Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy, Again

ZenTurtle

Don't have Facebook (not F'd), Twitter or G+. They are a stupid waste of time, so I'm missing out on a sweet 30 points :-/...
I got around 200 points. Seems a bit mean that you need 1000 to spend it on a single small game. I spent so many points on their overpriced Club Nintendo rewards, shouldn't I get something for that? At least I got Flipnotes. That is reasonably fun at least.

Re: Guide: Which Nintendo 3DS or 2DS System Should I Buy?

ZenTurtle

I have the golden 3DS that they released with Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. It is the perfect size for handheld games and has a reasonable battery life (although I carry a Game Boy Advance on long trips). I love to play Professor Layton on it is the perfect size for puzzles.

Re: Feature: Ten Game Boy Advance Games You Should Play

@Marce2240
Mother 3? Most people don't speak Japanese. This website claims it does not promote 'piracy' (although I would argue that term is corporate propaganda designed to prevent sharing of media), but we all know that we can just patch the copy we were 'given' for emulation.

Re: Feature: Ten Game Boy Advance Games You Should Play

ZenTurtle

I love Zelda, but my favourite is Mario+Luigi. I have had lots of fun from that game. I also wasted 150 hours on Pokemon Emerald, but it is too locked down so impossible to 'catch them all' so to speak and I don't know another living soul with the game. Fire Emblem is almost impossible to get hold of for some sane price. Advance Wars though... I have played the ones on the DS, so might give it a try sometime.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Virtual Console Revolution Must Wait as We Pay Once More for SNES Games

ZenTurtle

@tjhiphop
It's not cross-buy though. It was a one off.
Don't feel too bad. They are inept and at the very minimum should look to other consoles on how it is done, but ideally they should look to GOG.com at how it should be done. They should just release them restrictions-free as a file we can load on our consoles/computers. People who would usually pay will continue to, as they would not want to go to dubious websites and want to support further development. The people who won't pay for whatever reason will always find ways around price.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Z Creator Launches New Patreon Page After Nintendo Takedown

ZenTurtle

I haven't much sympathy for them. They should have known this would happen, because it violates copyright, and they have been given real money for it, so are profiting from other people's work (according to the copyright law). They should have put their resources into something original, rather than trying to get recognition because they used Nintendo characters (a bit harsh).

Re: Wii U Emulator, Cemu, Runs Games Like Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart 8 in Version 1.3.0

ZenTurtle

I think the problem with Nintendo is that they make it incredibly difficult for people to develop their own games and programs for their own consoles, and when people want to use the media they have legally purchased on other computers or on different consoles, they can't. Nintendo should make it possible and simple for people to make their own games and programs. People will always 'pirate' games (a term itself promoted by the 'intellectual property' racket), so why do they have to make legitimate customers' lives difficult?

Re: Weirdness: Homebrew Enthusiast Gets Windows 95 Working on the New Nintendo 3DS

ZenTurtle

@PlywoodStick
There will be no video acceleration though, to the detriment of most modern video games. This is because the 3DS is proprietary hardware, such is the agressive nature of Nintendo's guarding of its secrets. It is a pity because the 3DS would be interesting to run various libre video games, and would benefit from a proper music player in VLC. It would of course just be fun to see what people might do, given freedom.

Re: There'll Be More Senran Kagura Bursting Onto the Scene in 2016

ZenTurtle

@Miiamoto
I don't play Call of Duty, because it has little substance, and is just mindless shooting. I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to play any video game they please, but that we should condemn games that promote sexism (in the case of this game) and over-the-top violence, and unrealistic body types, as you say. Media has influence, despite being fictionalised, because it reflects society. If we want to make society a more equal and harmonious place, we need to object to content that promotes objectification of women.
Therefore, while games are an escape from reality, we should be careful about which reality we are escaping to. This is nothing to do with objecting to freedom of speech.

Re: There'll Be More Senran Kagura Bursting Onto the Scene in 2016

ZenTurtle

@pubjoe
Everyday sexism is not a matter of how 'openly' sexist something is, but how it makes it seem normal. The fact that the game is sold in stores means that it can be considered 'mainstream' and this, I would argue, makes the game more harmful. If people see it sold in stores (albeit mostly in Japan), they will likely just ignore it, but the fact that it is there means that there will be a tendency just to ignore it, rather than object to its content. It is sexist, and it reinforces discrimination by objectifying women.

Re: Feature: Why We're Still Playing... Metroid Fusion

ZenTurtle

I like Metroid Zero Mission too. It is short, yet sweet, although Fusion is superior in the respect that it had more content. However, I think that there were one or two interesting mechanics in Zero Mission that should be repeated. In another 2D Metroid game.

Re: Feature: The Twilight Princess HD Fan Project That's Taking On Nintendo At Its Own Game

ZenTurtle

@CHET_SWINGLINE
What I'm saying isn't that people shouldn't be able to sell games. It's just that patents (inventions that are useful), trademarks (designed to show that a work is made by a person/organisation) and copyright (designed to prevent unfair copying) are different, and apply to different things. I did not mean to come accross as accusing, it's just that we should not confuse the three, under the vague term 'intellectual property'. It is essentially corporate propaganda because it is used as a catch-all term by big business to justify the various draconian laws around copying and modifying work.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Originally Didn't Have a Single Player Mode

ZenTurtle

My qualm with the game is that you can only play with 1 or 3 players. Or at least that's what I read about on the Ars Technica review. The lack of purple link is also glaring. It's not like 4 player hasn't been done before? In fact, if more time had been spent on the game, I suspect there could even have been up do 8 players, working in teams of their choosing. Also, bring back Shadow Battle from Four Swords Adventures!!!

Re: Video Game Industry in Scotland 'Could Eclipse Oil Boom'

ZenTurtle

@Souldin
Rockstar were based in Scotland... a while ago. They have a large studio in Edinburgh city centre called 'Rockstar North'. Now they are multinational they are not based there any more, but a considerable amount of development has been carried out in bonnie Scotland.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo and DeNA Will Be Revealing the First Smart Device Software Soon

ZenTurtle

There's that phrase again: 'IP'. What does 'intellectual property' actaully mean? It is just some meaningless soundbite used to link copyright, trademark and patents together, as if they are some tangible physical object. All governed by the sinister 'World Intellectual Property Organisation'. Seems like these corporations just want to supress creativity. Stop using this meaningless phrase! Instead of saying "bringing IP to mobile devices", say they are "bringing Nintendo games to mobile devices".

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages

ZenTurtle

'Intellectual property': what does it actually mean? There's copyright of works, but the term 'IP' is so vague that it is only loosely related. It suggests a relationship between patents, copyright and trademarks as something comparable to a physical object. Patents, copyright and trademarks are all designed for different things. At the end of the day, 'IP' is just a term used by big corporations to suppress creativity, all governed by the sinister and dubious 'World Intellectual Property Organisation'.

Re: Feature: The Wild And Wacky World Of WarioWare

ZenTurtle

I love Warioware! The micro-games are pretty fun. However, my favourite game is Warioware DIY for sure! I spent hours churning out wacky, wonderful games, usually involving some sort of silly premise. I also loved making the odd homage to various arcade games (none of which I ever managed to play in actual arcades, though)! Then, I discovered the online competition that was held monthly. I was selected about 5 times. which made me quite impressed with my game-making skills. It's part of what got me interested in programming more advanced programs on my computer. It's simply satisfying to make a program (here, a game), and have it work how one designed it. That's the simple joy of games like this!
It's just a pity the competitions are no more after the servers were abandoned. I live in hope for a new Warioware DIY!
