons are only a valid controller option in handheld mode. As a table console controller, they suck. We've been waiting for a proper, fully fledged Pokémon game to play on TV for 15 years.
I've played through the first one on X360 and own the second one on the 3DS but still might pick this collection up physically when it's on sale. (And Lego games will always go on sale.)
Even Dreamcast games would be too expensive at that price... Oh well, the Megadrive Collection will still be sweet on the Switch. 40 games for 30 bucks. I can hardly wait.
I'm a huge (professional) sumo fan but have never found a video game that came close to replicate the complexity or even the spirit of sumo. There was a side-scrolling adventure/fighting game on Gameboy Advance which was somewhat good. And there was a sumo game on the Wii but unfortunately, by the time I bought it, the new console generation was here and I didn't have much time to play with it. Maybe that was good, too.
Watching this trailer, this one won't be. At least, not for me. Because it's not really sumo. And looks uglier than the GBA one 15+ years ago...
It's so cool they promote the Switch version like this. It surely will help sales and will widen the fanbase. I love Civ and have played countless hours with each of its iterations - except this last one. This will be a win-win situation for me.
I really hope it'll sell well and others take notice. I would love to see you on Switch, Heroes of Might and Magic!
I have Fellaini out of these ones, played a couple of games with him. According to Futwiz, he's 89 OVR in my team with Gladiator modifier. Bought the card for 80k. It's pretty good.
"Also, if we want the console market to continue to innovate, they need a revenue stream that is dependable and predictable."
Or, you know, they could just make great games...
I, for one, am not interested in renting retro games, which service can literally end at any point where I would just stand there without any retro games.
Thanks but no thanks. I really hope Nintendo Online will be a failure.
If they can't learn what makes a service a service, they don't deserve the money for it.
@Trajan : do you know how Nintendo's 3D technology (unlike the ones used in TVs where you need glasses) makes your eyes' focus shift?
Well, after a year or so of using 3DS with 3D, my eyes stayed that way in real life, focusing a little bit beside each other. Since then, I have a hard time focusing on the same spot with two eyes. Never had that problem before. And I'm not a child (who Nintendo doesn't advise to use 3D technology), I was already in my 30s when this happened. I'm 38 now and no doctors or new glasses could help much. I'm doing eye exercises every day which seem to help a bit - but I doubt my sight will ever be as it used to, before buying the 3DS. :/
The 3D effect on my 3DS console crippled my sight. Just like while watching the 3D screen, my eyes started behaving like that in real life: focusing on slightly different points and not at the same point anymore.
And there's no remedy, no surgery to correct it. I will have to live like that for the rest of my life.

Maybe not for everyone and not for the same effect but I surely won't touch VR.

@KryptoniteKrunch : I agree, it's not fair.
Since this is a remake, it should be compared to those, like HG/SS or OR/AS.
Let's Go beat both.

Civ VI's controls are easy and straightforward on Switch which is both important and great. I enjoy it a lot.
If they decide to release the previous games on Switch, I would buy them all.
Seriously.
Make that happen, guys.
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th November (Europe)
This is Switch's strongest week for me with a Pokémon game (finally, it took 1.5 years...) and Civilization VI (one of the best strategy series ever).
I pre-ordered both physically but because of a supplier problem, I'll only get to play Civ VI this week.
