A Nintendo fan on the Famicom Boards has discovered the Switch OLED reveal trailers for North America and Japan were recently set to private on the company's official YouTube channels.
It's seemingly been enough to fuel a new round of "Switch Pro" rumours - with some anticipating...or at least hoping for a big reveal. Former Nintendo of America employee Kit Ellis has now chimed in via social media, stating how it probably means "nothing" and is likely tied to licensing - with this week marking one year of the OLED model:
Kit Ellis - "These major videos typically have music or actors which are licensed for use for a year, then need to be renewed or taken down. Switch OLED was announced a year ago tomorrow. This is most likely nothing."
It's also been noted how the same Switch launch trailers can still be viewed in the UK and other countries like Australia.
Prior to Kit's comment, GameXplain speculated a private video could be an attempt to clear up the "YouTube algorithm" in order to focus on something else tied to the Switch branding. It was also mentioned how Apple had done something similar in recent times - pulling older iPhone videos ahead of the latest reveal.
One other thing worth noting is Nintendo's current supply chain issues in Japan. In a new report from Nikkei earlier today, it was revealed how there had been a 33% drop in system sales due to these ongoing struggles. A Nintendo spokesperson also mentioned how the company was having difficulties procuring the necessary parts to manufacture new systems:
If we hear any updates, we'll let you know. What do you think Nintendo might be up to with these trailers? Tell us below.

I believe Ellis is correct, that Beyoncé video of her playing the Nintendo DS is also gone years after it got uploaded on their channel too. Now only the archive of that video is still on YouTube.
I would also guess it's probably nothing. Even if new hardware is imminent there's no reason for them to private a video for an already released product.
Kit says this but the switch lite video was up for 2 years before it was privated shortly before the oled trailer.
Also why hasn't the original switch announcement video been taken down when it's been 5 years.
Why would they take down a trailer for a product that only came out 10 months ago?
@zen1990 Different people and contents on them video had different licensing agreement, some had longer agreement than others. I think maybe the Switch Lite just had longer use of the materials in its video.
@zen1990 I would assume it would depend on the terms of the deal with the license holder(s). I would also attribute that to simple timing and coincidence. Was there an actual reason for them to private the video just to announce the OLED?
GX has to make a video about any dumb thing to not pay their employees again.
Ain't it the same guy who said no direct at all last month? I still agree with him though
@zen1990 To clarify, it's Switch OLED trailers that have recently been taken down in certain regions (not Lite). The Switch OLED trailer has been up for roughly a year, so Kit's thoughts about it possibly being linked to licensing make sense.
@Serpenterror Geez. Copyright/licensing rights really is a joke.
Amazing that the Switch + Breath of the Wild 2017 Superbowl trailer, which features Imagine Dragons music, is still not privated.
@Rika_Yoshitake I agree. GameXplain needs to do better with their videos, they really do make videos on anything just to have something uploaded for the day. Andre definitely ain't paying his employees but yet want them to upload pointless videos.
Half-Life 3 confirmed.
@Entrr_username My guess is that Nintendo took them down cause they don't want to waste money keeping those up. Why continue to keep them up when the message has already been sent? Besides there's hundreds of archive videos of those already on YouTube anyways. Either way people already got the message of those products.
Low supply issues means private ownership.
Only the people who own switches can watch trailers for potential purchases.
Ok, why would those two things have anything to do with each other? Nintendo takes music videos down, and it means nothing, why would this be any different?
Even if this does mean new hardware, I think a Switch Lite OLED would be much more likely. Crazy to me that people are still on the "Pro" train.
Gotta love gamexplain. A mountain out of a molehill YT channel.
Holdup imma let y'all finish... but Beyoncé is the greatest DS player of all time!
sWiitchU confirmed
Someone let me know when something gets announced. I don't have the head space for this nonsense.
This proves the GoW Ragnarok announcement date was delayed because of Half Life Alyx on Labo VR Pro!

Switch Pro has been deconfirmed 5 times, This has got to be a new record!
Ahh the weekly pro model (which isn't going to happen) rumor news. Can't wait for next week's random Twitter post that'll incite it.
I'm sick of any tiny thing being a switch pro "rumor". The oled is not even a year old, the world's supply chain is busted, and none of these things are even remotely close to being evidence of a pro announcement.
@KryptoniteKrunch Yes, Switch Lite OLED is my expectation for the holidays. It makes too much sense for them not to do it.
I'm reasonably confident the MK8D Booster Courses have provided us all with a timeline for any Switch Pro/ new hardware. Potentially announced in 2023, likely arriving in 2024.
@zen1990 maybe different buy outs? 😉
Whilst I cannot discount fully the possibility of a Switch Lite OLED, I do wonder if they will go for this. The lite is the entry level model and I am sure they will want to keep the cost down.
I could see them eventually drop the original Switch model (the one that actually switches) in favour of the OLED as the new norm.
Switch Pro? Nintendo got a little burned on the short lived 3DS pro so I'm not 100% convinced that it is on their radar.
All speculation and as always expect nothing until Nintendo speaks.
Golden eye remaster, wind waker for switch, pikmin 4, Mario odyssey 2. All things that are said to be happening, yet they never do. Kinda like this fabled switch pro.
@NintendoByNature absolutely agree there! They should probably change a bit, but I doubt they will.
I agree with Kit Ellis. I literally got an OLED Switch yesterday! Woah, the timing! Good thing I watched the trailer in time, but seeing as I am in the UK, and the UK trailer is still available, that likely wouldn’t have mattered too much.
@MidnightDragonDX I'm definitely not saying it's happening, but it's not like this is complete nonsense. The same thing happened before the OLED was announced; the Lite video was made private.
Switch Pro..... the rumor that will never ever die, and is the constant gift, that just keeps on giving.
FINALLY! Quality of Life, HERE WE COME!!!
I really don’t see the advantage of a PRO model now. 1 or 2 years ago? Maybe. But now. Just so you can AI Upscale your video to 4K? (One of the rumored features of the PRO model.)
Many People wish for a PRO model because they want more graphically beautiful games. But the PRO model would never deliver on that because all developers still have to develop for the original model. They would just give you a slightly higher resolution and more stable frame rate. The PRO model won’t make the trees in Arceus less ugly or give you Ray-Tracing all of a sudden.
I think the next switch we see that has faster internals will be a Switch 2. Only with a new generation will we see a true jump in graphical quality.
If the trailers come back up with no fanfare, then we can be sure nothing gets announced at this time. 😛
Wow, I didn't realise sales were being affected by shortages so badly. No wonder Nintendo have been spending a lot of money stockpiling raw materials.
If there's one reason Nintendo will be sticking to the current Switch models for a long time, it'll be because this supply shortage. It has been two years and people are still finding it difficult to purchase a PS5 and XSX. It is unrealistic for a new model to come out unless it was very budget.
Makes sense, but the Switch Pro is coming sooner or later anyways.
Kit and his partner did say there wasn’t going to be any Directs during the summer too. They are completely out of the loop. While I don’t think they’re going to announce any new hardware this year, but Kit hasn’t been right since he left Nintendo at all. The company has changed while and since his departure, especially with the labor complaint and I wouldn’t be surprised if Kyoto is watching NOA more than before.
I still think it’ll be 2023 before the next Switch SKU is released, but there’s plenty of room for error due to the component shortages. A new Switch model could still be coming for all I know. We’ll have to wait and see. I believe the Pro isn’t dead, it’s just a TV-only model and an updated hybrid and Lite are in the pipeline.
are we gonna ignore the evidences Nintendo spent 74milions dolars in raw materials?more they have spent in 2019
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/06/nintendo-appears-to-be-stockpiling-raw-materials-doubles-its-2019-spending-on-supplies
I don't know if this means anything, but why are people so against believing a pro/new hardware of some sort, will happen? This is Nintendo we're talking about. Has everyone forgotten the endless versions of the 3ds/2ds already?
I know the supply shortage is a thing, but it didn't stop them from making the (nice, but) rather pointless OLED.
If anyone has figured out Nintendo's Switch generation pattern, it's hardware every 2 years.
2017 Switch
2019 Lite
2021 Oled
2023 ?
@ModdedInkling
PS5 yes but the Series X is widely available and has been for months in the UK at least.
Anyway looks like this whole thing was about the Splatoon 3 OLED model.
@westman98 probably because the licence didn't have an expiration date.
@nocdaes ... At the earliest
@Giancarlothomaz yeah... That happened... So what? Think nintendo has had time to build a fiundery and mass produce new chipsets in a couple weeks?
Switch Hyper with 12K HDR12++ can't wait.
