Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is well established now, with the Wii U version just days away in North America; the portable iteration, meanwhile, has already had a few minor updates to adjust its balancing, in particular.
The latest such update, version 1.0.4, is now available to download. As confirmed previously this aims to "fix various problems to make the game more enjoyable to play", with the official update notes below.
- Game balance adjustments to some characters.
- Stability fixes and other minor adjustments.
The update is 859 blocks on our UK 3DS, and there are two key points to remember — you won't be able to play local matches with those using an older version, nor will you be able to play online without version 1.0.4. The update will also prompt the loss of replay data.
If you download this update and spot any noticeable adjustments let us know.

Welp, time to go record my favorite replays!
On a somewhat related topic, my store put out some amiibos already but the register denied the purchase. Street date of the 21st of course. But I had a yoshi in my hand and was way to excited for a 40 year old with a plastic figurine. Ah well 4 more days.
Anyone got a list of the changes? As far as I know, Sheik and Rosalina got nerfed pretty badly
@shigulicious
On amiibo-related topic. I missed pre-ordering on Amazon Spain. Amiibos are priced only at 9.91€ (normally 15€) and most are now sold out. Only Peach, Pikachu and Diddy are available at the moment. Dayummm...
What's the reason why we're not able too have our old Replay's anymore?
@Robo-Knight The replays aren't stored as videos. When you watch one you are seeing the game "re-enact" it in real time by imitating the fighters' movements. As this update changes the way some characters act, they wouldn't react the same way in these re-enactments as they did originally, so the replay would effectively be broken.
Did they fix the glitch where a ban lasted over 100 years?
@NFreak007 Wow, I never knew that, thanks.
859 blocks? That's twice as big as any game I've downloaded! Didn't I just get done downloading v.1.0.3 at some 700 blocks too? How much is this game going to take?
1 block = 8 Megabytes, right? then 859 blocks are about 107 Megabytes.
The only thing I know of, is Rosalina's Luma takes longer to come back. I'll play around with Megam'n and Dedede to see if I can find any changes.
Suicide moves now make the user die first instead of the victim, though Ganondorf isn't affected by this.
Makes me wish Nintendo would release notes of who got changed since I have to go on forums just to see what is different.
Did Brawl have online patches? It's pretty cool to see a portable game get rebalanced and patched like this, I wasn't even sure it was technically possible.
They ruined toon Link.
.
@SanderEvers Oh, okay. Why don't they say that?
if the update is 107,375 MB how come my 8 GB SD card only holds 8192 MB?
@arcticblast702 SanderEvers is from the Netherlands. There, as well as in most other European countries, they use commas instead of decimal points, so the size is 107.375MB, or just over 107MB.
Am I the only one who has trouble locating the patch download in less than a couple of min every time? I feel like it should come up on the top row in the eshop along with the featured smash icon.
@Iggly WHEW! Thank goodness! Ganondorf's my favorite character for 9.0 Intensity runs partially because he can end most matches quickly with an off-stage Flame Choke!
@NFreak007 Thanks for clearing things up
@Jazzer94 Oh no, he's my main!! What did they do to him?
Unless it's a really extreme balance issue, I wish they'd just leave the characters alone.
And as before, THEY'D BETTER NOT TOUCH IKE!
@SanderEvers 107 GB xD you clearly don't undersatand maths!

R.I.P. replay of For Fun (with anyone) online match of me and another guy playing as Shulk saying "I'M REALLY FEELING IT!" at the exact same time right when the match was starting.
Download for me in the U.S. was only 600-some blocks. Must be all those extra U's you British have in words like colour or favour. You all really need to streamline.
Bowser-suicide with both players at one stock results in Bowser dying FIRST!
Pac-Man can no longer launch the hydrant in a single back-air!
Pikachu's Thunder now only fills one layer of Mr G&W's bucket!
Wario's crazy momentum is fixed! Yoshi's ledge-warping and Olimar's down-smash glitch are both fixed!
These are the changes I have personally noticed.
I don't even play online, unless they're fixing the D-pad availability for movement, I'm out. Too many blocks.
@Jazzer94 Yes!

If you want the list of changes
Ballaaaaaance!
Sakurai needs some lessons from Shoryuken, as it seems. While a good number of nerfs were justified, some of them were beyond nonsensical, and a few even punched characters down considerably (poor Greninja).
I played with someone locally who had 4 while I still have 3. Of course it won't work for online though.
Friday hurry up and come ~
@Jazzer94 @TeeJay I would like to know as well, I'm also maining him.
Looks like Olimar and Shulk got buffed. This is a good day.
My hopes for Olimar/Alph being buffed happened!
@DracioKoi @TeeJay Can't bomb cancel any more.
How do I find this patch?
when you commit bowser-ide (side-b and go off-screen) bowser dies first
@LordOfGamez Bowser should have never died second to begin with.
I'm happy with what the update changed for the most part. The fix of Bowsercide and Wario wectoring was much appreciated for instance (though both were tons of fun to play with, they were obviously not intended to happen ). Very sad though that Greninja took some decent hits, with Shadow Sneak no longer canceling aerial lag and full up smash animation. Lost two of my favorite toys to play with for one of my several mains now
Also, what the heck happened with Zero Suit Samus? People say she's got more buffs than nerfs when she needed nerfs probably the most of all? Why??
I wish N madea way to save replay data. Even if it took more space. I have a wonderful vid I made in for fun...
Does Shulk have a faster running speed now or is it just me?
Well they buffed up all my mains!!Nice!!But they nerfed mario, but they buffed up Ike take that @AugustusOxy!!
@Azooooz You mean the other way, don't you? Your conversion is right, but that would be 1 Megabyte = 8 blocks
Ugh, seriously? Down-throw with Bowser Jr. is already stupidly weak, why did they have to reduce the damage even further?
Update 1.0.5 coming soon. Removes all characters except Fox, removes all stages except for battlefield omega form, removes all items. For glory will be the only online mode. 20 new colors to choose when playing Fox.
Zelda and Paluntena Updates? I'll find out soon.
Add me to play on wii u

Well... Have to keep my eyes peeled. Let the training sessions begin.
@midnafanboy YES, i can tell too! His forward air attack is much faster and he just feels faster overall!
There's a really great page where people detailed some of the changes. It appears ZSS, Ike and Shulk got buffed, Greninja, Rosalina and WFT got nerfed, and Bowser's Bowsercide kills Bowser first now [no more cheap wins for Bowser users!], same with Kirby and another, though Ganon is unaffected for whatever reason.
They also.. buffed Little Mac's KO punch. KO's like 15% earlier now, supposedly.

love THIS UPDATE!; THEY DESTROYED ALL OF MY MAINS AND MADE THEM ALL WORTHLESS!
I cant win a single round now with anyone. I had 6 mains and they all JUST so happened to get ruined by this update. Darn you nintendo!
Watch the profanity please — TBD
nice seems like olimars pikmin travel further like in brawl thank you Nintendo!
@TheSmashBro69 You must be a bad player then.
Did anyone notice the new assist trophy?
Can someone tell me when amiiboupdate comes out on New 3ds because I wanna use a pikacu amiibo and im sad that I cant yet
