Re: Switch OLED Upgrades Reportedly Cost Nintendo "Around $10 More Per Unit"

clvr

@WhiteUmbrella @NEStalgia seriously, it's quite sad to see that everyone thinks this is how the world should work period.
I knew we were indoctrinated into the system we live in since we were kids, but turning customers you only see as potential profit into staunch defenders must be some kind of neoliberal wet dream!

Re: Round Up: The Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Reviews Are In

clvr

What the hell even is a review in progress, IGN? Are they taking the p*ss? I mean, this is not a live service thing.
Is it just a "couldn't be arsed to wrap it up by launch day so screw it, let's publish an unfinished article to get 'em clicks"?

Re: Nintendo Won't Say Whether Switch OLED Joy-Con Fixes Drift, So Don't Count On It

clvr

I mean, if Exxon can get away with publicly admitting lobbying against climate change legislation and manufacturing "forever chemicals" which are wrecking our bodies and the environment, and all that with pretty much no consequences or even push back, well, then I guess no, Nintendo isn't likely to solve this slimy situation anytime soon.

Re: Soapbox: Super Metroid Showed Me I Had The Right To Exist

clvr

I'm a progressive dude so don't have anything against the article or the subject, but boy is that title cringeworthy.
Like, seriously, come on.
How can you think "yeah, that's the right title for my article, it's gonna be taken seriously now"?
It just gives more ammo to the "is this Kotaku?" crowd, not a great move in my opinion.

Re: Mini Review: DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One - Rip, Tear, Repeat

clvr

@scully1888 the chainsaw does exactly that, replenish ammo.
If you find yourself with an empty gun, in this game it's always 100% on the player.

@Edu23XWiiU exactly, it's the pinnacle of FPS for that reason: it's not just a bunch of random enemies and weapons, it's a delicate balance of everything having its own role to play in each encounter.
No other FPS I've ever played does this, at least to this extent (and I play and love A LOT of FPS games).

Re: Mini Review: DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part One - Rip, Tear, Repeat

clvr

@Edu23XWiiU yeah that makes no sense whatsoever, considering you also have a portable ammo generator in the shape of a chainsaw.
Also the turret has been tweaked so that you can one-phase it on Nightmare, if you're good enough (it takes two Precision Bolts on Nightmare, and only one on UV and lower, if I'm not mistaken).

It reminds like a year and a half ago when everyone was complaining about the limited ammo and crying about the Marauder, then everyone learned to play lol

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

clvr

@Tandy255 I'd be glad too, if ut were an actual conversation.
This reads more like indoctrination to me, using poor arguments to substantiate, basically, "Metroid is worth $60 dollars cause I said so, please feel good about parting with your money".
It's just plain gross, and predatory towards the younger and/or more susceptible fanboys.

Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

clvr

I mean, I get being a fansite, but you're really turning into Nintendo's defence force.
It's absolutely embarrassing that you feel the need to whiteknight a business decision like that, unprovoked even.
It's just ridiculous, I've lost the small smidgen of appreciation that I had for you.

P.S.: I obviously agree and will likely buy it day one, since it's freaking Metroid 5.
To go to these bootlicking lengths, and make it like you're some zealot if you disagree, is plain embarrassing and condescending.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Irritation At Speculation Over Bayonetta 3

clvr

@Slowdive getting at? You replied to me and I spelled out the marginal difference between four years of wait for SMTV and four years of wait for Bayo 3, simple as that.

As for defending Kamiya, I don't even know where you take that from. I was just comparing the little info we've had with the little info we gad for SMTV as well, and that is gonna turn out just fine; as well as pointing out that it was Nintendo who unveiled the thing, not P*.
So, in the end, what are you going on about? D'you need a Kit Kat mate?

Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Irritation At Speculation Over Bayonetta 3

clvr

@Slowdive 1) "pretty much nothing" =/= "nothing"

2) "a number of trailers": in 2018 we were told that development has begun, and in 2020 we got the first trailer

This is what I was getting at. It's not complete radio silence, but it's very close if you consider this is the only info we got in 4 years.

"According to someone in the know the game had a restart of development. We were not informed about any of this. It's utterly disgraceful. In short: they are burning bridges by lambasting fans for being concerned. Terrible PR."

Ah yes, someone on the internet said the game was restarted, so let's take that as gospel. 😂

We were not informed of something that probably never even happened?
And why do you feel entitled to be informed of every stage of development? Do you understand how ridiculous and pretentious that sounds?
Do you get why people use "gamers" as a pejorative?

Re: Hideki Kamiya Shares Irritation At Speculation Over Bayonetta 3

clvr

@Benjinat SMTV also showed pretty much nothing for 4 years and I was starting to worry, but then BOOM! November date at E3, the game is ready!

To be honest it's better this way, and I would've preferred not to see BOTW2 if I knew it was gonna be 2022. I'd much rather a blowout near release than neverending teasing.

P.S.: (not necessarily aimed at you but everyone) Kamiya may not be the most likable dude ever, but before throwing him under the bus remember when and why Bayo 3 was announced: it was simply a big name for Nintendo to advertise Switch as it was releasing.
So if you wanna blame someone, blame the publisher who actually unveiled it.

Re: Random: Fortnite's Ska Dance Emote Foreshadows A Ska Revival

clvr

@imgrowinglegs yeah they do, I absolutely love 'em!
Such a shame they haven't put out anything in 6 years or so, but Matthew was teasing a couple months back so who knows!
Coincidentally I just ordered a limited hoodie from their store last night as soon as it came back on sale ahahahah

Re: Random: Fortnite's Ska Dance Emote Foreshadows A Ska Revival

clvr

I've never been into ska but I really, really like Streetlight Manifesto, so I'm glad to see shoutouts in here 😃
I personally find them way more interesting and dynamic than the other few bands I know in the genre; I recommend checking out their animated music videos, they're super cool!

The only other ska-related band I listen to is Rx Bandits, one of my all-time faves, though to be honest I like their material from the 3rd LP onward, which is when they left ska punk for a progressively more and more prog-oriented punk.
Mandala is one of the best albums I've ever listened to, hands down, and it has wonderful cover art to boot too!

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Release Date Worries Me, But Hopefully I'm Wrong

clvr

"Pokémon Sword and Shield were heavily scrutinised for what fans believed was a lack of overall polish and quality, with aspects like re-used animations and that blimmin' tree generating much discussion. Personally, I actually thought Sword and Shield ticked all the boxes and if it weren't for all the negativity online beforehand, I'd never have given things like these a thought while enjoying my playthrough."

Glad you don't review games, then.

I agree with your main point, GF had a unique chance to put out a game on their own terms (or at least, less shackled to merchandise than usual), and are likely gonna squander it by releasing this so soon.
I just don't get why, BDSP come out just two months earlier.

Anyway, I'm expecting a very rough game with a couple interesting ideas and bad execution, let's hope they can surpass them.

Re: Rumour: Sonic's New Game Might Be An Open-World Adventure, Called Sonic Rangers

clvr

Boy is Sonic Team a bad idea machine.
How is it possible that they've been puking out the most nonsensical and worst ideas possible for 20 years and they still exist?
Seriously, name me another long-running franchise that's as much of a Frankenstein's patchwork monster of terrible ideas that don't belong.
It just boggles the mind, cause if people on a forum can see that it's stupid, how can veteran game devs not?
Sonic Team, you'll never cease to amaze me.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Teases Exciting Announcements For 35th Anniversary

clvr

@VoidofLight Well, DQ certainly isn't the most original series out there, but what's way more important than originality is execution, which is something at which DQ excels at.

On the other hand, I've played plenty of experimental games with a cool idea but terrible implementation.
Depends what you're looking for, and what the game wants to be.

Re: Somebody Recreated DOOM Eternal In Labo Garage VR, And It's Really Something

clvr

@rjejr ah yes, I didn't specify it but I absolutely didn't mean that I'd expect you to recognize it right away, if you haven't played Eternal.

I just wanted to point out that it is indeed Eternal, but obviously you can't be blamed for not recognizing it before playing 😃

Btw go on and get it, what are you waiting for?!
It's the best FPS of all time hands down and one of the best games in recent years, just approach it with the mindset that you're gonna die quite a lot and constantly learning and improving your technique.
I know I'm making it sound like a Soulslike, but to be honest I'm not even a big fan of those.
Eternal is just awesome 😃

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

clvr

@BloodNinja 1) "the "take things while lying down" thing is being severely misused."
Sorry for not being native, I guess?

2) the screenshot wasn't there initially, giving us readers no way to know that Nintendo was being accused by anyone.
Damo says just as much in his reply, so again, if you don't know the context don't jump to conclusions.

3) funny how I'm "jumping at Damien's throat" for asking him to embed a screenshot necessary to get the context, but it's okay for you to treat me as if I was insulting him pr something.
I simply expressed my dissatisfaction at the choice to muddy the waters and present incomplete information, that's all.

4) your telling me how bad I am for expecting some quality in NL's reporting has been going on for longer than my complaint to Damien. Pot, kettle, and all that.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

clvr

@BloodNinja I'm not his boss and you're not his bodyguard, I think he's more than capable of fending for himself 😛

Btw I simply voiced my disappointment as a visitor of the site, is that not allowed? If it isn't, it still isn't your job to put me in my place, there are the mods for that.

If you don't know the context, don't jump to conclusions: I had a similar conversation with Damien just a couple days ago, on an article where I and a lot more pointed out the clickbaity title.
Damien kindly replied owning his mistake, and we're all good.

Thing is, if a few days later the same happens again, am I giving him grief for nothing or am I justified in feeling a bit led by the nose?
Am I not allowed to voice dissatisfaction just because you say so?
Is it not fair for me to want this site to keep a high quality standard as it has pretty much always done?
I'd get it if I insulted anyone, but I'm not even angry or whatever, just disappointed.
If your solution is "shut up and take it lying down", good for you, but I don't do that for things I care about.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

clvr

@Damo heh, I appreciated it last time but it can't become the norm now.
If it happens from time to time fine, but you can't expect to put out trashy clickbait and only ever retract if and when the readers complain; it's like having your cake and eating it too.
Wanna put out clickbait? It's not a problem, at least be upfront about it, don't make it look like it's a whoopsie every single time.

I mean, in this case it was the matter of a screenshot, we're not talking having to trim down a 1000-word article. All that was needed to give context was that one screenshot.

And lastly, the fact that I easily took the whole accusation thing as a fabrication on your part (before ypu added the screenshot) should tell you enough about how trustworthy and "stretchy" the site has become.
