Re: Nintendo Invests in New Lobbying Firm to Tackle Piracy of Intellectual Property

Zando

@RantingThespian This guy is right!

This can only lead to more censorship. Does anyone REALLY think IP laws in the US are too lax?? Other than MPAA and Nintendo I guess. Hate to see one of my favorite companies pulling a move like this. Maybe spend the money on bringing FS3D West. That's the only reason I have a Gateway, for a free app. That's how you could have prevented MY piracy!

Re: Review: Lode Runner (Wii U eShop / NES)

Zando

Also have childhood memories of Lode Runner, but for me it was the "Legend Returns" version. I think the creator has IT available online for free. It has traps and items, very cool. Of course, the enemy AI is beyond brain dead, but it's still great. The NES version is a lot harder!

Fun fact: There was a Lode Runner DS in Japan. Basically a straight remake of the NES version for some reason.

Re: Sony Pictures Is In Negotiations With Nintendo To Make A Super Mario Movie

Zando

An animated Mario movie could be awesome! I've always felt like the main Super Mario games don't have enough emphasis on story. Like, there's practically none. Peach gets kidnapped, you save Peach after going through dozens of levels. The end.

There are so many characters in the Mario world, with so much personality. A movie, done well, would be an awesome chance to show them off!

Re: 3DS System Update 9.3.0-21 Introduces a Shuffle Option for HOME Menu Themes

Zando

Bye, Ninjhax... Fun while it lasted I guess. (Nah, couldn't purchase a copy of Cubic Ninja before prices soared anyway.) Glad they at least added new features rather than pushing out an update just to kill Smealum's months of painstaking hard work.

Wonder how Sky3DS and Gateway fared from the latest "stability" attack. Time 2 check GBATemp.

Re: Sonic Boom is Doing Pretty Well!

Zando

That's a little bit early, they're trying to kill it. It's surprisingly decent, if not amazing. Go watch Gravity Falls if you're looking for an amazing cartoon!

Re: Nintendo Download: 4th December (North America)

Zando

Yeah, Lode Runner! I grew up on the PC/Mac version, The Legend Returns. (I know, clever name.) The enemies were far stupider for some reason, but it had a large variety of items and a level editor. One of my most nostalgic games.

Re: Review: Chat-A-Lot (3DS eShop)

Zando

The real issue here is the design and interface...it's not awful, but it's clearly for six-year-olds.

Six-year-olds whose parents who are aware of the eShop, and who have other six-year-old friends with 3DSes, who also bought the application...

Why do I feel like this won't really do well?

Re: Assets For Cancelled Nintendo DS Version Of Crash Tag Team Racing Emerge

Zando

Also, I'm doubtful that the given reason for the cancellation is true. With all the money they had sunk into the first 10 months of development, it would have been better to finish and release it--that way they could at least make SOME of the money back.

I suppose it's possible that Sierra decided that 1 more month of development + the cost of releasing the game would require more money than the game would make. Yikes.

Well, next year is Crash's 20th anniversary iirc. So it would be the perfect time for him to come back.

Bonus fun fact: One of my dad's coworkers worked on this game.

Re: Assets For Cancelled Nintendo DS Version Of Crash Tag Team Racing Emerge

Zando

Hey, Activision: Read the comments here, people want Crash!!

Glad this is getting some attention. I saw this on Crash Mania (great website) a couple weeks ago, thanks to whoever tipped off NL.

A new Crash game, even a racing game, would be amazing.

Check out the footage of the cancelled Crash Team Racing 2010 on Crash Mania, too.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Discusses Production of the Pikmin Short Movies in a Miiverse Interview

Zando

In the original Japanese interview, Flipnote Studio was discussed at some length, as Miyamoto used FS to create the earliest storyboards for the films. Miyamoto even encouraged everyone to download Flipnote Studio 3D. In the English version, they refer to the Flipnote storyboards as "doodles."

That's right, Nintendo censored this interview to hide Flipnote.

I'm getting pretty hopeless that FS3D will ever be released at this point.

Re: The 3DS Proves to Be a Popular Music Player in Japan

Zando

@Zekrom025 Dang, that is crazy!!

I actually used my DS as my primary mp3 player for quite a while. I used the Moonshell homebrew app. It did what I needed it to do. But you had to go through your Micro SD's folders to play the music. It didn't give you a menu to search by artist, album etc. You had to keep your folders organized.

Nevertheless you could shuffle all music within a folder and its subfolders, so really it did what I needed. Pretty neat app. There was also iPod DS, which emulated the click wheel interface, but I used that a lot less.

Re: NINJHAX Exploit Is All About Nintendo 3DS Homebrew And Not Piracy, Says Creator

Zando

This comment section ... full of ignorant folks. Allow me to enlighten you.

This does NOT open the gates to piracy. Those were opened YEARS ago by a certain 3DS Flashcart. Those who really want to pirate are already able to do so. (And it's often due to their INABILITY to play certain games, i.e. Japan-exclusives, or games unavailable in their country. Several people have Gateway in order to play Flipnote Studio 3D for example.)

Also, I'm of the opinion that emulators of old ROMs shouldn't be considered piracy. It's illegal now, technically, but why should Nintendo be able to perpetually profit from ancient games? Games over 15-20 years old should definitely be fair game. This is just an opinion, and it hasn't stopped me from buying a few games from the VC.

But aside from emulators (a light-gray area), this exploit isn't powerful enough to launch ROMs. And it probably will never be. Especially since the firmware will block this out! In fact, smealum has received a lot of hate from the people who do want to pirate. /v/ calls him a moralf*g. And after reading this article I'm tempted to agree.

tl;dr Buy a Gateway card to use Flipnote Studio 3D, because pirates do what Ninntendon't.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Exploit Set to be Launched on 22nd November

Zando

The comments here are always full of self-righteous people.
"Hacking is wrong and evil, so this news doesn't interest me because I don't support hacking!" Well, good for you? You're missing out on playing DVDs on your Wii, playing Project M, dumping your own DS carts onto one card, Moonshell media player for DS, DSCraft, Aperture Science DS, and countless other great homebrew.

Re: Free Sonic Boom 3DS Theme Now Available For Download In North America

Zando

Seriously, there are no reviews for either game. What the heck, SEGA?

The Wii U version looks pretty glitchy, if only because the glitches are getting shared around, but are they really that bad/common? We would know, if there were any reviews! But there are no reviews, so all anybody knows about is the glitches.

The 3DS version...meh. I played the demo. It seems like it could be kinda fun, but I'm definitely not interested in seeing more. Maybe a 5/10 game.

(Although it's definitely worse than Lost World 3DS, and NL gave that a 5 for some reason?? I'd say Lost World 3DS was at least a 7.)

Re: Pikmin Short Movies Available to Buy Now on Wii U and 3DS

Zando

This is one of the biggest disappointments of my life. Nintendo had the opportunity right here to promote the worldwide release of FS3D by releasing it alongside these short films. And they totally blew it. When they mentioned the Pikmin films, my ears perked up. When they mentioned Flipnote Studio, I just about clapped my hands in excitement. And then the worst moment of the Direct:

(right after showing the Flipnote storyboards)
Miyamoto: "Speaking of..."
Me: "Flipnote Flipnote Flipnote Flipnote Flipnote"
Miyamoto: "Pikmin, we are releasing a Pikmin 3 Demo!"
Me: "You've got to be kidding me."

But yeah, I purchased the short films. They were pretty cool. The storyboards make me question Miyamoto's animation skills.

Re: Polychromatic Extravaganza de Blob Will Be Making A Comeback Soon

Zando

I picked up de Blob 2 for cheap since I am a huge platformer fan. I played it only a few times, and was never impressed. The levels are huge, and I always reached the last checkpoint with nowhere enough time to finish the stage, so I would have to start clear back at the beginning. The controls were awkward, progression wasn't clear, and combat and gameplay were tediously repetitive. Pretty disappointing game actually.
