Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Switch 1 & 2 Physical Release Does Not Include Mortal Kombat 4 On The Game Card

I would also argue that the whole “physical games are still a license” argument was never about preventing customers from accessing the contents of their physical media. That’s a retroactive justification that only came later to excuse publishers from unilaterally terminating the license on digital storefronts, later repackaged as “but you don’t really own it” to weaken consumer protections.

Lots of people arguing in bad faith on the side of the abusers as if it’s justified simply because they do it. Please show us on the doll where the publisher hit you.

And when you’re done with that, please tell me how Square-Enix can revoke my license to my physical copy of Chrono Trigger on SNES and make it unplayable. I see at least one person arguing this is possible.
Oh it’s only possible with newer, internet-connected devices? Well maybe we should strengthen up those consumer protection and first sale rights instead of shrugging our shoulders, doing nothing, and going “oh well, they had every right to do what they do.” That’s how we’re here today.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

It’s a fine system with a few flaws.
The screen is pretty bad from the few times I’ve used it, but I pretty much play in docked mode all the time.
My left Joycon2 will randomly not charge (either when connected to the system itself or to a charging controller). Disconnecting and reconnecting it has seemed to work so far. The firmware is up to date; this seems like a connector or communication issue.
The whole key-card thing. (No need to elaborate; everyone already knows)
There needs to be some smaller gap-filler experiences between big blockbuster releases.
There’s a pretty big lack of native Switch 2 games. I’d say 95% of my playtime has been Switch 1 games that have been fixed to perform better on the Switch 2 or ports. I don’t hate ports. I actually think they’re good for consumers, but they just can’t be the majority of your library.
There are other issues that aren’t specifically Switch 2 related but more Nintendo related issues that I won’t get into.
Overall it feels like what the Switch 1 should have been all along, which I suppose is a good indicator that you did something right.
The prices on everything are pretty shocking, but not unexpected, nor unjustified.

Overall I’m fairly satisfied with it. It feels like the proper, finished Switch console which the original was dragged down by poor performances.

Oh yeah, one last thing. You can’t just take Switch 1 game, slap a tiny isolated Switch 2 side content on it, and call it a Switch 2 edition. Stop it.

Edit: One last one last thing: Stop charging for tech demos. I know Nintendo is really proud of their Switch 2 ‘interactive’ instruction manual, but it’s not worth $0.99 let alone $10.

Re: Digital Foundry Covers The "Disappointing Tech" In Pokémon Legends: Z-A

The game does have problems, but there has been rarely a time when I’ve stopped playing for a moment to really think about something that’s ruining the experience for me.
I read the article about the ‘lifelessness’ of the NPCs being rooted in place, and at the time I hadn’t played the game yet, even reacting negatively towards the game for it based on the article alone. Once I actually began playing, it was a moot issue. There were a couple of times I stopped to go “oh yeah, wasn’t this a big deal?” only to conclude that, while yes it is a flaw, it didn’t detract from my experience in any significant way.
The lack of voice acting for important scenes is really the only notable issue for me that took me out of my immersion.
I think most of the big talking issues can be summed up with “oh yeah, and this minor thing also annoyed me a bit.”
Mind you, I’m playing the Switch 2 Edition, so I can’t comment on Switch 1 performance. (Going by previous titles on the Switch 1, I expect it to be an abysmal time.)

Re: "These Shouldn't Be The Only Games Being Made" - Keiji Inafune Critical Of Reliance On Big IPs

breach187

I think there’s a bit of a chicken and egg situation going on now because big publishers only really publish big game franchises, so the public has come to expect that all big publisher games need to be big budget games too, so big publishers only publish big game franchises.
There’s also a bit of a demand situation where if big publisher doesn’t publish big franchise game sequel, the public gets upset with them.
And of course the ever present issue of big publishers being risk averse, so they want to stick to what’s big and successful to minimize loss on more experimental games.
And lastly, big publishers have gotten into the habit of just buying up studios that have those experimental successes, sucking out anything useful and assimilating them into their own franchises, then discarding the empty husk.

Re: Square Enix Aims To Automate 70% Of QA With Generative AI By 2027

@Taya I don’t know why this needs to be continuously explained to people. Square-Enix, and other Japanese parties involved, don’t care about it being AI or LLM or generative or whatever the flavor term of the day is. They only care that the company is using their IP(s) in an unauthorized manners. They’re not opposed to AI, they’re opposed to their property being used without their permission.
