Panic Bomber - Box Art Brawl

Hello folks, welcome to another edition of Box Art Brawl!

In last week's edition, we took a look at Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge for the Game Boy. We honestly thought this would be a closer fight, as both box art variants were pretty great, but what do we know? North America and Europe absolutely smashed it, roping in 74% of the overall vote. Well done!

This time, we're going to check out Panic Bomber for the Virtual Boy. Wait, what..? Yes, the Virtual Boy had games! Certainly a small handful of them, at least. We're going to be pitting North America against Japan this week, and that's it, because... well, the Virtual Boy didn't come out in Europe, so there you go.

The designs for the box arts are pretty different for Panic Bomber and given the unlikelihood that many people hold any nostalgia for this particular release, it'll be interesting to see how this one pans out... But enough chat, let's get on with it.

Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let's check out the box art designs themselves.

North America

There's a very light horror aesthetic with both box art variants for Panic Bomber, with each one featuring a castle in the background, a bat here and there, and characters based off classic horror creatures like mummies and werewolves. The North American design isn't quite as busy as Japan's, featuring just three characters and a single flying bat in the top left corner. It's also bordered at the top and bottom, but is nevertheless an eye-catching display overall.

Japan

Japan's design is, as mentioned above, busier in its composition, featuring a total of five characters with the viewpoint slightly further away, encompassing more of the background with it. There are no borders here either, which really allows the artwork itself to shine through. That said, the colourful logo in the bottom right might not be quite in keeping with the rest of the piece.
