@Doggedfrog @Monado_III The problem is, it is impossible to find the GC game for any decent price, even used. The Wii game is less expensive but is pushing it for a 2007 game. These games, they are all right but not the best, so not essential Fire Emblem, or at least they're not essential if the prices are utterly extortionate. They are less expensive in the USA, but in the UK- £120 on eBay for the GC game, but people won't, or should not pay eBay prices. So, I think people should play FE Awakening or the GBA games on the Wii U (or actual cartridges). They are best for beginners, they help ease people into the strategy, although I would say the GBA ones are better. Or, you could wait for Fire Emblem 'If'.
@crimsontadpoles
They don't need to wait until their next console (if there even is one). They can update their handhelds and consoles right now, if they wanted to. Which they obviously do not intend to do. Region-locking is a self-inflicted problem.
I usually love the Humble Bundle. However, I have two of the games already and have no desire to play the other games. So I'll pass. Thanks, HB, but no thanks.
@JaxonH Yes, it does, but some of them are impossible to obtain without cheating somehow, owing to the obscurity of some of the e-reader cards (which were not ever released in Europe) and the fact that some cards were never released for the games which actually exist in the game files. If they did release the game on the Virtual Console, you would not be able to get many, if any, of them. Still, if you have the original GameCube game, and a cheat device or an e-reader for the Game Boy Advance, see what happens!
@Grumblevolcano This talk about Smash Bros. and how it justifies remaking or translating the games... I think they should just do it so people who cannot read Japanese can play the original games. Release the lot in one go. I don't think Smash Bros. justifies it really, or at least not alone. Instead, the new-found popularity of FE does.
I don't like great games, I like games that I like. Fire Emblem Awakening is both! It's so playable on the go! Although I perhaps like classic FE a little bit better (4-8 and New Mystery of the Emblem are brilliant 2D Strategy), only a little bit! I always come back to this game... Yes, it does have flaws, in that strategy is not always, ahem, needed. But it's simply fun! I know they are going to iron out at least some of the less polished aspects of Awakening in FE 'If', so here's to a bright future for Fire Emblem! Although the one thing that they have not fixed which I am not happy about is the fact there are 2D sprites on 3D environments! I would really like to see high quality 3D representations of the characters! They could be opulent and lavish so we can identify who they are meant to be! Anyway...
I really enjoyed the first Tappingo game. I will probably be getting this as it is still really good value! Can anyone tell me if there is a level editor, or if there are plans for one? That would really improve the game.
Perhaps opening up development would be good. Not in a silly, 'open the floodgates', Steam Greenlight opening, but a way to develop games on any given system. However, they would need to sandbox the programs.
@DarthNocturnal I think wasabi would be more suitable for a burning sensation. Cinnamon is not very spicy, from my experience with it in American food.
Looks brilliant! I am always looking for more Pullblox levels. More of the same works as long as the levels have variety and challenge. I will probably skip the really easy levels.
@Grumblevolcano
DSi-enhanced games are region locked if played on a DSi, so no online features (which are useless now): the console has a tantrum when you try to play it. However, you can play the game on any original DS/DS lite with no problems. Which is probably what you want to do.
Edit: I should also point out that anything region-locked newer than the DSi will also reject the game.
@thedevilsjester Most thing in museums have educational value and historical significance. Perhaps the SNES development systems have historical significance in the video game world. However, this has a sticker saying 'Microprose', which really does not add to said value. So for me it is overpriced and of less importance than is claimed.
"The catch – aside from the massive price tag – is that the unit powers on but does nothing else; the software isn't included." It's a useless plastic block, then. That is just cheap of them!
@UboaNoticedYou I agree with all of that! However, we are implying that they have a new game in development, but unfortunately I think they have all but abandoned Metroid.
@UboaNoticedYou I like Zero Mission as much as Fusion (and in some respects a bit more), but it was just so short! Fusion was an original game rather than a remake, which is probably why it is my favourite of the two.
I think their best bet for rebooting Metroid is another 2D entry, something entirely fresh though. I hope it will continue the good work of Metroid Fusion, a game which is the most playable of the 2D games in my opinion.
I want to play DS games on the go, digital. Can I? No, not unless I live in Japan, and want to play just a single game, Advance Wars. So... Why not release the entire library? Are there technical limitations? No, they are ROMS which can be booted like DS cartridges! So... Nintendo are clearly just a bit stubborn, or at least that is how I see it.
@AlbionHero Radiant Dawn was certainly not the most 'mature' (whatever that might mean) game in the series, but FE Awakening was certainly more light hearted. In terms of the rest of the series, the Super Famicom games were the most 'mature', that is true. To be honest, the age ratings are sometimes meaningless when it comes to story for example, and it is looking like FE 'If' will be better than FE Awakening in that respect.
@Grumblevolcano I think they are just being mean about prices, to be honest. There are plenty of great first party games that go on sale on other platforms far more regularly.
@joey302 Well, it is difficult to find a number of games for reasonable prices and it would be an opportunity to release games that never had English translations. It's also a matter of convenience, I prefer not to carry around a number of games as it is easy to lose a loose game cartridge.
@Grumblevolcano I don't particularly care about Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon being re-released because it was a pretty mediocre game, but Heroes of Light and Shadow ought to have a localisation.
April 20th is the 25th anniversary of Fire Emblem so I am hoping for news of the new game and hopefully some sort of English release of the Japan-only games.
I would love to have a Fire Emblem anthology, with all of the games up to Fire Emblem 10 (as well as Heroes of Light and Shadow), or at least individual releases of the non-English titles. Perhaps when the timer counts down to the 13th of March, there could be some sort of surprise?
@vyseofhr
Four Swords Adventures was a GameCube game entirely different to the GBA game. It had a full multiplayer story called Hylian Adventure and a multiplayer battle mode called Shadow Battle. Both involved connecting GBAs with friends. It's much better than the DSi remake of the GBA game, which was included with A Link to the Past remake. At any rate the Four Swords Anniversary Edition is not available on the eshop either, it being limited time.
Why on earth do videogame artists always feel the need to as revealing of the female body as possible? It's not needed, and it's rather sexist. Why can't they just be portrayed in outfits that aren't nearly so revealing, in armour that makes sense?
You're just paying for a Raspberry Pi in a nice case. It's not particularly impressive. Why can't it play from the original cartridges? If I can make my own Pi read Game Boy cartridges, there's no reason they can't.
@mainstream05 I would argue that it is not derivative as people clearly know a video of a game is not a game. It is (usually) free advertising as it lets people see the game: It is showing the content, it spreads awareness of the game, and reviews can be good publicity for the game.
@Quorthon That is copyright. It does not state anywhere that I cannot make video of the game. Copyright merely prevents copying of the work; making a video of the game is not the same thing as a derivative work of the game, if anything it is a celebration, free advertising.
@FullbringIchigo Nintendo games don't come with EULAs (at least not too my knowledge). And the EU has dismissed them as actually having no legal ground. So I would say you own the software, and should be allowed to make youtube videos.
@rjejr The comparison with Apple is not uncanny; like Apple fans, Nintendo 'sheeple' are willing to pay large sums of money for Nintendo-branded goods. I'm sure Nintendo are really trying to get the 40% profit margins too: that's desirable for any corporation.
Does this program not just discourage the free advertising they had already? If these youtube people have bought the game is it not their own right to do what they want with it? Why should they have to register with a corporation? It's just draconian.
