@TheMegaMarshtomp I think Nintendo was freaking out about the future after the Wii U (and rightly so) and thought mobile was necessary to their survival. But after the Switch exceeded expectations I don't believe they feel producing mobile games is a must.
I can't imagine Nintendo announcing a Switch successor before the holiday season that doesn't come out until 2024. Would likely sabotage both current and future hardware sales.
I'm no lawyer, but I don't understand how this kid has standing to sue when he was spending his father's money. The whole case sounds like lawyers trying to squeeze a settlement out of Nintendo.
I have a Super NT from Analogue and it's great. But I'm just not interested in the Pocket because of the form factor. If it had a horizontal orientation like a GBA and could play games from other systems I'd give it a serious look. As it is I'll stick with my modded GBA with an IPS screen.
@TheFrenchiestFry All of that is true. However, it's also possible Ocean was limited in what they could do by DC/WB. That's part of what happened to Titus in the disaster that was Superman 64.
Don't forget originally Donkey Kong was supposed to be a Popeye game. Shigeru M. really wanted to do a Popeye game, but King Features, who owned the rights, didn't think it was worth the trouble. So he replaced Popeye, Bluto, and Olive Oyl with his own characters. When King Features saw what a massive hit DK was, they were more than eager to make a Popeye game. So we ended up with two classic arcade games.
Mario has been around longer than 35 years--the sale brochure/flyer for Donkey Kong in 1981 referred to him as Mario the carpenter. It's only Super Mario Bros. that is 35 years old.
@Aaron09 Most of the top ten Wii U games were bundled with it at some point as well: Mario Kart 8, 3D World, Nintendo Land, Mario Bros U, Luigi U, and Mario Maker that I can recall.
I don't think the Steve Jobs comparison is particularly apt. Nintendo was around a long time before Miyamoto, and he's never been a CEO. Sure his creative contributions have been invaluable, but they've developed other very successful franchises besides those he's been directly involved in.
@super08mario That's the real reason. Gamestop is already struggling and corporate management knows if they shut stores they won't be in business much longer. They're still going to take a hit due to less traffic, so it may not matter.
