Re: Wisdom Tree Wants To Inflict Noah's Ark On The World, Again

Zebetite

@Barbiegurl777 Just gonna throw in my two cents. I see people go on about demons and Satan in games and such. Do you realize that there's other religions besides Christianity, other cultures where such things aren't regarded as poorly?

And AJ81, what's the problem with praying to a goddess statue? It's a non-descript generic piece of worship, just pretend it's Jesus. It's easier for game companies to put in something like that. Heck, that's why we have so many "demons", it's easy shorthand developers use for antagonists. Creators have been swiping from mythology and folklore the world over since before all of us were born.

I get that Christianity is the biggest religion in America, but the world is vast and cultures are numerous and varied. If you're going to enjoy products like games from another culture, like Nintendo's and other Japanese developers of the last 30 years, expect influence from that culture. America's certainly no different in that regard. You're not the only show in town.

A lot of these comments strike me as intolerant of differing viewpoints, so I should probably just duck out here.

Re: Deals: Pick Up A Nintendo Switch On Amazon US Today

Zebetite

@maceng Well that particular bit I can answer, there's an odd feud between Amazon and Nintendo specifically relating to the sale of consoles, which is why it can be hard to get Nintendo hardware from Amazon. Amazon's not a good place to go for Nintendo's systems, sadly.

Re: Max Brass is Set to Bring Extra Shine to ARMS on 12th July

Zebetite

That's great and all, but that Splatoon Direct completely obliterated this game from my mind and the minds of many others that I've seen. Still, the spectator mode that presumably comes with Max Brass will get a lot of use from me, Smash's did, especially if they let you gamble. Gambling's enjoyable when there's zero stakes!

Re: Deals: Pick Up A Nintendo Switch On Amazon US Today

@Grandpa_Pixel America is a much, much larger market than Japan or the UK for the most part, so the same amount of stock basically vanishes here instantly. Add in greedier practices in this country, and yeah, stuff disappears and never comes back.

@Fred13 This is the internet, anyone can make any claim, your industry credentials are meaningless without proof that no sane person would post publicly. And frankly, with how very grumpy you're being on this matter, I'm not inclined to believe you.

Re: Video: Let's Run Through All the New Stuff We Learnt in the Splatoon 2 Direct

Zebetite

@Equinox I've been seeing this viewpoint all over, and I can't really comprehend it. 4 out of 7 specials guaranteed instant death if the enemy touched it. 2 provided straight-up invincibility. One was a wallhack. All of these new specials have potential for mayhem, but they are massively toned down, you gotta work for that mayhem and not just win a match by pressing in the stick at the right time.

Re: Review: Mighty Gunvolt Burst (Switch eShop)

Zebetite

@MegaVel91 I never had interest in the Gunvolt series to begin with, and including a character from that wretched game doesn't help it's case in my mind. It takes the game from a "maybe look at on sale" to "hell no" by association. If you think I hate it and that my viewpoint is ridiculous, I have an old phrase about assumptions and what they make you that I can share.

Re: Video: Nintendo Treehouse Discuss Splatoon 2 Invitational With Gridiron Star Jordan Kent

Zebetite

@DeltaPeng Right on. I agree with most of your points, and now I shall discuss them, which I love doing
The thing with the quick respawn/stealth jump combo is that whole teams will run that. It's been described as akin to fighting zombies, hah. Will it get nerfed? Maybe, but possibly not, because people doing that (me) have to sacrifice everything else to make splattage less of an issue. Suction bombs/ink mines can deter chain stealth jumps directly to the tower, sure, but a roller circling the tower is a target that's wasting ink on a gamble, and the result is largely the same if there's an ally only a few seconds away from the action.

For reference, 1 main and 9 subs of quick respawn removes 3.4 seconds from your respawn time. That is an eternity in this game. Using a recent match of mine as an example, I facetanked with the .52 gal in a tower control match and got a k/d of 18/18, while my allies had 0 to 2 deaths on account of my giving as good as I got. My QR ability stacking lopped a full 61 seconds of downtime from my match. Powerful stuff! And it'll continue to be powerful even if the ability's half as effective in the sequel.

Regardless, as you've pointed out, Splatoon is a game that rewards courage. It's advantageous for rollers and short-range fighters to set up ambushes, yes, but the most effective ambushes are done on the enemy's side of the map or in forward points that the enemy commonly uses. That requires being very proactive. Likewise, the most effective chargers I've seen aren't afraid to move on up to really press foes as the opportunity arises. I'm S+ (needless bragging yay) and I only ever see a player with zero splats if a battle was notably one-sided or they were REALLY hiding in the back. GO FORTH TO SPLAT AND GLORY, SQUID KIDS!

And you're right, I can only hope the netcode is better next time around, egh...

Re: Video: Nintendo Treehouse Discuss Splatoon 2 Invitational With Gridiron Star Jordan Kent

Zebetite

@yokokazuo Fair enough, I shall elaborate. A good push can often involve death. If a player grabs the rainmaker, rushes and gets a 30-50 point lead, then dies, they've still potentially won the game for their allies even if they never make any further headway. This is particularly devastating on short maps like Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall.

Likewise, Luna Blasters with the aforementioned Quick Respawn, particularly in Tower Control. Stealth jump to the tower (another delightful ability), splat as many opponents as you can, die in the retaliation, repeat. It's an effective enough tactic to have become controversial among high-level players, you know, the type that yell for things to be banned.

Also, the tactic of resetting the rainmaker to the center of the map by grabbing it and jumping into a pit or water.

I guess what my point is that senselessly being splatted is a liability, sure, but there's a great many game-winning tactics that involve getting taken out in the process.

Re: Project Rap Rabbit Needs To Raise Almost $5 Million For Any Chance Of A Switch Port

Zebetite

@JLPick No, no we are not "lucky" in this case or any other case when a developer is asking for money before they have anything to show.

Have we, both the consumers and the developers, learned nothing? The hubris on display is incredible given all the fiascos and mis-steps with games like this over the last few years.

I'm going to assume this will be another Mighty No. 9 and ignore it from here on out. After everything as of late a developer's reputation and previous works means nothing in regards to their latest creations in my mind.

Re: Preview: Ultra Street Fighter II On Switch Offers Nostalgia In Spades, But New Features Disappoint

Zebetite

Just a note, buying a game specifically to support a company is usually a foolish endeavor. It can make a difference if you're buying some small-time indie game with under six-digit sales, but for a big company like Capcom your "support" is a drop in the bucket that will never amount to anything.

If a game is popular enough to warrant further titles, your singular purchase will never have anything to do with that. Maybe don't purchase it for that reason.

Re: No, Axiom Verge Isn't Actually Confirmed for Nintendo Switch

Zebetite

@MegaVel91 Have you looked at Steam's new releases lately? Go on, I'll wait.

I have, for months now, and it is almost universally trash. Literally any yahoo can pay a hundred dollars and get their game on Steam, and thousands have. Or hell, look at the app store and google play store. It's kind of a fact that the more products are available, the less quality there is. Are you seriously okay with Nintendo's storefront approaching anything like the above? The Eshop has always had garbage titles but it's been a trickle compared to the flood these other storefronts have experienced, and that is not a bad thing.

Re: Gawk at 'Classic Sonic' Dashing Through Green Hill Zone in Sonic Forces

Zebetite

@Gingadreadman Haaaaaaaaah. Maybe half the Sonic and Shadow Stages, but your memory is deceiving you if you thought the rest of the characters didn't have garbage gameplay.

Anyway, blatant nostalgia pandering, then? Well, that'll definitely get a few sales. It's almost like they realize that their new ideas almost always fail miserably. No, Sega, stretchy werewolves and guns and making out with anime girls were GREAT ideas!

Meanwhile the actual solid ideas they had that could've worked with some polishing and fleshing out are tossed in the bin. Bah.
