In the run-up to its (surprisingly close!) July 29th release, Nintendo has revealed a brand new track from the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 OST.
Titled "The Weight of Life", the track is your quintessential Xenoblade music, with sweeping strings, thrashing guitars, and heaps of emotion. Indeed, Nintendo itself states that the track is a "moving song that expresses the emotions of Noah, Mio, and their friends as they fight their way through the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 3". So there you go - emotional!
Check it out:
It's not the first track to be revealed for the game, either. Just last week, Nintendo revealed "A Life Sent On", a song that was used during the initial reveal of the game back in February.
Speaking of music, Nintendo continues to be in the fans' bad books regarding the use of their original music. Most recently, a small YouTube channel had nine of its videos removed after Nintendo's lawyers called up the creator.
Still, we're exceptionally excited for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and we hope you are too; be sure to check out our guide for where to pre-order the game via the link below.

Finally the trailer theme!
Why did Nintendo post such a compressed version? Brings me back to the early days of internet...
Anyway, nice song!
Beautiful.
(But I need to type more for the character limit)
I kinda don't want to see or hear much from this game until I play it myself. Which may still be a while since I'm still going through the first game, and may pick up on either X or 2 after I'm done with that one.
Really loving that first game though. I never expected to get into it, but man did I get into it, what an absolutely beautiful game, I think it may become one of my top favorites. Never, ever expected to like it as much as I do.
This is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I have ever heard
@Yosher I felt exactly the same about the first game! You should definitely consider playing 2 next.
X is really great too and would highly recommend it, but these games are so long you might be waiting a while to play 3!
@Yosher the first one is a masterpiece in storytelling, soundtrack and world design. X is the second best, exploration, world design. Just having this sense of colonizing a new world is, nothing like I played before. X2 is great, but not amazing, since, sometimes the story is all over the place.
You’re gonna love the 3 of them. Good luck finishing them on time for 3. I envy you for being able to play those games for the first time.
@Shigmin I mean, I've waited many years, technically, to play the first game already. And I'll be experiencing all the games this way. When 3 comes out, it won't be going anywhere. And maybe by the time I get to 3, the potential DLC for that game will be out as well!
@YoshiF2 I hear X is sometimes overwhelmingly large though, so I'm not quite sure yet how I'll feel about playing that one. I do have it, though, so I can always give it a shot!
Will certainly see about playing, or at the very least, trying both of these games after I finish the first game.
Also don't envy me too hard; Smash Bros Ultimate spoiled a certain plot element for me real hard just by changing something regarding Shulk between Smash 4 and Ultimate. Not saying what it is for the sake of others who may read along, but I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about.
@Yosher I guess I know which one you’re talking about. But no worries, there are like 5 really big plot twists in that game.
About X… yeah, the world is big, but it’s designed that way so when you get your first mech it completely changes the way you play and explore. You do work a lot to get it, and that’s what it makes it so sweet and fun when you’re flying and driving one of those things.
And X2 I also remembered that the only thing that was a major let down was the atrocious English VO. Had to play it in Japanese. Other than that, you’re in for an excellent franchise.
@YoshiF2 i dunno why but I prefered much more the second over the first (characters, gameplay, soundtrack)... I still have to play X (waiting to arrite to Switch).. I hope the third blasts!! eager to play.
@YoshiF2 Ah, there's mechs in X? I'll admit.. games with mechs uuuuusually don't really do it for me, so I'll have to see if this game will be for me when I get around to playing it.
As for 2, I'm generally more lenient towards voice acting than most people from what I've seen, so I think I'll still play that game with English VO. If it's about the same as Pyra/Mythra's Smash Bros reveal trailer then I think I'll be fine on that front. Understandable that some folks wouldn't like it though.
@Minako you can edit afterwards and erase all the extra characters.
So, Nintendo posts all this music on Twitter, but they still haven't put their music on YouTube, Spotify or iTunes. I really don't understand them
Xenoblade has hands down the best music in gaming and Nintendo clearly knows.
Oh yeah, the song that featured in the release date trailer. This sounds like the XC3 equivalent of Engage the Enemy/Counterattack.
@Yosher I've played through XC2 in Japanese and watched a let's play of it in English, and while I find the Japanese VO to be better, the English isn't that bad actually. Especially some characters have pretty good voice actors in English, just not Rex or Pyra/Mythra imo lol
@TommyTendo I know the Pyra/Mythra Smash trailer is incredibly short compared to what XC2 has, but assuming you've seen it, is the performance in that trailer comparable to their (and Rex's) performance in XC2? If so then I don't think even Rex and Pyra/Mythra are voiced that poorly.
...it's also possible that I just have low standards on this subject.
Won't be listening to the song since I want to go in as fresh as possible to the game.
However, I have no doubt the game will deliver great music and a superb OST overall. Having recently played and completed Xeno2, I have to say a lot of the music in that game absolutely blew me away, with my favorite track probably being the theme of Tantal during the day.
Now if only Nintendo can get their stuff together regarding that preorder of the special edition...
@Yosher I don't remember it that well, but it could possibly be better in the Smash trailer since they were more familiar with their characters by then. Like, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity had better voice acting than Breath of the Wild
@Pillowpants Had you ever figure out that just cause you like all those things doesn't mean they had to? I don't even care about iTunes and Spotify.
@Yosher It always makes me happy seeing new people get into the series! (It's one of my personal favorites! ) But yeah, the voice acting from the smash reveal trailer is pretty in line with the XC2 voice acting for the most part. I don't really think the acting itself was bad it just had poor voice direction at times. Rex sort of falls flat on some of the intense scenes early game (especially compared to shulk) but I think he does improve a bit as the game goes on. But of course, you can be the judge whenever you get XC2.
@Serpenterror I never said they have to, I said I don't understand why they haven't. Video game music and especially Nintendo's OSTs are loved by many and not making them publicly available is a weird choice. Just because you don't care about iTunes or Spotify doesn't mean others wouldn't love to have Nintendo's music readily available there.
@TommyTendo Personally, I think the voice acting for both Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity were about equal. It just felt that Age of Calamity had more of it, because you weren't out exploring as much since it's either, you're fighting, or you're watching the story, and as such, the voice acting in AoC feels more memorable as a result, even if subconciously. That's my guess anyway, but from what I recall the voice acting in both games was great!
@Vortexeo Honestly, I had (and still have!) the original game back on the Wii, which I tried back then, but for some reason it didn't click with me at all at the time and I don't think I even got to colony 9 back then. And now I'm in Galahad Fortress (in the Switch version), to give you an indication on how far I've come now! (Don't spoil for me how much longer there still is to go, please, because it feels a bit end-game-y, but also kinda not, so I really don't know. XD)
And yeah, I do have XC2 actually. The only thing I don't have is XC2 DLC, because I never got around to playing it. And speaking of the DLC, how is that even handled? Like, I think they released that on a seperate game cart if I recall correctly? I was always confused by that. Closest example to it I can think of, with how I think it works, is New Super Luigi U, which was sold seperately on Wii U but also available as DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U. But I don't know if it's actually like that.
@Yosher I have the DLC digitally, and it shows up at the bottom of the title screen in Xenoblade 2.
@Yosher Oh wow, that is a big difference in terms of progress! Can't wait to hear your thoughts as you continue!
The XC2 DLC is a pretty interesting case. You essentially have 3 different ways to get it...
@Vortexeo @TommyTendo Ah, so it IS pretty much like the Luigi U situation then, except one less option (the third option mentioned by Vortexeo). Thanks very much for clearing that up! Hope I can still find it for a reasonably cheap price physically, otherwise I'll probably just buy it digitally.
Also just got done in that fortress and saw the scenes after. Right in the feels man. Right in the feels. Really happy I decided to finally give this game another chance.
I wish they would stop revealing so much about the game.
The weakest engage the enemy track yet but still sounds really good. And I imagine it'll sound even better with the set pieces it'll be used with. Looking forward to that. Seeing uraya like that hurts tho
@Yosher No problem! Also yeah there are some really great scenes around that part!
Im going to wait to listen to the theme song until I play the game but I would love any xenoblade soundtrack on vinyl 😍
@Mauzuri What do you mean trainwreck? XBC2 was much stronger in every way, especially the combat, story and exploration. Blades and customization alone made it 10x better than having the same 8 arts to cycle through for 50 hours
Nintendo, please port Xenoblade Chronicles X! I loved it back when it first came out but I just can't be bothered to set up my WiiU anymore. Would be amazing to have it on Switch.
@Mauzuri what did Tales of Arise do to you my man?
@TommyTendo You must not listen to much then
@Yosher I happen to think people just don't like Rex's voice because he's got a bit of a weird regional English accent, he sounds mildly Northern and I'm not sure Americans can handle it 😆
I happen to think the voice acting for the majority of the main characters is pretty good, some of the blades' voices really tank the quality though and there's a couple of side quest cut scenes where the VA clearly couldn't do the accent they were asked to do but it was kept in regardless... now those were cringeworthy!
@Otoemetry Yeah I heard some of that in Rex's voice in Smash, I think it's fine!
And I guess the side quests just got a bit lower on the priority list. I'll have to listen for that myself when I get around to playing that game!
@Yosher I mean it's worth doing just because of how laughably bad it is, keep your ears open for a blade who talks (or at least attempts to talk) with a deep Southern American accent. That blade is particularly infamous anyway so if you've come across any discourse about the blades you're probably already aware of that particular character...
How much do you know about the blade system in XC2?
@Otoemetry Not much, I just know that Rex is one who can control the blades or something and that Pyra and Mythra are blades and actually the same entity. All because of Smash. That's it, really. So no I wouldn't know this South American accented blade you're taking about.
@Yosher don't worry none of that is huge spoiler territory, and it's not quite the whole story anyway. But I'll let you find that out yourself.
Just a word of warning about how you acquire blades, it's worth doing a bit of spoiler free research once you've played the first couple of hours of the story because it'll save headaches later in the game. It's a very complicated system and some folks get very aggravated by it, but my personal experience was great and I put that down to the strategies I found online and put to good use.
@Otoemetry I know someone in person who played through the game so I can always ask him when I need to know something, that'll help I staying spoiler free since I probably wouldn't want to look it up online! But if nothing else it's good to know there's blade guides out there if I really do want to look it up. Thank you!!
