The Italian-based independent game studio Yonder has revealed it is bringing its new game Circle of Sumo to the Switch eShop next month on 16th November. The title originally started out life in Rome as a Global Game Jam project.
It's described by the developer as a local multiplayer fighting experience for up to four players, where sumo wrestlers attempt to push each other out of a ring. In total, there are eight sumo and 25 arenas to select from. If that wasn't enough, there are also six minigames that reimagine many sports like football and hockey. Two of these are single player games. Unfortunately, there's no mention of an online multiplayer component.

Are you excited to sumo wrestle your friends and family on the Nintendo Switch? Tell us below.

So it's StreetSmash?
Yikes !
Btw, play as Two E.Honda on Street Fighter games is MUCH better than Circle of Sumo.
Looks like fun actually. Will keep an eye out for it.
Good lord, these flash player games need to stop. The Switch is inundated with them.
I've spent almost every waking moment since the Switch was released wondering when a top-down sumo wrestling game would finally make its way onto the system. Today my prayers have been answered!
@Gen0neD
Agreed. I refuse to buy crêpe like this. Huge nope. I wish Nintendolife would stop putting plugs in for rubbish games, and showcase stuff that's actually exciting, or pushing the envelope. I feel like the question they always ask about the game "Are you excited for blah blah? Tell us below." has got to kill them inside, when they write it.
@Gen0neD we ask them to stop but they gave us SUMO
"obscure" That fits a good bunch of eShop releases 🙄
I would have loved this to have online multiplayer.
If it's not Sumotori Dreams, then I don't want it.
Not my cup of thea
If its under a fiver i'll think about it. A few bits look like gta with sumo's and no blood or guns looks like fun. Sadly it's multiplayer and talking 3 other friends into playing it may not be easy.
The drought is real.
The variety of arenas and modes actually looks pretty nice and the game is well presented but it's essentially a Mario Party minigame at its core by the looks of it. Nifty, but asking any more than £5 for it will be a bit much.
The drought is indeed real.
Is Smash here yet? 😋
I'm a huge (professional) sumo fan but have never found a video game that came close to replicate the complexity or even the spirit of sumo.
There was a side-scrolling adventure/fighting game on Gameboy Advance which was somewhat good. And there was a sumo game on the Wii but unfortunately, by the time I bought it, the new console generation was here and I didn't have much time to play with it. Maybe that was good, too.
Watching this trailer, this one won't be.
At least, not for me. Because it's not really sumo.
And looks uglier than the GBA one 15+ years ago...
This looks like a crappy Mario Party Mini Game....

I've been waiting for a new sumo game, though it's a bit different than what I had in mind. Seems like a game you'd pick up and play ever so often. I do hope the price tag isn't too high and that it can at least be played with CPUs.
It's been eating at me for a while (which is pretty much why I'm finally commenting here), but are some of the sumo characters supposed to be references to actual wrestlers? I'm pretty sure that Night Hunter (who shows up around 0:40 and 1:01) looks just like Manny Yarbrough, an American amateur sumo wrestler who I used to love and look up to, until he passed away near the end of 2015.
It looks really good for a local multiplayer game.. I’ll buy it if it’s in the $5 range
Haha, I really like the look of this, definitely something I'd pick up in a sale. I do feel sorry for the joyless souls that look down on stuff like this.
Are sumo wrestlers really made of rubber mommy?!?
Ah, yes. Sumo: Italy's trademark sporting event!
It looks like fun, but, I just wish it was online.
