@Entrr_username As stated elsewhere, she only found out about Capcom's actions recently, and these old games are still being sold. So what exactly do you gain from defending enormous corporations?
Considering video game companies have been stealing from other media since the industry got it's start, this isn't surprising. Just look at all the games back in the day that ripped off H.R. Giger and Blade Runner and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Kinda makes sense that this industry never stopped stealing, though Capcom and everyone else absolutely deserves to be sued for it.
Earth Defense Force World Brothers. It's big, loud, stupid, and a whole lot of straightforward fun without all the hoops many games make you jump through. Buy it.
Since this is a video game and not something actually important, you're entitled to your opinion. In my case, I played this game to completion and ABSOLUTELY HATED IT.
@cdmac Just for the record, presenting your credentials or experience doesn't help you in discussions on the internet. It just makes you look like a blowhard.
@nessisonett The funny thing is, according to hackers like OatmealDome Nintendo HAS improved their netcode... but only for future games, not existing titles. That makes PERFECT SENSE, does it not?
Also, agreed. I play weird PC indie games with friends that have better netcode than Nintendo's products.
I have mixed feelings about this. I loved Timesplitters, but it's been 16 years and even if it's some of the same developers, times change and so do people.
...Also considering the market these days there's a very real possibility this game will have microtransactions and loot crates and what have you, and I'd sooner get shot by Sergeant Cortez than buy into that.
I like how I made a comment about people raging about emulators and generally making fools of themselves over something they don't understand, then lo and behold, several such people show up and start making the exact arguments I described. Thank you for proving my point.
We always get people that rage that emulation is bad and hurts the industry and blah de blah, and then these same people tend to be silent when the industry screws over folks from the emulation community in the name of profit.
Corporations are not our friends and should be expected to follow the rules like anyone else.
iuli's statement is kinda strange, but they're not wrong in that achieving the same design via engraving or other methods would not be that hard, and certainly cost less than an entire console. Or rather, it's not that hard to find and pay someone to do that.
@ModdedInkling Ah yes, Novelty, something manufacturers have weaponized after they realized people will pay entirely too much for things they don't need.
@NEStalgia Sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. To ignore criminal or abusive behavior is to enable it. If we don't take note of unethical behavior by executives or celebrities and condemn it, they'll just keep getting away with it. Apathy is their best friend in that regard.
@NEStalgia The problem there is that he's surrounded by "detergent guys", so the end result is the same. There's also numerous allegations against Yves, but those aren't really appropriate for this website.
I mean, it's been long enough since the last one. Nintendo has a pretty good track record with their handling and/or delegation of DK, so I'm optimistic about any new title that comes along.
Fun fact: The top executives at many companies, including Ubisoft, come from other industries. They have no real experience with video games and are just following the money. They'd readily jump ship to a detergent company if that paid them more. Don't expect the leadership to have "making a fun game" to be one of their priorities.
Hopefully they'll pay attention to the presentation of their games, which is largely why Clubhouse Games did so well. Porting board games to video games is easy, that's been done countless times, but making the board game appeal and play well in a different medium is a challenge.
What a strange history this company has, looking over their list of work. That said, upon looking into it I found one of their earliest games is named "Love and Destroy", and what an amazing title for a game (or anything) that is.
@Richnj You are in the right here. Focusing on people like Michael gives a pass to the corporate executives that actually cause problems in the industry. Those are the people that should be receiving the (moderated and not friggin' criminal) ire of the community, not some random designer who probably gets paid barely more than I do for the soul-destroying labor that is working on modern games.
Nintendo fans are so dumb that Nintendo can announce a mini-direct, say exactly what's going to be in it, and people will still rage that the direct didn't have Smash/Metroid/whatever news. This behavior doesn't surprise me. It completely disgusts me, but it doesn't surprise me.
@RudeAnimat0r The emphasis in my statement is slightly. Very slightly. They've yet to introduce disgusting microtransaction schemes into their flagship games, and what games they have that do rely on such schemes are ones Nintendo can handwave as being the work of other companies (the mobile games, everything Pokemon). That said, all it'll take is a change in management for Nintendo to jump down that slippery slope, so yeah, SLIGHTLY better.
@Richnj You typed this. It's almost childishly optimistic (Steam totally didn't go the same route and devolved into a mess of a store) and what prompted my initial comment, so I'm rather confused about where people "stanning" companies comes from as this almost sounds like a bit of projection on your part. No corporation, in any market, is EVER the "good guys".
"I mean, if anything, Epic are the good guys, because they just want everyone to have access to more games, and because their plastic toys don't cry out for the toys their child owners don't have. Now that, that is some very consumer friendly business by Epic."
@Richnj @RudeAnimat0r It's honestly depressing to see people acting like corporations will ever act in their benefit without being forced. Corporations exist to make money. And as the video game industry has shown, video game corporations want ALL the money, every dollar that has ever existed if they can grab for it. Nintendo's an exception in that they're SLIGHTLY less greedy than the others, but they're still profit-driven at the end of the day.
The "dream" of a single platform where all games are available is impossible due to simple human greed. As we've seen with the Epic vs. Apple lawsuit and how media gets put on and taken off of streaming services constantly, if a corporation doesn't have 100% control of the platform and/or income they WILL inevitably think they can get more money elsewhere.
Allow me to remind you all that Epic is owned in part by Tencent, a Chinese corporation that actively works with the government over there to suppress their populace, look up "the great firewall" for one such example.
Epic is a sleazy company as it is, but their backers are up to genuinely sinister activity and that's enough for me to stay FAR away from them.
@YANDMAN Folks over on Steam have complaints as well, so the issue is hardly exclusive to this console, and that's not counting my other grievances about the game.
I've ranted before about how I hate that this game exists, from the start it felt like a greedy cash grab making a sequel to one of the greatest send offs a game series has ever received, and I honestly feel kind of vindicated in that regard hearing that this game is mediocre at best.
R-Type ended years ago, let it rest if this is the best you can do.
@Northwind There's a point to not being complacent about trivial giveaways - if people like you respond positively every time a corporation gives out something minor or common, they will do that more and more as the company realizes such trivial things is all they have to do in order to satisfy the playerbase.
If you enjoy such minor gifts, more power to you, but don't rail against people who aren't satisfied or recognize the negative trend this could work towards.
A fair review. I love this series, they offer experiences that aren't available anywhere else to this day, but I won't blame anyone for going in with a guide handy.
If you actually, genuinely care what anyone else does with their copy of a video game, you need to rethink your life. But then, that goes for a lot of subjects.
@Rika_Yoshitake You mean the reality you seem to be struggling with? Sure, whatever you say, have fun defending a corporation that doesn't care one bit about you
@Rika_Yoshitake Ah yes, referring to the success of a Japan-only franchise that they didn't even create, a franchise that was already beloved when they devoured Hudson Soft in 2012. That absolutely speaks well of Konami when the works with the licenses they originally created keep bombing. Good try.
It's modern Konami, so I'll wait for reviews. They've produced some absolutely atrocious games in the last few years so by default I don't have much faith in this game.
Outside of a handful of gems (and even those were ports of other people's work for the most part), for the last 40 years Kemco has been putting out crap like this. They've never been a notable company and never will be. Look up Lagoon if you want to see what turned me off of their games way back when, it's remarkably bad.
I bought a copy for this exact reason. The collection will never be printed again, so I shall hold onto it until I need some fast cash and then sell it for too much money.
Isn't this the same website that frequently posts lists about 3DS/Wii U/whatever games that could use a second chance? I get that you have multiple writers but maybe pick a tone and stick with it.
This game bugs me because of the real-world violence it's going to inspire. Anyone who hates spiders enough to kill them but sees killing any other animal as wrong is an enormous hypocrite.
The most notable thing about this game is that in Japan player 1 is Che Guevara and player 2 is Fidel Castro. Beyond that, it's just another top-down shooter.
My interest in this depends on whether they rebalance runewords or not. If they're still an unbelievable grind, hard pass. That ate enough of my life the first time around.
Microtransactions in Crash Team Racing, the abomination that is Warcraft III reforged, this company sure has a wonderful track record with remasters don't they? Let's see how they're going to cynically profit off of someone else's work this time.
"Does the option of cheaper and more better value deals like the battle pass at least excuse the higher cost options?"
That would be a no, as it all ties back into the same manipulative cash shop mechanics that mobile games have embraced wholly. The cheap options are actually more insidious as games of this ilk are designed to encourage players to make small purchases here and there without realizing exactly how much they're spending. No developer on earth puts a cash shop in a game and then doesn't try to get people to buy into it. You can get an entirely different game for the cost of one higher-end skin on Ninjala, something I will always find disgusting.
Ugh. Why does this exist? The very name is ludicrous, R-Type Final 2. R-Type Final was a great send-off to the series back in the day, I can see by the amount of overpriced merch they're offering with the game that this is motivated purely by greed. I'd say they should just make a brand new shooter if they want to make one so badly, but it wouldn't sell without the license.
Let the series rest! I'm a huge R-Type fan and always have been, but there's something to be said for letting something go when it's done.
I saw this on twitter ages ago via an artist I really respect, bought it on itch.io, and was thoroughly unimpressed. My thoughts match the review. Very pretty, and that's about it.
