It's the start of another week, and as always we have the European Nintendo Download Update to warm us up to the goodies on the way. This time around we have a popular Smash Bros. fighter available to buy, a free app of amiibo-powered retro demos, along with an excellent new Wii download and loads of other options across both eShop stores. Let's get to the details.
Wii U eShop
Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies (Nintendo, €14.99 / £13.49 until 7th May, then €19.99 / £17.99) - This long-awaited sequel from Treasure on the Wii has excellent Wii U pointer controls, and has the expected blend of fast-paced shooting, crazy enemy designs and an utterly bizarre storyline. Always a challenge and loved by a number of action shooter fans, we gave this a glowing recommendation in our Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies review.
amiibo Touch & Play: Nintendo Classic Highlights (Nintendo, free) - The latest use for those amiibo toys you've probably been collecting, this app contains segments of 30 Virtual Console games, and you can simply scan an amiibo on the GamePad to access a particular demo. You 'assign' an amiibo to a specific game and take on up to 10 three minute 'scenes' from that title; we'll bring you our impressions soon.
Wii U eShop DLC
Star Wars Pinball (Zen Studios) - The following tables are available as DLC:
Heroes Within (€9.99 / £7.99) - Includes four tables: Han Solo, Star Wars Pinball: Droids, Star Wars Pinball: Episode IV A New Hope, and a table dedicated to the Masters of the Force.
Star Wars Rebels (€2.99 / £2.39) - Contains a single table.
Wii U and 3DS Super Smash Bros. DLC
As with the initial paid DLC, if you buy both the Wii U and 3DS versions you receive a code to redeem on the second system.
Mewtwo [Fighter] (Nintendo, €3.99 / £3.59 single platform or €4.99 / £4.49 for both)
Bundle Collection (Nintendo, €10.31 / £9.11 single platform or €14.51 / £13.12 for both) - This bundle includes the following:
- Fighter (Mewtwo)

- Majora's Mask
- Dunban Wig
- Proto Man's Helmet
- Mega Man X's Helmet

Excave II: Wizard of the Underworld (Bergsala Lightweight, €10.00 / £8.99) - It didn't take long for this sequel to make its way to the West, bringing more dungeon-crawling hacking and slashing to the 3DS. Though it's had a price hike since the original, we still gave this a solid recommendation in our Excave II: Wizard of the Underworld review.

lol so much work trying to get a copy of Sin & Punishment all for nothing.
haha j/k I might even buy a digital copy cause I'm a lazy F.
edit: WHAT? Rebels is 2.99? oh wait thats an ok price for one table (and its Rebels <3)
Cheap Kirby for me. I thought Paper Mario 64 was this week?
So many to download this week. Sin&Punishment for sure. Anyway, Kirby's Adventure NES or Nightmare in Dreamland GBA? Or both for the heck of it? Getting Kirby Superstar also and I'll pass on Kirby Mirror.
I guess I'll get the free amiibo app because it's free.
@Ichiban No, Paper Mario 64 and Yoshi's Island DS are coming at an unknown date in May.
@Grumblevolcano Ah ok, thanks for that!
Wait we actually ARE getting the Star Wars tables? I never doubted them for a second! Wonderful!
As I already downloaded Mewtwo earlier, I'll get the amiibo tap channel.
I have 24 amiibo, I think I'll get a lot of mileage out of the Amiibo tap channel.
48 DAYS BABY!!!!!!
@AyeHaley You had a hard time finding a copy? Where are you living at? It never crossed my mind this game could be even remotely rare anywhere.
I'll be getting Dedede's Drum Dash. I thought the Triple Deluxe minigame was pretty fun.
Do you save any money by getting the Smash bundle instead of getting them separately?
Anyway I'm getting the free Amiibo thing and maybe a Kirby game.
I would be getting Sin & Punishment... if I didn't already have it. Also, I prefer the first one for its cooler style, but that's just me.
Suppose I'll get that Tap thing and use it a couple of times before I lose interest.
Everything else I either already have or don't care about :/
The starwars tables and the free amiibo download for me this week
amiibo Touch & Play:
"The games assigned are US versions."
So they'll give us free samples at the correct speed, but if we pay them money we have to make do with 50Hz*? Thanks Nintendo!
*for some games
Never played a Kirby game. Q: Are any of these unmissable Kirbys?
Isa Jo from Sin and Punishment Successor of the skies for smash.
I really wish activision did better eShop discounts seeing as their games arent THAT great on 3DS
Is there a difference between the original kirby's adventure and the 3D classic version of the game?
@Mario_Fart Personally i think kirby's dream course is an amazing game that you need to have played at least once.
@ShanaUnite: In addition to the 3D effect, I heard they made Boss Rush a bit easier by healing you after 5th boss. You had to beat every boss without any way to get health back in the original game. That's all I know but there might be some other things too.
Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe is definitely gonna tempt me at that price.
I hope the states eventually gets sin & punishment 2 ... Love that game!!
What a Dededelightful price for Drum Dash. That and Pinball Land are my picks. Amiibo Tap will be a download too, but that was a given.
Aw yeah! I had all the Kirby games already from last week's deals but this week I'll be getting Super Star, Dream Course and Amazing Mirror.
In the Smash bundle, I spy new trophies and a new icon? Do these already come with Mewtwo, or we gonna have to fork out a lot extra to get them?
Sin and Punishment I'll have as well as the amiibo Tap game. I never did finish the former - something about having them as downloads makes a lot of these old Wii games more appealing. I do hope we'll end up with the full first-party catalogue in the end.
@Mario_Fart Super Star and 3D classics Adventure (stay away from NES VC version poor technical performance and 50Hz) are great 2d Kirby games. All the spin-off games are solid too so it depends on what you are after. Golf - Dream Course. Match puzzle game - star Stacker. Breakout - Blok Ball. Pinball - Pinball land.
@ShanaUnite The 3D classic version is not crippled by constant slowdown.
I don't own a Wii U but I do own a wii with Sin and punishment 2 and the game rocks!.
If you like rail shooters and anime style presentation it's a must play.
Definitely the Mewtwo DLC
@ShanaUnite 3D Classics Kirby has loads of bugs fixed and the slowdown removed. It is definitely worth it.
The Wii U Kirby's Adventure is particularly broken. It is a 50hz game with the speed of Kirby increased but the rest of the game still runs at the original speed.
Damm have been waiting well over a year for Nano Assault Neo to be on a proper sale they never discount this game properly.
Do you have to buy the bundle to get the trophies?
@TriforceShoe Fairly sure it's just the two trophies you get for beating the game's two main modes (as Mewtwo).
So many discounts I want! First Sin & Punishment 2 of course, then something Kirby, something indie... Way too many discounts to choose from! That Amiibo tap thing seems a little pointless for me, I probably own most of the VC games included already. But it's free so of course I'm going to buy it. I really wish Nintendo would give in and make a Skylanders-esque game for Amiibo... Amiibo are begging for a full open-world game of their own...
@Starwolf_UK @ShanaUnite - Cheers for that!
Another "fantastic" week for 3DS owners. Recently it looks more like they want to turn garbage into gold. Is it seriously too hard to offer any decent games? What kind of joke is that "discount" for the retail stuff? I can find that cheaper literally ANYWHERE in the city and theres a reason for it...not even worth half the price. Problem with Nintendo is, that 90% of all times something is "cheap", its also exactly what u pay for. Poor games/quality. How about you release some real games with discount? How about you actually release some NINTENDO games with discount? "Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (Activision, €19.99 / £14.99 until 13th May, normally €39.99 / £29.99)" - uhhh until 13th of may only... and then what? will be given out for free on the streets? I think not even in North Korea on the blackmarket someone would be pay 39.99 for it and yea, lets wait another month and you can get it for 9.95 anywhere but the 3DS discount shop.
I am surprised there is not one mention of there being no VC for Europe in the comment section...
I'll be getting Mewtwo and the Amiibo touch and play.
I thought we where getting space marines. This week!
@ikki5
That's what Sin and Punishment is for. It's a bit weird that NL classes it with all the other indie games.
@unrandomsam Thanx. You made the decision really easy.
For anyone in America, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sin-and-punishment-star-successor-nintendo-wii/9903846.p?id=1218192429767&skuId=9903846 is half the price of the download right now
Ooooo Sin & punishment! 😱
But am saving up for special edition splatoon waaaa!😭
I'll Defo gonna get King DEDEDE drum dash though!
I've been waiting for sale on that game for ever! 😊
@russellohh America's not getting the digital version for a very long time if at all. They don't even have DKC Returns!
I used to look at the EU list to get an idea of NA list, but it has been so different and often disappointing that I think it's just curiosity now.
shrugs Amiibo Touch thingy is free and I have Amiibo. It's really a no-brainer.
Will be there a Kirby Week event in the US by any chance? I want the 3D Classics one but the full price is a bit high for such a short game.
@Ichiban This article is for Europe, the direct announcing release dates for N64 and DS games was for NA. So yes Paper Mario is coming April 30th, but for Europe probably May.
Only 12% of people voted Sin and Punishment? Disgusting.
Mewtwo will be mine in Smash Bros.
Here is a question for Nintendo (and their army of marketing people):
So, after seeing yet another wonderful week of nothing for the 3DS (btw. releasing a new 3DS with zero support software/games-wise apart from Xenoblades, big clap on the shoulder, guys!), I went to check around where else I can buy stuff from/for the EShop (download codes).
So, how is it possible that Mario Kart 7 is currently "FOR SALE" nearly everywhere you can buy download codes (mmoga, online-gold, gamesrocket etc.) for 23.99 but in your amazing OWN shop I have to pay full price and instead you offer a trilogy of crap that you will find in the bargain bin (Transformers, Turtles, Spiderman 2 and ANGRY freaking BIRDS). What is this and why? If that 3DS browser would be useful, the real 3DS Shops with real weekly discounts are to be found on the web but NOT in that EShop. How about for next week you also release an uninstall-option for it?
Yes, im not happy, cause for 3DS owners the shop is like a comedy and just because I have some balance on it, doesnt mean I want to spend it on crap. Is it too hard to offer something like Dream Team Bros for 50% off once (50% off YOUR retail price that hardly anyone on this planet is paying anyway)? Too hard to make the same offer on Mario Kart that is on right now? Too hard to offer ANY Nintendo quality game with a discount?
Is this Eshop actually run by Nintendo or outsourced to some dodgy company thats paying Nintendo some license fees? Else i really really dont get it... and yea, I have been (and still am) a Nintendo Fan since NES times...but Nintendo is collecting new all-time lows like Mario his coins.
I have that game. I didn't know anyone else that liked it. @XyVoX
Star Wars pinball I think for me.
@AlexMurphy The answer to your main question is because of European Law. Price fixing by game/console creators to retailers/online shops not owned by them is illegal. Because of this the prices are maximum in the eshop and Nintendo's online stores as Nintendo can whereas in physical/online shops the decision is solely in the hands of the shop.
@Grumblevolcano But if its true and I dont doubt that European law is certainly responsible for alot of short-comings in terms of services (e.g. due to data protection), then who decided to reduce this weeks retail titles like transformers, turtles etc.? I mean, others are telling the Nintendo Shop how much to charge for it? Why is it possible to reduce Transformers and not Mario Kart? Following the logic, it would mean european Law and retailers are forcing Nintendo to reduce prices for the stuff that nobody would pay fullprice anyway? Angry Birds is a prime example (39.95 .. that game has been for 5 euro in Toys R Us way before EShop decided this week to reduce to 9,95). Anyway, thanks for the answer.. its just frustrating to check the weekly 3DS shop lately.
@Grumblevolcano
I think they are just being mean about prices, to be honest. There are plenty of great first party games that go on sale on other platforms far more regularly.
amiibo Touch & Play: For me!
