Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Disney's Magical Quest 3 Starring Mickey And Donald (GBA)

Zaphod42

It’s nice occasionally having games that I’ve never seen before come up. It allows me to be way more objective.
Was originally gonna vote for the Japanese one. It is very aesthetically pleasing and I dig the green. But after giving each thorough inspection the NA cover has more depth. There are story references with Pete and the kidnapped ducklings. Also Donald’s got that lamp which is just full of possibilities.
Mickey’s face is …. unfortunate.
And that barrel Donald is wearing in the other covers just gets weirder the longer I look at it.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Just Got A New Character Update

I played through with Aurora on the Xbox version a while back and it was quite an enjoyable run. There is actually quite a bit of content for her as far as unlockables and upgrades. More interesting than most additional characters in these style games.

Sitting down for a run with the built in randomizer on full chaos options is still my favorite way to play though.

Re: Random: Here's Why Wolfenstein 3D On SNES Replaced Dogs With Rats

Zaphod42

I consider Wolfenstien 3D to be the game that turned me into a gamer. Walking up and down walls for hours pressing to space bar to find secrets prepared me for the 30 years of obnoxious grinding and obtuse puzzles I still crave toady.

I’ve played the SNES version a couple times over the years and it does feel a little off because of the censorship. It totally makes up for it though by having a really nice map system that I’ve never seen elsewhere and some additional weapons that mix up combat. Worth playing if you love original.

Re: Soapbox: Be Happy, This Is The True Golden Age Of Gaming

Zaphod42

If not not for the indie game development scene this would probably be the worst age of gaming yet. AAA development is a complete joke. Millions of dollars are being paid to remake and recycle the same ***** again and again. The unique ideas and IP that have grown from smaller roots have been the real stars of the last 10 years or so. Stardew Valley, Rocket League, early Minecraft, countless platformers with stellar mechanics, and so much more.

Re: Hardware Review: PowerA Fusion Pro - A Customisable Pro Controller Rival With A Steep Price

Zaphod42

As a big lover of the Xbox Elite controller I’ve been trying to find a good substitute for the Switch. this one is tempting but I generally prefer to play with only two paddles preheated it gets confusing. Having to option to remove them is a must.

On the topic of rumble I must say I’ve been getting very salty about it lately. I’ll never forget the first time I blew up Andross’ factory in Star Fox 64 and it felt like the controller would rip outta my hand. But nowadays it’s feels like every single action I. A game has some level of rumble associated with it. And it’s just too damn much in my opinion. It makes it less special. I have lost track of the number of times I’ve set a controller down to watch a cutscene and the damn thing just rumbles itself off a table. With the length of cutscenes in some of these games do they really expect me to hold on to the controller the whole time? If it adds so much to a video who don’t movies do it? Hold a little rumble stick that shakes every time John McClain goes pew pew pew. Sorry, rant over.

Re: Memory Pak: Looking Into The Light In Super Mario 64

Zaphod42

25 years later and the first time I looked up into the light is still seared into my memory. Any time I play Mario 64 these days I constantly get flashbacks of my first playthrough. Discovering the shortcut on the Ice Slide. Mastering the long jump for the second KtQ race. Learning that wall kicks will work. These are just a few of the moments that stick with me. I always consider SM64 as the game that really made me a gamer.

Re: Star Wars: Republic Commando Is Landing On Switch This April

Zaphod42

Im glad that they are putting this out but I really want them to port over Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith. I used to sneak out of bed at night to play that online back in the day. Doing so required wrapping a blanket around my external dial-up modem so I didn’t wake up my parents.

Re: Feature: Best Kirby Games Of All Time

Zaphod42

Kirby’s Adventure on NES was the game the unlocked my completionist habits. I remember putting in some serious time as a kid just to beat the final boss only to see a ~70% completion on the save final. Going back through those levels and finding the secret exits was a freaking blast and quite challenging too. No other Kirby game feels quite as magical to me as the that one.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #75 - Resident Evil: Deadly Silence

Zaphod42

The Japan cover passed the which would I rather have as a poster test. The other two are fine but I don’t see any reason to look at either of them more than once.
As mentioned RE was a household name among gamers at this point. I prefer that the Japanese cover looks like art and not clipart.

Re: Nintendo Issues Mass DMCA Takedown, 379 Fan-Made Games Forcibly Removed

Zaphod42

When Nintendo starts taking down Pokémon ROM hacks that’s we we need to start worrying. All that stuff usually lives in small ad-free forums and Nintendo leaves them well alone. Even when the content is of poor quality or very inappropriate. You also can’t just click to play em. You need a rom, a patch program, and an emulator or flash card. Nintendo aren’t losing any sells to those folk and they leave em alone.
I seem to remember a popular Pokémon PC game a few years ago that was a pre-patched ROM in an executable file. Quick google search and you where there. Too easy. I think it got taken down real quick.

Re: Random: A Real-Life Diamond Pickaxe Would Cost £5 Billion, Apparently

Zaphod42

Hold on a second. A PipBoy for $25 bucks!!! I’m not Fallout expert but that thing is like a smartwatch on steroids. It provides detailed specs about your physical condition and contents of your pockets as well as a built in targeting assist. And the ability to access bunkers of the wealthy*. All that in a self adjusting waterproof design that has more durability that any armor you happen to equip. I call shenanigans.
*lots of obvious exceptions

Re: Review: Grindstone - A Thrilling And Compelling Puzzle Adventure

Zaphod42

Loved this on the phone. Was pretty close to 100% completion when I gave up Apple Arcade. Any game that can scratch that Dungeon Raid itch is fine by me. I’d probably rate this higher if not for Dungeon Raid. Imagine this gameplay with a rogue-like twist featuring a variety of races and classes and dozens of spells, items and skills to unlock and upgrade along the way. One of the greatest loses on the mobile battlefield.
