Re: Opinion: I'm Happy amiibo Survived The Console Jump, But These Unlocks Are Getting Silly

I like the figures as cool little Nintendo trinkets, but felt like the NFC part was largely superfluous and not worth buying them for. For a neat little $12 Nintendo statue they were a good value, for $30+ they are a ripoff.
Actual unlock implementation felt tacked on as an afterthought in almost every case. I just kinda stopped buying them. I’ve considered selling off my small collection but a part of me keeps thinking “these are neat little things to just have to display.”

I think the best implementation of them was the costume power up for Super Mario Maker 1, and I’m sad that was never carried forward into 2.

Honestly, I think they should unlock that specific costume for the main character in whatever game they’re compatible with. Like running around dressed as Twilight Princess Link in Metroid Prime 4 (don’t get too lost in trying to figure out how this would work, it’s just a fun little idea I put almost no thought into).

Re: Nintendo's Investors Are Reportedly "Spooked" As Stock Slides

I would rather there NOT be a Pokemon game this year if it means giving the team an extra year to polish it.

I hope this downward stock trend translates to good stuff for consumers, kind of like when the 3DS and Wii U were struggling. We got a lot of good stuff then as Nintendo tried to woo new players. I know the situations are different, but looking at it from a consumer-centric perspective, does that matter?

Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends Z-A Surpasses 1 Million Sales On Switch 2

For all its deficiencies, PLZA is still the best Pokemon game in my opinion. It’s just so much fun to play, and I struggle to go back to the traditional play style of the franchise whenever I need to check back in with SwSh or SV (on Switch 2).

It does have flaws and areas it can improve, but I don’t feel like they significantly detracted from the fun I had playing.

Re: Switch 2 Sales Reportedly Struggled Over The Christmas Period

@0_Cassiel_0 People (myself included) generally look for confirmation bias. NL could publish two entirely contradictory articles at the same time about how absolute amazing the Switch 2 is doing and how terrible the Switch 2 is doing, and the comment sections of both would be full of people going “I knew it!”

Re: Switch 2 Sales Reportedly Struggled Over The Christmas Period

Backwards compatibility with Switch 1 games is the only reason the Switch 2 sold as well as it did. 95% of the games I’ve played on the Switch 2 have been Switch 1 games with Switch 2 enhancement patches.
But while that’s good for sales, it’s not great for identity which sees the Switch 2 as more or less a Switch 1 Pro rather than a successor.
And that’s before you even start accounting for stuff like price increases, microSD Express, and game key cards.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Switch 2. I just want to love it more and I haven’t been getting good reasons to.

Re: Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Switch 1 & 2 Physical Release Does Not Include Mortal Kombat 4 On The Game Card

breach187

I would also argue that the whole “physical games are still a license” argument was never about preventing customers from accessing the contents of their physical media. That’s a retroactive justification that only came later to excuse publishers from unilaterally terminating the license on digital storefronts, later repackaged as “but you don’t really own it” to weaken consumer protections.

Lots of people arguing in bad faith on the side of the abusers as if it’s justified simply because they do it. Please show us on the doll where the publisher hit you.

And when you’re done with that, please tell me how Square-Enix can revoke my license to my physical copy of Chrono Trigger on SNES and make it unplayable. I see at least one person arguing this is possible.
Oh it’s only possible with newer, internet-connected devices? Well maybe we should strengthen up those consumer protection and first sale rights instead of shrugging our shoulders, doing nothing, and going “oh well, they had every right to do what they do.” That’s how we’re here today.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

breach187

It’s a fine system with a few flaws.
The screen is pretty bad from the few times I’ve used it, but I pretty much play in docked mode all the time.
My left Joycon2 will randomly not charge (either when connected to the system itself or to a charging controller). Disconnecting and reconnecting it has seemed to work so far. The firmware is up to date; this seems like a connector or communication issue.
The whole key-card thing. (No need to elaborate; everyone already knows)
There needs to be some smaller gap-filler experiences between big blockbuster releases.
There’s a pretty big lack of native Switch 2 games. I’d say 95% of my playtime has been Switch 1 games that have been fixed to perform better on the Switch 2 or ports. I don’t hate ports. I actually think they’re good for consumers, but they just can’t be the majority of your library.
There are other issues that aren’t specifically Switch 2 related but more Nintendo related issues that I won’t get into.
Overall it feels like what the Switch 1 should have been all along, which I suppose is a good indicator that you did something right.
The prices on everything are pretty shocking, but not unexpected, nor unjustified.

Overall I’m fairly satisfied with it. It feels like the proper, finished Switch console which the original was dragged down by poor performances.

Oh yeah, one last thing. You can’t just take Switch 1 game, slap a tiny isolated Switch 2 side content on it, and call it a Switch 2 edition. Stop it.

Edit: One last one last thing: Stop charging for tech demos. I know Nintendo is really proud of their Switch 2 ‘interactive’ instruction manual, but it’s not worth $0.99 let alone $10.
