Re: Best Of 2020: Sam Barlow On Bringing Telling Lies To Switch, His Directing Style, And His Next Project

clvr

@Zidentia it is indeed.
It may not feature combat or traditional mechanics, but that doesn't mean it's not a game.
The game consists in finding info and piecing it together in your head, until you have a clear enough vision of what happened in this story.
Think of it as a detective game where you actually have to deduce things.

So yeah, it's a great game cause it succeeds at what it wants to do, and is a completely different experience from just watching the whole thing unfold in order.

Re: Random: Epic Games Apparently Still Needs Your Help To "Free Fortnite"

clvr

@LilMuku you didn't understand a single thing going on here, so let me explain:

1) Fortnite was published on the App Store, which means Epic had to sign a contract with all the terms specified there, cause Apple is providing a service and Epic is agreeing to pay for that;

2) Epic knew they had to pay 30% of their IAP revenue to Apple as per contract, but still decided to "act smart" by trying to bypass the App Store and get all the revenue themselves. Do I have to explain why that is bad and an utter breach of contract or do you at least get that?

3) now they have the gall to act like Apple is the big greedy b*stard, which is beyond hypocritical and infuriating; judging by your comment, though, it seems that unfortunately they're managing to convince people that they are right.

Re: Try Your Luck In Roguelike Deck-Builder Dicey Dungeons, Rolling To Switch eShop Today

clvr

@Achilles1984 you're welcome!
I was able to find a sealed copy on my country's Amazon discounted to +/- 30€, and I'd say the quantity and quality totally justify that price 👍🏻

@Strumpan it really is! I tried it out of interest in turn-based RPG's and demonology/mythology, and came away mind blown.
It's a shame that Apocalypse falls into the more typical "teen doing stuff" than the more mature and nuanced storytelling of IV, but on the other hand the new gameplay features make battling and fusing demons even more awesome.
Let's hope that V captures the best of both!

Re: Try Your Luck In Roguelike Deck-Builder Dicey Dungeons, Rolling To Switch eShop Today

clvr

@Achilles1984 hey there! Of course, my friend: I've recently bought Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition as it was very cheap on Amazon!
Don't be fooled by the title, this is actually two games in one: Cyber Sleuth, and the side story Hacker's Memory, which according to HLTB are at least 50 hours each.

Right now I'm on Chapter 3 of CS, so yeah, lots of game still to play 😅
I'm really liking it at the moment, it's got some of the typical JRPG limits but the battling, evolving/devolving and customization of your Digimon is super addicting.

Other JRPG's I played on Switch and can recommend are Octopath Traveler, South Park: TSOT (if you like SP), and all the Shin Megami Tensei you can get your hands on when 3 R and 5 release next year.
SMT4 still remains as my favorite turn-based RPG ever, and I'd lap it up again if they ported that as well lol

If you like strategy, Valkyria Chronicles is also pretty good (and I'm not even a strategy game buff), while a game that disappointed me to no end is Ni No Kuni: I wanted so bad to like it, but the combat is simply ateocius. Seriously, I don't know what they were thinking with that system.
It broke my heart but I had to put the game down after 5 hours, and I'll never touch it again. It's sad cause rarely I've been let down this much by a game, as I do substantial research beforehand. Oh well.

By the way, the next JRPG's on my list, aside from SMT, are Dragon Quest XI (have yet to play it, but I'm a DQ fan and I've loved all the DQ games I've played), Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Bug Fables; other than that, I'd love to try out Persona on either my PC or a Playstation.

Re: Try Your Luck In Roguelike Deck-Builder Dicey Dungeons, Rolling To Switch eShop Today

clvr

YESSSSSSS!!!
I was just wondering about it when I read about the Direct, and I was a bit miffed that it wasn't there.
But this is an even better surprise!
Not only do we have a release date, but it's today? That's awesome!
The only unfortunate thing is that I've just started a pretty huge turn-based JRPG and I don't like overlapping games in the same genre or style.
Well...I guess I'll wait for a sale and save some money in the process 😄

Re: Sephiroth From Final Fantasy VII Joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate This Month

clvr

@Tsuchinoko hey there, sorry but I went to bed before I saw your reply ahahah
Btw I like some of your picks, I would love to see Takamaru or some old Nintendo character reinvented like Pit and Duck Hunt!
Those two are my favorite characters in the game, and Mr. G&W is not that far off...so yeah, I like me some retro characters ahahahah

Re: Sephiroth From Final Fantasy VII Joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate This Month

clvr

This is stupid, if you ask me.
I mean, at this point there are inly so many slots, and we already know that we'll almost certainly never see such a big Smash again, so I thought it'd only made sense to expand to as many different companies and franchises as possible.
If you really wanted some more FF, why 7 again?
And yet, here we are...sigh, if we didn't get the Doom Slayer today we will never have him 😞

Edit: well, at least now we can expect that the next three will also likely be unpredictable wild cards.

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

clvr

@TG16_IS_BAE hey mate, how's it going? 😃

Well, it's a very complex topic so I'll just tell you that:
1) I've always considered myself apolitical, I've never been erudite and motivated enough to consider myself left-wing or right-wing, and have grown up in a context where I've been exposed to both faces of the coin; that's to say, I may be wrong about politics as I'm pretty ignorant, but I'm probably not biased;

2) I've followed Peterson's speeches on YouTube for a pretty substantial period of time, so I'm familiar with his themes and way of explaining them, and more often than not I found myself agreeing with him;

3) that said, when I started noticing his way of conflating marxism and post-modernism, which are pretty mutually exclusive philosophies, I did what any curious people would: look up both and see whether he was wrong in conflating them, or my knowledge on the matter was erroneous;

4) I started from there and found several interesting videos and articles on the topic which educated me about marxism, post-modernism, and ultimately where Peterson's logic fails
(PhilosophyTube, Lindsay Ellis and Contrapoints all tackled this angle on YT with very substantial videos);

5) ultimately, I extended my research to see if I was "bamboozled" by Peterson on other subjects, and let's say that I don't exactly trust him anymore.

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

clvr

Nothing to do with the movie or even the racist situation (I don't wanna touch that with a barge pole honestly), but I wanna point out how I've seen the term "post-modernism" a few times in here and it seems like people, as usual, don't have the slightest idea what it means, judging by the fact that I've seen it associated both with authoritarianism and the left, which is incredibly funny.
If you knew the first thing about post-modernism, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't preface it with a political attribute.

Make up your minds, people, or, better even, read a philosophy book.
And to those who associate post-modernism to the left in particular, stop listening to the old hack that is Jordan Peterson 😉

Re: Review: Immortals Fenyx Rising - An Off-Brand Breath Of The Wild That's Still Worth A Look

clvr

@KnightsTemplar nah it's not Soulslike, this is just a terrible review.

NL probably think that having a light attack, heavy attack, dodge and parry automatically mean Soulslike, but it's not.
It's bog-standard action RPG fare, with those four basic moves plus special abilities on a cooldown. Nothing revolutionary, but SkillUp for example praised it in its simplicity and focus.
What I'd advise you to do is look up some combat clips and see for yourself if the flow of it looks up your alley 😃

Re: Feature: DOOM Eternal Finally Gets A Switch Release Date - We Speak To Port Wizards Panic Button

clvr

@okeribok ah I see!
If it can be of any help, I'll tell you that setting up a Switch Pro Controller is pretty painless on Steam, since it's officially supported. Basically you just connect via USB or Bluetooth, and Steam does the rest without external software, which is a big plus for me cause I'm not really a techhead and I'm pretty lazy lol

From there, you can set the gyroscope to act like a mouse from the Steam Big Picture settings, and that's all 😃

The only problem I've had is that some games don't seem to take it too kindly when two different inputs for the camera are working at the same time, so they basically conflict with one another and you cam "feel" something "keeping the camera in place" while you're trying to rotate it with the stick.
The first person games I've had this issue with are Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4, Prey and Dishonored 2 (but not 1, for some reason; I don't have DOTO so I don't know about that).

Everything else, from Wolfenstein TNO & TOB to Post Void, Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, SUPERHOT MCD, Portal, Rage 2 and Titanfall 2 all worked perfectly 👌🏻
Others I can't recall, but these I'm sure.

Re: Buy DOOM Eternal Early On Switch And You'll Get DOOM 64 And 'Rip And Tear' Pack Free

clvr

@Jakiboy no you're not 😃
I got into the series after 2016 hit, so for me DOOM has always been a gory power trip where the demons are afraid of the Slayer, and it was very surprising to me to find out 3 is an entirely different beast and that the original vision for 1&2 was probably more akin to 3 than 2016.

That said, I can totally get why you'd be disappointed in such a drastic difference, although I personally am glad with what they went for.
I also like tense FPS like Metro, for example, but those have existed for a long time, while the "modern shooter with 90's sensibility" is something very recent and rare.

@OorWullie yeah 64 is freaking amazing, definitely my favorite classic DOOM, although I love 'em all for one reason or another (aside from 3, I have it on Switch but have yet to play it).

Re: Feature: DOOM Eternal Finally Gets A Switch Release Date - We Speak To Port Wizards Panic Button

clvr

@okeribok hey there, what controller are you using on PC?
I ask cause I've been playing on PC with my gyro-enabled Switch Pro Controller for a year now, and it's super comfortable dor shooters (especially as I can't use KB+M for the life of me lol).
If you don't know how to configure gyro aiming on Steam, just tell me and I'll try to help you out as best as I can 😄

P.S.: gyro aiming also works with a DS4.

Re: DOOM Eternal Blasts To Switch In December - Check Out The New Trailer

clvr

@Wolf_Link same, I will double dip on Switch if they ever release it physically.
I'm not one to double dip usually, and while I prefer physical I also use digital, but I really would've loved to have this game as a physical copy on Switch to go with DOOM 2016 physical, and the digital version of the older 4 games.
DOOM is one of my favorite franchises ever, so I'd really like to have it all on one console (portable no less!).
