Pretty soon Kirby will turn 23 in the West, and Nintendo of America has announced that the mascot will have a a few classics on the Wii U eShop this week to celebrate. The download update is on 30th July, a couple of days before the 23rd Anniversary of Kirby's Dream Land being released in North America.
As you can see in the teasing tweet below, NoA isn't yet ready to spill on what those three games will be.
We've had a little look at which Kirby games have arrived on the Wii U eShop in Europe but not yet in North America, as that could point to which titles are coming. It seems there are three games yet to reach NA - Kirby's Epic Yarn, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and Kirby Squeak Squad. That doesn't mean these are the three games, but is perhaps a reasonable bet.
In any case, all will become clear later in the week; which past-gen Kirby titles do you want on the eShop?
With thanks to Ryan Millar for the heads up.

More evidence, that their might be a direct this week!
*there
Happy B Day Kirby
@TheAceofMystery I just can't imagine a new direct before they have a new president. Also: Some of these games are out in Europe. Don't think they'll make too much of a big deal about it.
Kirby's Return to Dreamland hasn't reached the US eShop yet either. I hope it's one of the game since the retail release is a bit pricey.
@ThomasBW84 NA also don't have Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Kirby's Adventure Wii in Europe).
As for my prediction:
Kirby 64
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Kirby's Epic Yarn
I think NoA almost have to release Epic Yarn given the huge delay for Woolly World.
What? No mass attack?
I still own Epic Yarn, and will get it again, just cause it's one of my favorite Wii games
my guess is
kirby Wii(return to dreamland)
one of the DS kirby game
Kirby Epic yarn
Still waiting for Kirbys air ride
Airride?
Kirby's Avalanche is also missing.
@HyrulianOfHyrule Hah! Beat me to it.
Will buy Squeak Squad immediately, pick up a discounted K64, and continue to use my perfectly functional disc copy of Epic Yarn. This is great news all around.
Now, about Zero Mission...
@Sir420
Sorry but hey we are on the same boat waiting for old GameCube games
I'm not interested in these three if there are coming. But I've been wanting Kirby Superstar for a while so I'll get that.
I'd love air ride!!!
23rd anniversary? That's a tenuous reason to celebrate. Seems more like an excuse to dump some KIrby games onto the eShop that NA has lagged behind on.
Grabbin' me Squeak Squad (Mouse Attack for you European folks). The other two I already have.
@HyrulianOfHyrule Me too. I've yet to see the cheers going on around that one.
@emayer You only get one 23rd anniversary. Just because it isn't divisible by 5, doesn't mean it is any less important. But yeah probably an excuse to put up virtual console games that should have already been on the console.
Already have all three of those games not in NoA, so I'm hoping it's something else (I don't have Canvas Curse...though after Rainbow Curse, I'm not too sure on that one...)
Cross checked the list of Kirby games with the list of games available on Wii U Virtual Console. Removed the titles that are less likely (requires peripherals, Japan only, system not confirmed for Wii U VC, etc.) and here's what I got.
Kirby's Avalanche (Super Nintendo)
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Nintendo 64)
Kirby: Canvas Curse (Nintendo DS)
Kirby: Squeak Squad (Nintendo DS)
Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii)
Kirby Mass Attack (Nintendo DS)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Wii)
With Wooly World coming out soon, I'm guessing one of them is going to be Epic Yarn. The rest seem to me like equally likely releases except for maybe Avalanche and Mass Attack.
@Samuel-Flutter Yeah, you're right. Divisibility by five is pretty arbitrary. They should've waited for the 28th anniversary, as 28 is perfect, just like King Dedede!
bleagh Kirby
Hoping for both of the Wii games, as I don't own these yet. The third one can be whatever.
For a long time Epic Yarn was seemingly available everywhere for $15. RtD we bought used for $45 about a year after release.
So I'm guessing Epic Yarn. Though Wooly World does give them a valid excuse. We own both on disc but we may need Kirby 64. I'd get Mass Attack on Wii depending on the price. Have there been DS games on Wii U VC?
And they need another Nintnedo Direct so they can start off by saying "We aren't talking about NX today". That should replace the "please understand" meme which really needs to be retired w/ Iwata. He always seemed sincere when he said it, I'm afraid anybody else would just be going thru the motions. So @Ryno get on that. Use this pic since it has Link in the background and they arne't talking about Zelda U either.
I guess it'll be another month at least before I get to experience the rest of the Golden Sun story.
Well then Happy Birthday
I've been hoping they'll release Kirby's Return to Dream Land so that would be real cool.
Always like to hear good news about the VC! I personally hope at least one of the games isn't on the Anniversary disc that came out a few years ago.
Hopefully we'll get Kirby 64, I missed it on N64 and I'd like to try it now!
Maybe get some more Kirby amiibo in stores? Shoulda gotten him when Toys "R" Us when I had the chance.
@pikminfan22 Heh, get it when you can. The magic is real.
@Captain_Gonru I honestly didn't think there was a chance, but I really hope so. I figure if these
They wanted to they could probably do GameCube the same way they do Wii games and maybe they'd even let us use the GameCube controller adapter to use gamecube controllers. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'd LOVE it!
@SushiGummy You're forgetting Kirby's Superstar Ultra! I know it's a remake of a SNES game that's already on VC, but it's one of the best Kirby games on DS!
Please be those three games.
Any Kirby Wii title would be favored, I'd say. Kirby's Epic Yarn floats around $20, I think, but Return to Dream Land is still around $40/$50! Just like Metroid Prime Trilogy, getting it at a reasonable rate would be aces.
No one celebrate 23rd anniversary, they released these Kirby games because of Mr Iwata. He was the CEO of HAL and responsible for Kirby's creation.
It's cool that something is coming for the VC, but I'm not a huge Kirby fan.
Dammit I wanted Return to Dreamland like Europe, I already have Epic Yarn and I hate it.
@Captain_Gonru if my options are
1-buy one of those hori GameCube looking controllers that really function as a classic controller to play GameCube games
Or
2-not get GameCube games
There's no question I'll pick the first option
Return to Dreamland, please!! I've never played it and that makes me quite sad.
The 3 are confirmed to be: Kirby 64, Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Kirby Squeak Squad.
@Captain_Gonru - "And wasn't there a Direct rumor floating around?"
I can't remember a day the past 3 years when there wasn't a Direct rumour floating around.
Gamecube VC would have made for a nice E3 unveil, but I'll take it now. Honestly they should use Iwta's passing as a way to get rid of ND and just post new info on their website or Facebook or youtube, or just have presentations at the other 8,000 gaming events not named E3. It seems like every other week Sony has a press conference. OK, maybe 25 other events, not 8,000. Who else can say Please Understand and have it seem sincere?
i wanted canvas curse more, think it's the best DS game, but the other two are very welcome.
@Captain_Gonru - I like the format as well, but I never liked how they sprung them on us w/ a day or 2 notice. If they renamed them "Nintnedo Presents" and did away w/ all the "directly to you" filler, and timed them to events like Gamescom next week, we could still get the format and the news but the NPs would get more exposure by being timed w/ the other events. The randomness of the NDs - monthly, every other month, every season, quarter? made them unreliable as a marketing tool. Let the ND's be Iwatas' thing, start something similar but new, w/ purpose. And if it's it for just 1 game just let them do a Treehouse. I think they had about 5 or 6 of those for XCX, I'm sure a few must be upcoming for SMM. Just don't call them Directs, it's going to make everybody miss Iwata and be needlessly sad.
I would love to play Kirby's Return to Dreamland, want to play it with my kids. I recently looked it up online and prices are surprisingly high for it.
Whatever they are, I'll take them
@Captain_Gonru - I'm surprisingly good w/ all of that and have nothing to add or subtract. Well done sir.
