Re: Review: Root Letter: Last Answer - A Clumsy, Laughable Stab At A Visual Novel

It's becoming harder and harder to take a NintendoLife review seriously.

You gave a 5 dollar game, where you can push different colored balls and do nothing else (which gets crazy boring after 5 minutes), an 8. (Joke of the year?)

It's also common knowledge that "if it's an ugly indie game, it's an 8" here.

We all also know that if there's any sign of nudity - NL will judge that game from a high horse (while never having any problem with games showing violence, murder etc.).

I also get that you despise VNs for some reason.
You gave Kotodama a 3 or 4, which is just as ridiculous. (I'm 20 hours into that game and enjoy it more than any ugly 8-bit indie you've ever given an 8 or higher.)

I honestly feel sorry for people making their decisions about buying or not buying a game based on your reviews.
I really do.
They miss out on good ones and may waste a lot of money on worthless ones.

Oh for crying out loud Nintendo, prevent the abuse of eShop offers already!

Those games that are on sale more than 4 times a year, should automatically have their price reduced permanently!

The eShop is borderline unusable as it is.
Enough is enough!

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Sold 41.67 Million Units Worldwide, First Switch Lite Totals Revealed

construx

@m8e3point1415 Wow, that's good to know!
I'm not waiting for 4K games (that will probably be Switch 2), because even the PS4 Pro can't do that and it's not realistic to expect more than a 40-50% performance upgrade in a mid-generation machine (especially with Nintendo).

Stable 720p 60Hz in handheld and 1080p 60Hz in docked mode would be enough for me. (While hopefully maintaining the longer battery life of the V2 Switches.)

@fafonio I live in Hungary (not exactly the most advanced country in the world) and we have a minimum of 30mbps speed internet available in 80-90% of the country.
I think delay is the key word in making or breaking a cloud gaming service.

I actually can't wait for xCloud to come to Switch. We would finally have the sort of AAA games we'd never have a chance otherwise to come out on the Switch.

Re: Get Up To 90% Off Select Nintendo Switch Games With Merge Games' Anniversary Sale

@Ventilator Sure. I use this site for comparing eShop prices:

https://eshop-prices.com/

(Actually, not the main site, as it's a huge info grid. I rather bookmarked my wishlisted games on the site in my browser and I just have to refresh those pages from time to time. But this is just a technicality.)

This page has also helped me save a bit of money by comparing the eShop prices by countries, using a common currency.

The page you referred to, howewer, also has price history, which could be an immensely useful feature for me about predicting next sales. Thank you again for that.

Re: Get Up To 90% Off Select Nintendo Switch Games With Merge Games' Anniversary Sale

construx

@Ventilator I wish this site would list these non-Thursday sales.
Since I buy a lot of games, games with a reduced price is in the top 2 priority for me (next to the new releases).

It's great to read other articles, too, but this information is sadly missing here.

Constantly making these newly discounted games out of the hundreds already on the offers list is really, really hard and time consuming.

Re: Negative Feedback Gets Us Down But Must Be Taken On Board, Says Pokémon's Junichi Masuda

I watched the new Digimon game trailer and couldn't help but think, wow, that's how a similar adventure game can also be?!

The story looked fresh, clearly aimed at a more mature audience.
I mean, the average video gamer is around 30 years old now.
Yet, we become 10 years old (and get treated as such) by every.
single.
Pokemon.
game.

For me, that formula seems way too tired by now.

I have never played a Digimon game in my life (while played all Pokemon mainstream games) - but I think it's time for a change.

Re: Oops, Switch Dating Sim Summer Sweetheart Uses Music From Nihon Falcom Titles

construx

Now I'm really glad I've already bought it.

This game is insanely fun. It's so bad, it's actually good!

English translation was probably made by Google translator, in-game situations and conversations sometimes make absolutely no sense.
Your character needs to get upgraded (like in Sims) on a daily basis.
Women are real actresses (not drawn manga girls) and they are dubbed in their own language! (So, a Japanese girl speaks Japanese by a[nother] voice actress!)
Sometimes (like, when "you" open the door), you can see the shadow of the camera, too!
It's hilarious!

Other than that, the game is as erotic as you expect a dating sim to be. But finally not with seemingly underage cartoon girls!

It's weird, it's unique, it's funny (not always intentionally)!
I love it!

I wish there'd be more games like this on Switch!

Re: Who Needs A Game Boy Classic Edition When You've Got The Analogue Pocket?

construx

@StevenG : I have a lot of GB/GBC/GBA carts.
NeoGeo was never sold in my country and GameGear was never big. I don't have any games for the former (I don't even know any games for that system) and I only have a couple of GG games which are, in my opinion, terrible to play and aren't worth a new system to play on anyway.

Those who want a system to play those non- Nintendo games on, will now have a very good chance, too, yes.

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th October (Europe)

construx

I pre-ordered and already tried A Winter's Daydream.

It has the worst saving system I've ever seen in a visual novel - as in, it doesn't have any...

It also doesn't have voices.
Of course, the latter is understandable at that low price point.

So far, it doesn't have choices or branches, either.

Apart from that, it's quite enjoyable and I really like some of the background music.

I bought many worse games for 5 euros.

Re: UK Charts: FIFA 20 Stays Top Of The Table As Zelda: Link's Awakening Takes A Tumble

construx

I actually bought the Switch for FIFA. It was a good choice since the other console versions had been plagued by the built-in cheating system for years and I'd had it enough on X1. The Switch versions were better in this aspect and they also had a much more fun gameplay in my opinion.

To this day, 18 and 19 sit on top of my Switch library with 1500+ hours in each.

For me, it's infuriating that EA effectively killed FIFA on Switch with this updated roster called "FIFA 20 Legacy Edition". For the first time in 7 years, I didn't buy the newest FIFA.
What a shame.

On a side note: for those who complain about the series being the same every year - it's not.
Obviously, the Switch FIFA 20 is identical to the 19 (minus kits and roster updates) but the non-Legacy Editions are different each year.
If you don't know the difference, you are probably not interested in the game or you're just not a very good player.
Also, every iteration has live effects, both in Online Divisions and FUT which reflect the real football games played every week during the whole season.

Re: Review: FIFA 20 - A Shamelessly Cynical Attempt To Swindle Switch-Owning Footy Fans

construx

There's no need for a review. This is not a new game, just a roster update.
(This is not a Switch-related insult, though, these "Legacy Edition" roster updates for full price are painfully common in EA Land..)

It's a shame, though. The Switch version of FUT online was the least infected of the built-in cheating system that had been plaguing the other console versions for years.

Well, goodbye fun, goodbye FIFA!
I'm not buying those other versions because the cheating there is ridiculous - and I'm certainly not gonna pay that much for a roster update on Switch.

It's too bad. This was the only fun version of FIFA left and EA killed that, too...

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th September (Europe)

construx

  • EA killed FIFA on Switch. Full price for an updated roster patch? Hahaha, no, thank you!
  • I pre-ordered DQ XI - but it will only arrive next week, just like most Friday-released games. Where I live, even the local video game stores rarely receive those games in time. I hate Friday release dates with a burning passion.
  • Will pre-order A Winter's Daydream soon. If I remember correctly (I might not), this one didn't have a pre-order sale last week but since now it does, I won't think about buying it any longer. Thank you, publisher! Good job!

Re: Sid Meier's Civilization VI Expansion Bundle Releases On Switch This November

construx

I'm sorry but the pricing is not clear to me.
Will the expansion pack alone (without the actual game) cost 50 dollars?
So the game plus the DLC would cost, like, over 100?

Is this the same price as on the other consoles?

I'd be glad to buy the expansions but certainly not at that price.
At that price, I'd rather buy Civ V or a complete package of I-IV. They should release those older games, too, they're awesome.

Re: Review: Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast - Amazing Lightsaber Combat Ruined By A Terrible First Act

construx

@Snakesglowcaps Thank you!
That price is a bit steep so I'll stay on the X1X for the Star Wars fun.
They did an incredible work with the enhanced backwards compatible games! You should try them!

It's a bit ironic that I use the so-called "most powerful console" primarily for prevgen and retro gaming but they are immense fun and the enhanced games look better than ever!

Re: Video: How The CPU Used To Cheat In Street Fighter II

@outsider83 Or Shao Khan beating you in 3.5 seconds with unbeatable combos... Ah, good times.

I remember buying Mortal Kombat for the Nintendo DS to be able to play MK on the road - and then selling it the next day because difficulty was that frustrating...

Thankfully, the PS Vita version of 9(?) is among the bests so I can now play MK anytime. (I didn't like X because it looked too brutal to me so I won't buy 11 for the Switch anytime soon..)

Re: Wall Street Journal Report Says Nintendo Tried To "Aggressively" Cut Costs Of The Switch Lite

construx

I don't know about other countries but in mine (Hungary), you pay the price difference of one AAA game and you can buy the real Switch with the full functionality.

As for me, I'd think about buying the Lite as a second Switch console if it was ~125-150 pounds but with its current price (and possible controller drifting problems), I see absolutely no reason to buy an inferior product.
