Back in 2005 Sierra released Crash Tag Team Racing on a variety of formats, including the Nintendo GameCube. The game was a sequel of sorts to the well-received PlayStation classic Crash Team Racing and its follow-up Crash Nitro Kart, and was also due to hit the Nintendo DS at the same time.
That port was being handled by the now-defunct Sensory Sweep Studios, and had apparently been in development for around 9 to 10 months when the plug was pulled, with completion only a couple of months away. The official reason for the cancellation was supposedly the impending launch of Mario Kart DS, with Sierra apparently doubtful that the zany bandicoot would sell in the face of such stuff competition.

Despite being almost finished, no screenshots for the DS version ever saw the light of day back in 2005. However, thanks to the efforts of a devoted Crash fan — and the fact that one of the character artists held onto some of his efforts — we can now see what this title might have looked like had it actually made it to retail.
As well as the selected shots we've posted below, you'll also find some track designs and character artwork here.

Such a pity. I would have undoubtedly enjoyed this, like I did with the Diddy Kong Racing remake.
I wish we could see some Crash games on the 3DS
Yikes, another cancelled Crash game. Will a new Crash game ever see the light of day?
@PLATINUM7 You do realize that this game had been cancelled way back in 2005 with more Crash games actually having been released after that?
Shame when the 3ds came out they didn't invest a little more to bump the resolution and release it as an early 3ds eshop title. Could have scratched the itch of people waiting for the 3ds Mario kart and been a nice early game for people to get. Add in 3d and online too and people would have really enjoyed it I bet
This sucks,I would have bought Crash Tag Team Racing DS instead of Mario Kart DS because I like Crash more than Mario.
Darn, I would've enjoyed this... I have Crash Team Racing (two copies!), Crash Tag Team Racing, and Crash Nitro Kart. I have 'em all!
@KeeperBvK yeah but they haven't been particularly good crash bandicoot games.
This will re-emerge as a 3DS project, right?
...
This looks quite good really.
Bting this to the 3ds

Hey, Activision: Read the comments here, people want Crash!!
Glad this is getting some attention. I saw this on Crash Mania (great website) a couple weeks ago, thanks to whoever tipped off NL.
A new Crash game, even a racing game, would be amazing.
Check out the footage of the cancelled Crash Team Racing 2010 on Crash Mania, too.
Also, I'm doubtful that the given reason for the cancellation is true. With all the money they had sunk into the first 10 months of development, it would have been better to finish and release it--that way they could at least make SOME of the money back.
I suppose it's possible that Sierra decided that 1 more month of development + the cost of releasing the game would require more money than the game would make. Yikes.
Well, next year is Crash's 20th anniversary iirc. So it would be the perfect time for him to come back.
Bonus fun fact: One of my dad's coworkers worked on this game.
@Sforzando The reasoning sounds pretty plausible to me. This is an industry where companies even cancel fully completed games.
idiots.
Publishers should be less afraid of competition. Look at Nitendo!
Releasing Kirby Air Ride, F-Zero GX, and Mario Kart Double Dash!! all during fall 2003!
...okay, that actually seamed dumb at the time, and it still does, looking back.
Whi was admittedly pretty stupid.
I feel really sad, yet intrigued...
It's always interesting to hear about cancelled games... But Crash has been dead since 2008 and hasn't had a great home console game for longer (though CoTT DS was fairly good). Fans keep finding resources related to cancelled games and believable hints toward new ones.
I lost hope of a new Crash game ages ago and as someone who grew up with Crash 3, his current state makes me upset. Same with Spyro, but at least the general public still know him somewhat (albiet, an incarnation that has no significant role in the latest games he appears).
@KeeperBvK
Yes but there fact that there's been so many cancelled Cradh games was my first point. The games released after this weren't very good either.
@Sforzando
Actually it's in 2016.
I remember playing Crash team racing at a friend. Fun game.
