I can't stand shooters that give your shots zero spread. I played this for a while on Steam and wound up hating it. Turns out that on the mobile version you can pay money to make your firing width larger than that of a postage stamp. Bah!
Mediocre games failed to get released when they were new, so some company is trying to do so now. I've played both of these, and they're nothing special.
The cynic in me thinks this company just happened to get the rights to these old junkers and decided to make a buck re-releasing them to a crowd that WILL buy "lost" and "obscure" games at inflated prices regardless of their quality.
I'm currently reading a screenshot Let's Play of this game, and well, I'm glad I'm not paying money to read this nonsense. Characters are weak and the game balance isn't there. And why do chapter-specific NPCs vital to the plot almost never have actual names? Who thought re-naming poison "sap" and yet having every enemy use attacks named "poison ____" was a good idea? Why are actually non-threatening, in appearance and gameplay, penguins a re-occurring enemy? I know they're going for the slime-style mascot but slimes can kill you, these can't.
I could go on for a while, but to me this is in the same camp as Golden Sun, RPGs that seem to be hot garbage to me that people adore anyway. I don't get it.
The first game is immensely forgettable. This will be the same, assuming it even gets out the door. Technically this is news and should be reported, but no one's going to care once this leaves the front page.
On one hand, I like the exploration this had, akin to the older top-down Zeldas. On the other hand, I absolutely loathed dealing with weapon durability and stamina.
If the next game is similar to this, I will probably skip it. Call me a heretic, but I never really liked any of the 3D Zeldas, Link Between Worlds being a technical exception.
@Menchi187 Boy, people will leap to the defense of literally any industry practice, huh? Defending software bloat isn't a wise idea. Big-name titles for other hardware average 50 gigs but can go as high as 130 (ohai Call of Duty Infinite Warfare). At this rate game size is going to outpace the availability of terabyte hard drives, and even if it doesn't data caps are a very real problem for many Americans. Hell, SneakyStyle here would be outright unable to download the aforementioned Call of Duty game! Is that nonsense really what you want? Moreover, why is something being smaller a bad thing to you in the first place?
@CrazedCavalier Judging by the response I got, no, they were pretty serious. I'd love to share some details about ad revenue and prove you wrong, but you're right, we don't have time to waste trying to convince people who already made up their minds.
Edit: Oh, and bang up job ignoring the question about the vile behavior people have shown over a review. I'm going to assume you were on board with that.
Either way, people take reviews entirely too seriously. The game is getting hammered for being dated in ways that modern platformers, like Mario and Ratchet and Clank and other titles have moved on from. Even so, if you were hyped for this, other people not liking it or liking it less shouldn't affect your own enjoyment. Ugh.
@CrazedCavalier So he's the patron saint of a website where he's frequently loathed? I wonder how that works out.
I love hearing that claim that he just wants attention, by the way. His money comes from Patreon and not pageviews, so it well and truly does not matter whether he gets attention or not. And yet he eternally has people claiming he's fishing for clicks and attention. If he's not getting paid, the motive for this is...? He's certainly not as cantankerous as his critics, or were you okay with the death threats and (pointless) DDOSing of his website that came from giving Breath of the Wild 7 out of 10?
@CrazedCavalier So he isn't a legitimate reviewer, and yet Steam is consulting him and TotalBiscuit regarding the future of their store. Hmmm. His caustic attitude can rile people, sure, but he does his homework when he makes his points, which is certainly more than you can say.
@Jeronan To me it sounded like you were saying that about the people here who are rightfully irritated by loading times of this caliber on a cartridge-based system in 2017.
And you kind of answered your own question. Why come to a fansite to troll? Because trolls do that.
@Jeronan I find it to be a good rule of a thumb to ignore anyone who refers to dissenting comments/reviews as "haters" or other, more insulting language. If you can't make your point without crapping on others, you're no better than them.
Cave Story was made in 2004. At the time, an indie adventure like this made by one guy was extremely charming. Then the indie explosion happened, quality control ceased to exist, the market's been flooded, and Nicalis has ported Cave Story SEVEN TIMES prior to this one for the Switch. What do people think is so special about this one game to have it ported so many times?
The charm is gone. Now it's just above-average in the sea of games by small-time developers. Let it die.
At the times listed, over the course of the game that's likely to be 1 to 2 hours of time lost just to loading. Sonic 2006, anyone? Yeah, not happening, my free time is meager as it is.
Does this well and truly matter? I'm not arguing the game's quality, it's undeniably great, but so many games come out to absolute acclaim and hype, and then people start showing their REAL feelings about it six months later. There's too many examples to count, but a recent one is Fallout 4 - praised to high heaven at release, panned months later.
Let's see what people say six months down the line, shall we? And I won't even comment on the relevance of scumbags like metacritic.
Konami also made Otomedius years ago, and let's not forget their "erotic violence" pachinko machines. People buy this stuff, and so they've always done it. Bleh.
Or just use quick balls to bypass the entire damn process and kill the mon if it resists.
I only tolerated SOS battles because of the above tactic. If this garbage mechanic appears in another Pokemon game, I'm skipping it. I loathe it that much.
I'm probably going to wind up buying it regardless, if not early than later, so I just want to know about the damn thing. Some actual concrete information will help me decide whether this is being bought this year.
A cube with two dots and two sticks. BOY IT MUST'VE TAKEN A LONG TIME TO DESIGN THAT AMIIBO!
Normally I'm onboard with amiibo, but charging a premium price as this no doubt will for the inclusion of a literal block of plastic irks me. This is not a character that needed the amiibo treatment.
They never did anything about the built-in motion blur, right? Incredibly tiny text combined with that meant that I am physically unable to play this, I was getting horrid migraines after 30 minutes. Hopefully they'll knock that crap off, or at least put in an option, in a future game.
Poor, poor Lucas. He's often the only amiibo left in ill-tended, unstocked amiibo sections of the chain stores here, and the price has been cut to nothing online. Cause going through all the drama in his game clearly wasn't enough!
The article confused me at first, because I associate "early access" with the wretched practice over at Steam.
And no, demos generally don't change my mind, because demos can be screwed up just like anything else. Reviews and raw gameplay footage are more informative.
@Drac_Mazoku Especially since they've added additional forms of grinding, the fairies and whatnot.
I'm actually waiting to see if there's a level cap increase or not before I purchase the game. I already did that nonsense on the Wii U, once is enough.
Given the shady activities of the guys who made this, I don't care if it's in different hands now, this is the video game equivalent of a conflict resource (as tasteless as that comparison admittedly is) and wouldn't be worth touching even if it were genuinely great.
I'm pretty sure none of us were alive when these events happened. It doesn't help anyone to be retroactively offended decades after the fact whenever a tragedy is brought up.
Considering this schmuck recently changed the release date on one of his older games to move it to the Steam front page and earn some extra cash, I wouldn't expect much if anything from this game and it's shady sack of a developer.

Re: Rainway App Promises 60fps Streaming Of PC Games To Consoles Like The Nintendo Switch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Meme Run got on the eshop. Doesn't guarantee it'll STAY there, especially if this turns out to be as shifty as I expect it to be.
Re: Rainway App Promises 60fps Streaming Of PC Games To Consoles Like The Nintendo Switch
Feh. It's free, huh? When a service has no cost, YOU are the product. Probably yet another group looking to gather user info to sell to marketers.
There have been services like this in the past that have bombed hardcore, I expect no different this time.
Re: Nintendo Unveils Starfish Mainstage Arena for Splatoon 2
The us Splatoon tumblr posted about this on April 3rd. You're close to 3 weeks late, Nintendo Life.
