@NotoriousWhiz That was a pretty decent attempt at being clever. Let your brain mature for a few more years and maybe next time you'll actually succeed.
Are the original developers of the game going to see a dime from this? No? Okay then.
I will forever be disgusted by how game companies have no interest in archiving video game history unless they can make a buck off of it. This goes for other industries as well.
Overpriced tripe that banks on nostalgia to sell, and it will because fans are stupid enough to be strung along by any hint of getting more of their beloved franchise. This is cynical marketing at it's finest. Scalpers are gonna have a field day with this merch thanks to Mother fans being absurdly devoted.
It's the same reason people complained about the Game Genie back in the 90s (hi I'm old), and the same reason people lose their minds if Dark Souls or Undertale isn't played a certain way. Namely, people get it in their heads that something needs to be experienced in a very specific way, usually the same way that person experiences it, and they freak out if someone DARES to enjoy the same product they do in a different manner.
Difficulty settings are inclusive which lead to more sales which lead to more games, but many gamers are inherently exclusive in their thinking. "You're not having fun in the same style that I am, so stop having fun." That's it. That's the whole reason behind it. Any other factors or logic are just window dressing over this core issue.
I haven't touched the game in a month. It is indeed incomplete and lacking features that New Leaf had on day one. Adding said features back later on and treating them like they're new (Leif and diving, ugh) is just insulting.
Not to mention the needlessly long events. Animal Crossing events traditionally do not have a lot of content, and that was fine when it was one specific day, but if they're going to have all events be sprawling weeks-long affairs despite being bare bones, I'm gonna stay away. If I want MMO-style grinding, there's plenty of other sources of that particular flavor of tedium. Bunny Day frustrated a lot of people and rightfully so.
Add in other factors like durability (a worthless game design choice in ANY game) and this game just did not grip me the way New Leaf did. They're gonna have to do something amazing to get me returning to my island now.
Any game that has microtransactions or loot boxes gets ignored by me, full stop. Does this cause me to miss out on some fun times? Yes indeed, but there's SO many games out these days that cater to so many interests that I've had plenty of other games to play that don't make demands of my wallet past the initial purchase.
Consider playing games that respect your time and your money. Games with any sort of additional purchase are designed to do neither.
What a joke. Why spend over a hundred dollars on this when NFC tags are a few dollars and achieve the same thing? I'd use one if the price tag wasn't absurd, but because it is, nah.
Another factor to consider, folks - we are not Japan. Nintendo's always going to put Japan first due to that audience being local. Example: The metric tons of Splatoon merchandise in Japan that hasn't appeared elsewhere, or has trickled out. If Nintendo has their characters go beyond video games, it'll be in Japan first and everywhere else MAYBE later.
@ukaskew What country are you in? This was just a little surreal to read considering I live in a small American town, less than 50,000 people, and I can still find Mario toys at the GROCERY STORE, and not a big chain like Target either. I can't speak for other places but in America there seems to be a good amount of market saturation.
What, no mention of how Sasuke (short green ninja) is shoving his kunai into Yae's nose on the NA cover? I got this game when it was new and I've never been able to unsee that.
Tetris is about BLOCKS, configurations of squares, I know sneakers are required to be overdesigned but how do you take inspiration from BLOCKS and then come up with this curvy angular nonsense? There are so many ways this could have been done better, I agree with Kintypoo121.
As others have said, this is too little too late. The game came out months ago and it's still a mess on Switch. I just sold my Switch copy, perhaps I'll buy it on Steam when it inevitably goes on sale for 80% off. It's certainly not worth waiting around to see if the game MIGHT be improved.
@Franklin To use an ancient phrase, I'm sure the players you're judging are crying all the way to the bank. Any legitimate competitor with any sense isn't going to care about the "judgement" of completely random people like you or me.
The player didn't break any rules. Your feelings are irrelevant here, folks, that's the facts.
All this talk of "honor" and "cowardice" and such is ridiculous considering it's a competitive video game, and you need to be pragmatic to win in any game - this isn't real sports with their mountains of overhead, if you don't do absolutely everything you can within the rules to win then your opponent will.
If there's a genuine problem, the rules will change, but not liking someone's playstyle isn't a valid reason.
I play Splatoon competitively and I'm also a completionist. Yes, that means I'm functionally insane. ANYWAY! I'm not paying out the nose to have all the gear on hand, my little pile of NFC tags will do quite nicely.
They already patched the game to lower XP gains. Every time you buy into full-priced games with loot boxes and premium currencies, you are encouraging this sleazy behavior. You are part of the problem with this malignant industry.
I mean this is a 100 dollar game with a cash shop COMPLETELY identical to that of mobile free-to-play games. In what universe is that okay? Why do people blindly accept these manipulative, money-grubbing practices? Ugh...
Grim Dawn exists. It may not be on Switch, but it's made by the same people as this (down to the core of the engine being the same) and is completely superior in every way. I can't find this game worth revisiting when action RPGs have moved on. Has it really been 12 years? Sheesh...
I've played this, and the game is completely generic. Gameplay and aesthetic are identical to that of a billion flash games on Newgrounds and such. It's by no means a bad game, but there is not one original idea here. If the idea appeals to you, go for it, but don't expect anything surprising.
I own Xenoblade 2 but haven't played it yet. Frankly, I'm glad I haven't - they keep adding things to the game, I'll check it out when they're finally done tinkering with it. All these updates are neat, but it means we aren't at the "definitive" experience yet.
Well I feel vindicated. I've been concerned with the bite paid online's going to take out of the community for months now. Of course paid online alone won't be enough to kill the game, but combined with competition from Smash and Fortnite, hackers going mostly unimpeded, competitive players quitting in droves, and a metagame that's pretty stagnant? Anyone who isn't at least a little concerned is living that "this is fine" meme.
Beginning of the end, folks. Between hackers, paid online making people quit, Smash and Fortnite providing hefty competition, and players already quitting left and right, this game is going to be dead in America likely before the end of the year.
It's even labelled "video game collection", why not just wear a tag that says "MUG ME" while you're at it? In this day and age it's not worth it to carry so many tiny yet expensive goods around on your person.
Yawn. Just like every other tourney they're in, StDX will win mostly uncontested because the NA community is slowly dying and no one cares to put in the mountains of practice it'll take to challenge them.
Hi, major Splatoon fanboy with hundreds of hours here and Rank X on everything blah de blah, and there's another angle I see people haven't considered in these comments; Namely, Nintendo Switch Online has decent odds of killing Splatoon.
Splatoon 2's netcode is GARBAGE. The game has a tickrate (how often the connection refreshes between players) of 16 hz, basically per second. Overwatch is at 60, Splatoon 1's is 25, and even MINECRAFT is higher at 20. And it's peer to peer connections! In 2018! It's pretty much unacceptable for a game this fast-paced and contributes to the constant one-hit kills from any weapon and latency nonsense like chargers shooting through walls, because the shot looked good on THEIR end.
People are loathe to pay for this kind of service so the community will bleed players no matter what, but charging money for this abysmal connectivity WILL drive people off. Unless Nintendo implements dedicated servers and ups the tick rate, when it comes to Splatoon 2 paid online absolutely is a rip-off and people will vote with their wallets right out the door.
To be frank, even if they DID decide to make Sonic Adventure 3, fans have been hyping themselves up for so many years that there is absolutely NO way it would match the idealized game in people's heads. They'll get screamed at endlessly, possibly for decades if it isn't perfect. No wonder they don't want to make that game, they can't win.
"I should really stop looking at Nintendo Life's comments, they are toxic and the responses I give don't help in that regard." fast forward 2 days "You know, I'm curious, let's see what people are saying about Splatoon 2." reads "Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope"
@jimi I see you fail at reading comprehension as well. Okay, let's break it down.
"Haha, yeah that's totally great.
Do they actually stop or warn you in case less than 5 or 10 minutes are left for battery, when you try to join a match or do they ban you too in case the battery runs out? It's just 2.5 hours of battery life."
"Good luck people, that do not have a perfect internet connection and/or play on battery."
I answered your question about battery notifications, and yet all this text rants about it anyway. Did you even read MY post?
And again, Splatoon matches are short. 3 minutes in turf and as little as 30 seconds in ranked. It's a problem for every competitive game when players quit, but in Splatoon you're not out all that much time. You're not going to lose an hour of your time to one match that goes south. And this is worth all this grumbling, why?
Impressive, but fruitless. Outside of the gems everyone knows the game boy library isn't that great. You can achieve the same effect with similar bulk just by hacking your 3DS, and that can do a whole lot more than this device.
@DarkVortex They've improved the netcode. The only people I've seen in the Splatoon community (and as such would care enough to be honest and not just grumble on the internet) with connection issues have poor connections to begin with.
@jimi Yes actually, they DO warn you when your battery is low. I get that your argument is formed from anger and has no basis in reality, but maybe don't base the first three paragraphs of your rant on something you could've googled in 10 seconds. Not to mention you can just use a stand of some kind to plug in the charger.
Also, Splatoon matches are 3 minutes minimum, 5 minutes at max, with a possible few seconds of overtime. This isn't League or Overwatch with their much lengthier match times. Even factoring in a minute or so of matchmaking, if you can't devote less than 10 minutes of your time to one activity... maybe don't join a match right then and there? Your use of emergencies is a fallacy because those would cause you to fail in ANY game, possibly even ones with a pause function.
@Ralek85 God forbid you commit to a match once you've entered the lobby. I hardly see how that's a problem when you have all the time in the world to futz with settings before confirming that you want to join a match. Splatoon is a game where every second matters, there's no time for options during a match.
Also, you're comparing Zelda, a moderately-paced single-player adventure, to Splatoon, an extremely hyper competitive shooter. Of COURSE there's no "zelda-esque" motion controls because that wouldn't work in this environment for a multitude of reasons. I mean, only a handful of top players on Splatoon successfully use the sticks as is, most such players invariably get slaughtered by people using motion controls.
I am not impressed. Even less impressed considering it's early access and also "free", big ol' red flags these days. I will not be surprised if people find out they just re-used some of their Project M code.
@Zoda_Fett It's an app. What is there to get a feel for? I can see the voice use, but that and literally everything else it does would have to be disabled because of the demo or would become inert the second the splatfest ends. Just sounds like more coding work that would amount to nothing. You're getting a free splatfest that you don't have to pay for and you want MORE? Eh, we'll all have it soon enough.
@Zoda_Fett ...It comes out in 7 days. You seriously can't wait that long? What would you even DO with the app over 4 hours? Poke at your friend list? Same goes for people wanting to shop for new weapons and gear, there's not enough time for anyone to enjoy their purchases. These complaints just get more and more ridiculous the closer to launch we get.
@Tarvaax Then I have to ask, if you know people are unwilling to respect the "truths" of others, as you put it, what makes you think your comments are going to make any more difference? Cause you know they aren't, you're about as effective as anyone else here at changing people's minds.
@Tarvaax To be completely honest, comments like yours don't help in that regard, complaining about complainers tends to just muddy the waters further. Eh!

In 2018!
