The Puyo Puyo handheld pictured was released in the US by Tiger under the name Puyolin. It looks very similar, but it's blue instead of black with the text on it in English. I have the US version. It's decent, but not that great. Puyo Puyo is much more fun as a vs. game.
Edit: Telling from a hiragana-romaji converter, the text on that Puyo handheld actually says "Puyorin".
@bezerker99 It's similar to the arcade Vs. Excitebike, but the FDS version has 2p modes and completely different music (including tunes that play during the race). The arcade music is the same music as the NES version of the original Excitebike.
@Hero-of-WiiU SoA posted on twitter that 3D Gunstar Heroes is coming this week and Freedom Planet WiiU is also slated for the 20th. I read the WiiU version of Woah Dave (cross buy with the 3DS version) should be coming too.
Surprised the results of the US Splatfest haven't been posted on Nintendolife yet. Marshmallows won. Marshmallows were more popular, but Hot Dogs had slightly more wins.
I doubt the games are released as stand alone to localize the game since some were already available on DSiWare before the collection was released. Some games were just recently released as stand alone in Japan and some games have stand alone sequels that were never part of the collection (though those are JP only for now).
Disappointing news. Looks like I'll be waiting for the WiiU version to come out before I get it. Any news on a release date for Mutant Mudds SC? I was hoping for an update since June has passed, but nothing.
I wish they would let M2 do more of the emulations. Sound is off in Game and Watch Gallery 3 and they STILL haven't added multi to the GB emulations, despite PC emulators supporting it. M2's Game Gear emulations support multiplayer. M2's recent console emulations have more screen options too.
@ottospooky Last I checked, they still haven't announced the US date for Devil's Third, at least I can't find info on it anywhere. I expected it to at least be announced after E3, but still nothing.
@ikki5 That's not a direct link to the site. http://supermario.nintendo.com is a direct link to the US version. It's not clear that the link in the bottom of the article is supposed to be a link to the site, just the source of where the video came from.
I don't know about 20 minutes, but both Z and Mario have a forced tutorial. Z also has a lot of RPG style dialog to go through before you get puzzling. Mario ditches the RPG overworld and gets to the game quicker.
While I agree that it has a lot of annoying stuff to put up with, I found the mobile game to be enjoyable and better designed than a lot of other freeinum games. It's possible to get far without having to pay, though it does have a lot of things designed to encourage people to do so (like limited box space and having to sacrifice monsters to level up). It also gets very challenging, while I heard Z's main game doesn't get harder until post game.
@Shiryu As far as I know, that's not correct. As far as I know, the lockout only applies to NTSC games on a PAL system, vice versa, and systems with modchips. I heard some games won't work if you bypass the CIC. Even games with a special chip like Kirby Super Deluxe work fine on a US SNES. I have early and late imports and they all work on US SNES. I also heard on the shmups forum that Chatting Parodius works fine on US systems.
@Ryu_Niiyama Just because a game an older import doesn't mean it's expensive. Some JP games are actually much cheaper than their US counterparts. Dark Half is dirt cheap at japangamestock and ebay. It's also very easy to mod a US SNES for imports (just remove two tabs from the cart slot), so no need to buy a SFC. That said, I stick mostly to shmups, action games, pinball, etc since they don't require reading JP text to play.
I'm also excited to see a game that wouldn't get a translation otherwise get a fan translation.
@Bass_X0 That's true (though there are separate pages for NA and EU), but 3D Fantasy Zone II W came out both regions. It's reasonably priced and it's the arcade style sequel that the original FZ should have had back in the day.
I think this project is pretty cool since it's one person who programmed it on his own, but I think the Game & Watch Gallery collections/recreations for GB and DSi are a good solution for a cheaper version since most of the recreations are pretty accurate (though classic Mario's Cement Factory on Game & Watch 4 was messed up. Thankfully, the DSi version is close to the original).
@dariusq The problem with that logic is that many of the games still play quite well, especially games like Greenhouse and Donkey Kong. Not to mention that the clones of games are often missing the charm of the original. Some later games like Climber are more complex.
@Windy As I said a few posts earlier, the 3D Outrun date is on Nintendo's website. Considering it just appeared there (a day or two ago, it still had the placeholder date of March 31st listed), March 12th is the likely date.
Wow. Only 10% for Fantasy Zone? I expected more votes for this awesome game in Sega and M2's 3D Classics series. Aside from FZ, I also ordered a physical copy of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
Interesting. Some versions of the GB b/w Link's Awakening had a glitch where you could skip over a square of map area by pressing select at the edge of the screen.
Not just with Wii U, Ubisoft seems to have been making excuses in general as of late. The explanation on why Assassins Creed Unity has no female characters was also lame.
I'm on the fence. Also, while I get the point you are trying to make (the game is more Dynasty Warriors than Zelda), the JP version of the game, Zelda Musou, does have "Zelda" in the title.
ugh. I have Luigi Bros on Wii U, the Kirby Dream Collection, Play Action Football on NES, various versions of SMB and Zelda 1 (including NES cart and 3DS VC), Super Punch Out on SNES, and Pictobits. The only one I don't have in some form is Touch Solitaire, though I do have other Solitaire games similar to it. It's also one I don't care to get as a reward since it's dirt cheap outside of Club Nintendo.
Zen Pinball 2 update is now live in the US. It updated a bit late today, but I checked and Walking Dead, Deadpool, Dr. Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy are now available.
Q*Bert was Parker Bros, not Coleco. Unlike Donkey Kong, the Coleco DK Jr. is actually Nintendo's own DK Jr. Tabletop with different artwork. It was made by Nintendo, but published in the US by Coleco (a good decision to go with Nintendo's design since it's awesome, though). The Mini Arcades were good stuff, though. I have the Galaxian one. It's not very true to the arcade, but it's a lot of fun. It also has a SI clone as an alternate game mode.
I hope these Mini Arcades stay true to the originals. It is disappointing that Excalibur's Frogger used a shell similar to Coleco's (though with licensed technology from Nintendo with a similar set up to Nintendo's tabletops where they were non-lit, mirrored color LCDs with a spot to let light in), but was different from the Coleco tabletop.
I like the SMS quite a bit. It's home to some sweet games like Wonder Boy III, Fantasy Zone I and II, Govellius, Kenseiden, Black Belt/Fist of the North Star, Rambo II/Ashura, Enduro Racer, Lucky Dime Caper, Land of Illusion, Phantasy Star, and Sonic 1. I like how most EU games work on the US SMS.
I also have the JP SMS for stuff like the full 10 level Enduro Racer and FM sound. I have a tototek adapter to play US and EU games on it. I like playing games like the US Fantasy Zone II with FM sound. The only US/EU games that removed FM sound are Ys and Phantasy Star. Even some US/EU only games like Time Soldiers, Rampage, and California Games play FM sound on a JP SMS.
This explains why the SNES version's sprite was changed from the Amgia original. The original game has a goofy looking guy with a green hat. The "the arcade game" part of the title is very misleading since there was an actual Buck Rogers arcade game from Sega that was a precursor to Space Harrier.
I know in a couple older baseball games like Famista '90 for Famicom (probably the original RBI Baseball for NES, as well) and Sports Talk for Genesis, you win if you get over 10 runs without the other team scoring. It's not a glitch in those games, just an odd rule.

Too bad a certain other game with the name Kung Fu in it isn't on the VC. Irem's Kung Fu/Kung Fu Master/Spartan X is good stuff.

Re: Dark Half Is A Twisted SNES JRPG From The Makers Of Wonder Boy, And It Now Has An English Translation
I do agree the SNES isn't as pretty as the EU model or the JP SFC, especially my SNES, which I had since launch. Still works well, though.

Feeding Frenzy isn't completely original either. Shark Shark on the Intellivision did the small fish eat smaller fish and grows bigger gameplay first.
