Re: Soapbox: Don't Listen To The Pokémon: Let’s Go Haters - The Game Has Definitely Found Its Audience

construx

I can only speak for myself: I haven't had this much fun since HeartGold with the Pokéwalker, thanks to the great graphics, the fact that I can finally play a normal Pokémon game on TV - and the awesome Pokeball controller!

First of all, being able to control a whole game with only two buttons? How old-school and cool is that?!
And second, I feel like I'm really in the game with it! I throw it, it rumbles, I can hear the little critter's cry inside of it, it lights up in many colors, and I can take a 'mon with me on a stroll IRL.

I took one yesterday, just out of curiosity. I was hoping it would level up a bit. And when I put it back into the game today, it levelled up from 4 to 19! Hahaha, it instantly became the strongest member of my group!

I also love the fact that I can take out any Pokémon to walk/fly/levitate by my character's side.

All in all, I was a little sceptical, too, but this game proved to be the most fun for me in a very long time!

Of course, without the Pokeball controller, it would probably be a less rewarding experience - I'm glad that I pre-ordered the two together.

I really think people shouldn't listen to the critics and try it out for themselves.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th November (Europe)

construx

This is Switch's strongest week for me with a Pokémon game (finally, it took 1.5 years...) and Civilization VI (one of the best strategy series ever).

I pre-ordered both physically but because of a supplier problem, I'll only get to play Civ VI this week.

Re: Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

construx

@gortsi : I have all the other consoles. Since I have a Switch, I rarely use them. It's that good.
I just wish I could play those high quality third party games on it, too, that I can't right now.
I literally would rather buy any multi-platform games on the Switch, that excellent and versatile I find it.
For me, it's a whole new era of console gaming. I've been waiting for that for a long time.
So naturally, I'd like every possible game to appear on it.

Re: Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

@gortsi You just disparaged the best selling video games which means you think low of most gamers.
It's as if you say, Hollywood pictures are trash, go and watch art movies.
Sure, some people will.
But the majority won't. For a reason.
If you can't see that, you're naive.

I didn't say there aren't any good third party games on the Switch. I'm saying there aren't enough.
I'm happy for the success of the Switch. But I think it deserves more than half a dozen old ports from other consoles.

Re: Indie Devs Explain Why Their Games Are Successful On Nintendo Switch

"It's evident indie games are selling well on the Nintendo Switch with ongoing reports of successful sales, but why exactly do these games continue to perform so well on this particular platform?"

Because real, big third party games are very rare on Switch.

I would love to play the Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Far Cry, Just Cause, Mafia, Red Faction, Madden NFL, NHL, Project Cars, The Crew, Tom Clancy's, Tomb Raider etc. games/series on the Switch - but I can't do that, can I?

And in the absence of high-profile games, what do grownups have? Nintendo's first party titles are fun and colorful and mostly aimed at youngsters. Not everybody wants that all the time. So people with a Switch have to turn to these indies.
Personally, I think they should be fillers, not the main attraction of a console. They would still produce better sales numbers than on Steam because the Switch is more versatile.

The majority of console owners are grownups. (The average age is probably even closer to 40 than to 30.)
We really, really, really need more third party AAA games on the Switch...

Re: Video: Learn How To Be Victorious In The Switch Version Of Civilization VI

construx

I really like these video tutorials.

What I don't like is, that so close to release date, there is still no pre-order price given for the game in my country (Hungary). That usually means webshops won't have it at launch.. I really hope that's not the case because ordering an English language one from the UK would take 3-4 weeks to arrive...

Re: Circle Of Sumo Is An Obscure Fighting Game Arriving On Switch eShop Next Month

construx

I'm a huge (professional) sumo fan but have never found a video game that came close to replicate the complexity or even the spirit of sumo.
There was a side-scrolling adventure/fighting game on Gameboy Advance which was somewhat good. And there was a sumo game on the Wii but unfortunately, by the time I bought it, the new console generation was here and I didn't have much time to play with it. Maybe that was good, too.

Watching this trailer, this one won't be.
At least, not for me. Because it's not really sumo.
And looks uglier than the GBA one 15+ years ago...

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Has Stumbled With Switch Online, But It Can Learn From Its Mistakes

"Also, if we want the console market to continue to innovate, they need a revenue stream that is dependable and predictable."

Or, you know, they could just make great games...

I, for one, am not interested in renting retro games, which service can literally end at any point where I would just stand there without any retro games.

Thanks but no thanks.
I really hope Nintendo Online will be a failure.

If they can't learn what makes a service a service, they don't deserve the money for it.

Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion - Experience The GameCube Classic The Way It Was Meant To Be Played

@Trajan : do you know how Nintendo's 3D technology (unlike the ones used in TVs where you need glasses) makes your eyes' focus shift?

Well, after a year or so of using 3DS with 3D, my eyes stayed that way in real life, focusing a little bit beside each other.
Since then, I have a hard time focusing on the same spot with two eyes. Never had that problem before. And I'm not a child (who Nintendo doesn't advise to use 3D technology), I was already in my 30s when this happened.
I'm 38 now and no doctors or new glasses could help much. I'm doing eye exercises every day which seem to help a bit - but I doubt my sight will ever be as it used to, before buying the 3DS. :/

Re: The Man Behind SNES Star Fox Talks About The Nintendo VR Console That Never Was

construx

The 3D effect on my 3DS console crippled my sight. Just like while watching the 3D screen, my eyes started behaving like that in real life: focusing on slightly different points and not at the same point anymore.
And there's no remedy, no surgery to correct it. I will have to live like that for the rest of my life.

Technologies based on fooling our sensory organs are damaging.
Maybe not for everyone and not for the same effect but I surely won't touch VR.
I tried it once. I immediately felt how awful it was for my eyes.
My sight is much more important than such gimmicks.

Re: Switch Pro Controller Has Just Under 500,000 Registrations On Steam

construx

I didn't even know I could do that!
I use an Xbox 360 controller on my PC with the adapter (which is pretty hard to find in my country).
For me, that used to be the best controller (and I used them all).

But I like the Pro Controller a lot since the day I bought it!
If it had triggers on the back instead of buttons, I would say it's perfect. But it's pretty close as it is.

Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop

construx

I don't want to rent 20 year-old games.
I would like to own them on the Switch which is the ultimate console to play a lot of game types on, including retro.

But since everyone and their mother already bought those games a gazillion times before, how about giving us the opportunity to buy them in collections cheaper, or at least sell them at a competent price?
E.g. 1-2 bucks for 8-bit games, 3 for 16 bit, 4-5 for 64 bit and so forth.

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

construx

"Up to this point, Nintendo has resisted offering a premium online service"

They still don't offer one.

"The best part is, it doesn't really offer anything less."

Unfortunately, it does offer much less.
Apart from the added games' value (which would justify the price difference in itself), as far as I know, Nintendo didn't set up a dedicated server park so online experience will not be any different from the ones on Wii or Wii U or 3DS. It's still peer to peer.

What I don't understand is, why exactly they are charging money for online gaming.
I can't seem to come up with a better answer than "the others do that as well"...

Re: Cities: Skylines - A SimCity Successor That Struggles To Shine On Switch

construx

A puzzle game that you could run in your browser, where the only goal is to push different colored balls on a grid, gets a 7 here.

And then one of the all-time best city management simulators gets a 5...

I would ask, based on what, but I'm afraid, they'd try to explain. Please don't.

Reviews here really need a pricing section to differentiate between indies and normal games because it's just a ridiculous chaos right now.
